Show him Drake and Josh! They are a more modern show, and they referenced the candy scene in I Love Lucy, but instead of Candy it was Sushi. Any American growing up in the 90's or early 00's love that show!
Also, Drake in the show is actually a musician and wrote and performed the theme song to the show as well as many other shows for the Nickelodeon channel and is making his own music to this day
It’s because of Lucy’s refusal to do the show with out Desi that he was finally given the role despite the producers originally denying him the role. She had incredible instincts and was a comedic genius that completely changed Hollywood.
The reason we have streaming of shows is due in large part to Desi Arnaz, he came up with the idea to tape shows so they could be replayed in the future. No one thought that audiences would want to watch a show twice, until he showed them what an awesome idea it was. Also, the networks did not want to use Desi as the husband in the show because their marriage was considered an inter-racial one at the time, so Lucy and Desi used their own money and made a feature length movie entitled “The Long, Long Trailer to prove to the executives how very funny they would be together and that American audiences would love he two of them together. It worked and they became one of the most powerful couples in Hollywood. Love you too and I’m so glad you’re living your American dream together.
Yes! I was about to come here and say you need to show him Desi Arnaz/Ricky Ricardo telling Caperucita Roja to Little Ricky!!! I nearly came out of my chair laughing the first time I saw that!!! And show us his reaction! 😂 And show him the tango dance scene with the eggs!
Show Yoel the many episodes where Ricky gets so mad with Lucy for all of her shenanigans and he melts down and breaks into yelling at her in Spanish. Lucy is so funny as she hands him stuff to break and and tries to calm him down.
My uncle is Keith Thibodeaux, who played Little Ricky from age 2 going forward. If you ever see a little boy speaking or playing the drums, that’s my uncle! He wrote a book called Life After Lucy and he and my aunt run a Christian ballet studio in Jackson, Mississippi called Ballet Magnificat! They just opened a satellite school in Curitiba, Brazil! I love your content! Keep it up guys!!
Wow, that’s cool! Back in the 1980s, I saw your uncle perform with David and the Giants at my church. I was surprised and excited to learn “Little Ricky” became a drummer with a Christian rock band.
Its amazing that Cuba has forgotten "I Love Lucy." I remember seeing it as a child in Havana in the 50's. Not only was it shown in Cuba but the episodes were dubbed in Spanish.
Desi was a pioneer in television who invented the way to shoot sitcom TV and he was a major television producer who create Desilu Productions which made Lucy very very rich when she sold it to Paramount. Desilu created some of the greatest shows on TV for years and some are still being shown regularly to this day. Desi was a brilliant businessman and creator.
I think they were the first tv comedy to shoot in front of a live audience in LA. Lucy's mom attended every filming. Her distinctive voice & laugh can be heard on the show.
Desi made the condition that they would own the reruns. He eventually sold them to CBS for what would be something like $ 70 million today. Then he used the money to buy RKO studios which was a huge amount of property.
Lucy was a dancer before acting. She was even in a Three Stooges short in the 30s. Desi introduced the Conga Line dance to the US back in the 30s. TV execs originally didn't want Desi for the show because he was Latino. They wanted to cast an American actor. Lucy gave them an ultimatum that if he wasn't her husband in the show then she wouldn't do it. Lucy was a savvy business woman.
@@YoelAndMari They were moving the radio show “My Favorite Husband” staring Lucy over to TV and the TV producers didn’t think viewers would believe a marriage between a “red-headed” American to a Cuban band leader. But like others have said, Lucy insisted. They toured the country doing skits to promote it too. One skit was when Lucy acts like a seal which in in the show. Many of the first year episodes of I Love Lucy were actually episodes of My Favorite Husband.
They didn't want Ricky because they knew they couldn't control the show with him onboard. If they had controlled the show, with their aversion to taking chances, television would still be black and white!
But she couldn’t sing…. Tone deaf. That’s why she spoke that song, instead. Even after professional coaching so she could perform on Broadway, she couldn’t sing and worked hard to hit her notes.
Desi’s father was Santiago's youngest mayor and also served in the Cuban House of Representatives. His maternal grandfather was Alberto de Acha, an executive at rum producer Bacardi & Co.
There are interviews on UA-cam with Dezi and Lucy's daughter, Lucy Arnaz. I believe she said Dezi's family had to flee Cuba leaving everything behind. Dezi performed to help pay bills. He was the onewho came up with the Conga line. Dezi also created the idea of "reruns" to give Lucy some time for maternity leave. Also, Lucille Ball is the reason Star Trek became a T.V. series. The pilot bombed, but she had a feeling about the show and gave them the break they needed. Otherwise, no Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy (Bones), Lt. Ohura, Scotty, etc. would ever have been.
Also was responsible for the TV series Mission Impossible in the 1960s. Give Lucille Ball credit for Barbara Bain being the sexy woman in that series. She was perfect in that team.
Funny enough, I am a redhead in a mixed race relationship with a Latino man. My family was always openly against interracial relationships. But I grew up watching I Love Lucy re-runs. I’ve seen every episode multiple times. The couple’s cultural differences were sometimes poked fun at, but it never felt in bad taste. They were portrayed as a glamorous, loving family. Lucy and Ricky openly challenged racism in the 50s, and for me in the 90s and early 2000s. They were an example for me to think differently from the people around me. Even today mixed race and mixed cultural relationships are not well-portrayed in media and sadly racism still exists. But Lucy and Desi really made their mark and revolutionized TV and representation in so many ways. They gave me faith that my partner and I would find acceptance, and we did! Forever grateful to them.
My ex was a red head...were great together, but her family didn't approve of the relationship and always used I love Lucy as an example of how bad Latinos were 🥺. She broke up with me, years went by and I got married...she stuck to dating white dudes but eventually married a Latino, wasn't meant to be I guess
@@714RockStarJohnny04 I’m sorry to hear that. Thank you for sharing. It was hard to change minds and cut out family who couldn’t be accepting. Some people are just hateful and won’t change. In my experience they choose ignorance. I am grateful we managed. His culture is part of what I love about him.
I hope he learns about Desi... the entire concept of a "3 camera comedy" was his idea - filming the show from multiple angles, editing it together then putting it out, rather than live shows. When Lucy was pregnant and giving birth and needed some time off, he decided they could show some old episodes in its place... he invented the rerun. Lucy was the "face" of the operation, but he was the brains (though she made some smart decisions in helping make "Star Trek" and "Mission: Impossible" through their studio later) who truly invented how the last 60 years of television is made... to the point no one really wonders why we do it like this, just that it works so well, it is natural. But it wasn't until he made it happen. (PS - one of my favorite trivia bits is that Lucy was the star who got the show made... but he made himself a title character, as he is the "I" in "I Love Lucy")
@@olivegreenpants7153 She did, and overrode other execs who didn't want to do it. At that point, she and Desi had split, and she ran the company at that point. If you get into it, they still loved each other, IMHO, but couldn't live together. But if you watch a show like "The Big Bang Theory", which was a "standard" sitcom in production, most aspects came from Desi. I recommend Jess Oppenheimer's memoirs for a good behind the scenes of the show. But Desi, a Cuban immigrant in the 50s America where everyone on TV was white, did amazing things behind the scenes.
One of the greatest American TV shows in history! I remember my mom and dad getting up and dancing when Ricky Ricardo would sing! Lucy and Desi also had a son, who proved to be quite a fantastic drummer!
Desi and Lucy started their own studio named DesiLu Studios. They were the ultimate Hollywood power couple. So many movie stars of the day would cameo on I Love Lucy. Usually as themselves working on a project with "Ricky". Then he would always be afraid to introduce them to Lucy because he knew how crazy she would act. But in real life - they were a very powerful couple and very smart. Honesty, I'm not that old and Desi and I Love Lucy made me want to learn about Cuba. I'd love to see that freedom and joy of life return to that beautiful island.
Thank oyu so much tony! yes they indeed were and its so sad that hiistory of aa great man from our beautiful island is practically erased to those on the island.
Also Desi Lu studios was at the forefront of bringing on up and coming actors and actresses. I followed a one month special on Sirius XM of replays of the Lucy Radio Talk show in what they now call the first podcast in Hollywood. She was instrumental in interviewing the stars of those days, this was before Johnny Carson etc on the late tv formats
I grew up watching I Love Lucy...in the 1970s it wasnt easy being a refugee from Cuba. This was one of the things thst made me feel like i belonged in this country. Honeyyyyy, Im home. Thank you guys, me rei de nuevo como una loca mirando a Lucy y Ethel comerse los bombones.
When this show was on the air, many Americans used to spend weekends in Havana and go to hotspots like the Copacabana Club and dance away the nights to that kind of music... It's a real look back to before the revolution
My aunts went to the Tropicana once a month. My late father went there on dates in the 1940s. My aunt Ada had the best Cuban instrumental music I ever heard, titled Asi Bailamos en Cuba. Cica 1958.
Lucy was a student of comedy and learned from the greatest of her time. The "Candy assembly line" is a bow to a scene from "Modern Times" by her friend, Charlie Chaplin.
Desi Arnaz really did come to the US as a band leader and was a huge sensation among the nightclub scene of the 30’s and 40’s. He’s credited with introducing The Conga Line as a dance to American audiences and you still see people in movies and at celebrations forming Conga Lines to this day. His cousin was the movie and later TV actor Caesar Romero, who originated the role of The Joker on the Batman TV series in the 60’s
Mari don't forget to explain to Yoel how meager Ricky's beginnings were and how successful Desilu Productions became. Everybody focuses on Lucille Ball, but Desi was a major force behind the scenes.
I wish y'all could have gotten Ricky when he was angry and going on one of his rants in Spanish to tell us what he was saying, or if it was just nonsense, lol.
Desi Arnaz may be known more for I Love Lucy, but when you actually look at his history, the man is an icon. He had two successful orchestras (one before World War II and one after), appeared in several movies (one of which is where he meet and fell in love with Lucille Ball), and was the executive producer of several TV shows. Hell, he even found away for an audience to be on a sound stage while filming in order to keep the 'filmed before a live studio' audience vibe for I Love Lucy when people said it couldn't be done.
I love Lucy is still a favorite to today! The opening music is so nostalgic to me. It reminds me of my childhood in the 70s.. also Desi Arnaz was considered a heartthrob with my mom‘s generation. 😍😍😍
My late father was from Guatemala and he was so handsome too. When he came to the USA to go to college, he was asked if he was Desi Arnaz. I thought he was much more handsome. He had an uncle who emigrated to Cuba and the family never heard from him again. I have tried to find him in my genealogy search. I hope to travel to Cuba one day!
Believe me, Yoel, "ough" words have been giving English speakers headaches for generations. I can only imagine what it does to people trying to learn the language!
@@YoelAndMari It all comes from English being a blend of so many languages, and somehow making ALL the language rules work at once. Short answer, there are times it just doesn't work.
I have heard several immigrants say that the English language is the hardest language to learn because of all the different rules and pronunciation of words
When my Puerto Rican grandfather started dating my German grandmother he lied to her family and said he was Italian. His secret was exposed when he watched I Love Lucy with her family and laughed at a joke in Spanish lol
You are both adorable! Lucy and Desi were beloved in America, and continue to be today. My wish is for you both to watch all the episodes and films they made. Best Wishes from Ohio USA
This was one of the best videos! Yoel's English has also improved so much. He should be proud of his accomplishment. English is not a very friendly language to learn. But the I Love Lucy show not only had a Latino Cuban it also had the first real life pregnancy! That was unheard-of at the time. In most TV shows of the time, married couples always showed twin beds, never ever one big bed...😆 🤣 Yoel, your expressions are priceless when you were watching the show.
My parents were from Sonora Mexico. My Dad came with his family in the mid 50s then my Dad and Mom met in Hermosillo and got married and came back to California. My Mom did not speak english so to learn english she watched I Love Lucy as i did when i was ypunger. ILL will always hold a special place in my heart. Gracias amigos por los recuerdos ❤
Desi Arnaz was a bandleader before he was on TV. He made his first recordings in 1939. Both he and Lucy were in movies before they were on TV. Desi and Lucy were great behind the camera as well as in front of it. They created the three-camera set-up that's used in so many TV shows even today. They also understood the value of syndication rights. I Love Lucy was on TV in syndicated re-runs for years after the show was first aired, and since their own production company kept the rights to the show, they raked in the dollars for many years. They probably made more money from syndication than they did from the show's original run.
It's also important to realize how big, how important Cubans were in New York City - Desi Arnaz wasn't a big star, but his club performances entertained so many Hollywood stars when they were in NYC. I love that closing bit, too - "Lucy! I'm home!" has been a standard call-out for decades.
You need to show Yoel all the episodes of “I Love Lucy.” Check out movies that Lucy and Desi were in. Lucy was gorgeous when she was young. They were funny in “The Long, Long Trailer” as a newlywed couple.
"The Long, Long Trailer" is one of my all-time favorite comedy movies. It was hilarious when it came out and is hilarious today. (If you want a couple of recommendations for movies with a similar vibe, though different stars, check out "Bringing Up Baby" starring Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn and either "It Happened One Night" or "Arsenic and Old Lace" which are both directed by Frank Capra -- who went on to direct the holiday classic "It's a Wonderful Life").
My Cuban family loved that show. Especially since Lucy was such a Master at physical comedy. And my family's English was not the so great. You definitely have to show him episodes where he gets mad and starts yelling in Spanish it's the funniest thing ever on television. I just rewatched a bunch of episodes recently and it's pure comedy gold definitely one of the best shows ever
Desi contractually secured the rights to film footage of all episodes; eventually, Desi and Lucy built Desilu Studios from the money they earned from syndication.
@@YoelAndMari Yes they were, especially back then when it was common to just chuck the tapes out the trash or record over them, if anyone recorded anything at all. They saw the writing on the wall, they knew some day people would want to rewarch or catch up to a show. Nowadays we take for granted so many concepts they grasps with both hands.
In order to fit in with 1950s social customs, Lucy always had to act absent--minded and ridiculous as part of the tv script and Desi had to be the smart one and the dominant man in the marriage. In real life off stage, Lucy was much more intelligent and business savvy. She did ninety nine percent of the business negotiations for Desilu studio but she had to pretend that Desi did most of the business negotiations just because he was a man.
Lucy didn't act absent-minded and ridiculous because of requirements of 1950's social customs. She was the comedienne and Desi was the straight man. She was the comic talent. Silly and ridiculous is what her kind of comedians do. In the Honeymooners, a situation comedy of the same vintage, it was the men who were the silly ones and the women who were sensible.
@sydneykendall7125 I agree. She sure wasn’t a “wallflower”. I never cared for “The Honeymooners”, found the opening song depressing and thought the character Mrs. Cramden to be much too syndicalism. 🤷🏽♀️
My Uncle came from Cuba many many years ago and married into my family. I was around 13 when he came here I am now 48 so he has been here for a long time. Spending time with him and my aunt down in Hollywood FL near Miramar he would take me to small bodegas and introduced me to Cuban Cuisine that is out of this world. He became a natural citizen 20 years ago and I still love every chance I can to see him and talk with him. The Cuban Culture truly is beautiful and I pray someday all Cubans can enjoy the life he has and you are now having. God Bless
This was adorable! Desi Arnaz has an incredible history - his family was actually a part of the government - they were very wealthy and had to flee the country when the government fell. They also were the family that owned and operated Bacardi rum! He came to America and played the bongos to help his family. He’s the reason the conga became such a hit dance here! And then he went on to dominate the television networks with Desilu Productions. You should definitely check out more of I Love Lucy - they’re such a riot together and it never stops amazing me that they were the first “interracial” marriage on tv. He actually reminds me SO much of my grandfather - a Sicilian man, but something in the essence of them was the same. LOVED this video so much!
Also Steven Bauer ( who changed his name from Ernesto Echevarría Samson/ Rocky Echevarria) the actor who played Joe Pena on Que Pasa USA also played the Cuban sidekick to Tony Montana in the movie Scarface.
Does Yoel know anything about StarWars? If not, his reaction to that would be fun to see! If you need the original 1977 release, I would be happy to share it!
Please react to more I love Lucy!. Being half Dominican when yoel said the dancing "it's in our blood" it gave me chills because it's true. This show was so big for Latin culture period and it's heartbreaking that Cubans don't know about Desi or the show. He was a culture ICON in Hollywood..him and her were considered Hollywood royalty. I'm so happy yoel got to see and liked it. Btw..looks like you had a little bit of a flashback Mari 😂😂😂
HAHAHA i did! I remember watching as a 10-11 year old with nothing to do in my abuelos house. But maybe we will do more because we left out a lot of scenes (the video would've been too long!)
@@YoelAndMari lol I know exactly what you mean. My mother and one of my big sisters LOVE I love Lucy to this day! I'd love if you out more of these reactions of I love Lucy. Another idea is to have yoel react to American shows to fill in space between him seeing new places! I'm curious if he's ever seen Scarface? You can do about a 25-30 min video split up into scenes to get his reactions during the movie!
In the I Love Lucy show, nobody except Lucy was allowed to tease him about his accent. She was a true comedian but respected Desi very much and didn’t want him to just be a joke. What a wonderful show.
@@YoelAndMari I read that in one episode, I think it was Cuban Pete, when Ricky was translating between Lucy and his Spanish speaking Cuban friends, that he translated the Spanish wrong. But I could never find out what was wrong.
Desi Arnaz was an icon and a treasure to America. I'm so glad you were finally able to show Yoel what a huge ground-breaker and invaluable talent he was. He was also a very smart and savvy producer and businessman - something that is often overlooked amongst his abilities. Is Yoel aware of Celiz Cruz? She was another icon and treasure who came to America and made us all fall in love with her. Also Gloria and Emilio Estefan who are legends in their own time. We have so many famous Cubans who are a part of our pop culture and fabric of the country who have broken down doors for others who have followed in their paths. Yoel may be happy to know about all of them. I adore your channel! ❤️️
Watching this show at our house was like a party. You could walk down streets in our neighborhood and hear the laughter because everyone was watching this great comedic team. Then, for years, we watched the re-runs. I know them by heart.
I'm 34 and Lucy was one of my fav shows as a child. I haven't watched it in years and watching this brought back such great memories. I laughed the way I did as a child. Truly a timeless show
Great video! I loved this idea. And Desi Arnaz - what an icon and a legend. He also changed the pay structure for producers and actors - changed not only show formats, but how deals are structured and paid. He shook things up quite a bit in Hollywood, that’s for sure. He owned his own content. The studios did not want too many individual moguls like him around. This was an awesome video guys. 🙂
This made me cry happy tears. Yoel's genuine excitement was so fun to watch. I kept shouting "WHAT?" Desi Arnaz is the most legendary Cuban! Yoel and Mari, I hope this isn't a silly question - do they know about about Emilio and Gloria Estefan? We have so many legendary Cuban American entertainers. I think that Yoel and Mari should be the next Desi and Lucy! :)
@@YoelAndMari Desi was a genius when it came to television too. All sitcoms to this day are shot on a stage in front of an audience with a three camera setup he invented, he had a practical approach that was some of the best business judgement ever.
@@xyzcomp08 If I may say, and I may be wrong but Desi was never given any awards, honors for his accomplishments, at least I never saw any. So sad because Lucy did and she deserved it. But, I think he too should have been given the same. Yes, they were to great “Geniuses”!
May I suggest the book "The Old Man and the Sea" by one of the most famous American novelists in history? Ernest Hemingway wrote some of the biggest classics in American literature, lived in Key West, Fla (his home is now a tourist attraction). He loved Cuba and visited there a lot, pre-Revolution. His final novel "The Old Man and the Sea" was written in 1951 and is a short story (thin book, quick read) about an old Cuban fisherman and his epic battle with a large fish. The book won a Pulitzer for fiction and Nobel Prize for Literature. You'll love it!
Mari at the very end of the video looks like she's thinking, "I've created a monster". Lol. That's an expression Yoel, for someone that loves something the very first time & continues to do the same thing over & over. 😉😊
Lucy began her show business career dancing in a chorus line before she was "discovered" and put in films. Yoel's English is coming along nicely. Shout out to Yoel!😁
My family grew up on "I Love Lucy" and when there were marathons of it during the holidays we would sit around the tele with tons of food and watch it for hours! Did not matter if we had seen the episodes a million times we still laughed at every moment! They were a iconic couple and I was so sad to find out later how unhappy their marriage became in the end. But they changed television history and their studio gave us some of the most iconic TV shows like Star Trek, Mission Impossible, and The Untouchables to name a few... So happy that you introduced Yoel to them! Hope you have some fun evenings kicking back at home with Desi and Lucy sharing a good laugh!
Desi Arnaz started his band straight out of high school in Florida in the mid 30's. He and his band, actually referred to as an "orchestra", found immediate success in Florida. Being quickly discovered by some big stars, he went to New York and became big time successful, several years before meeting the already famous Lucy in 1940. They were a fantastic team.
Lucy and Desi also owned their own television studio. First one owned by a woman. She was also the first woman to be visibly pregnant in real life on a tv show. They broke a lot of barriers. They always loved each other but his alcoholism and cheating eventually lead to their divorce. We own all of the I Love Lucy shows and it is still one of my favorite shows.
YAAAAY! This is one of my favorite shows, EVER! So glad you liked it. I'm so shocked that Cubans have no idea about it. I would have thought it would have been insanely popular over there, so it's very eye opening learning more about Cuba from you two. You should do this again with a part 2, and show more clips, especially the ones where Lucy and Ricky are fighting and Ricky starts yelling in spanish LOL.
What a sweet guy, my heart breaks thinking about the direction our country is heading in; I pray we change course so this young man will get to live out all of his days in freedom.
Show him some of the Honeymooners episodes with Jackie Gleason. I'd recommend the "Captain Video" episode and the "$64,000 Dollar Question" episode. Maybe the one where Ralph fed his boss dog food too.
Vitameatavegemin was based on geritol, a popular "tonic" in the 40s and 50s. My grandmother took it every day. It also had a HUGE amount of alcohol in it.
I was hoping to see, and perhaps you can do this again sometime, of Lucy making Desi so frustrated that he breaks into rapid fire Spanish. I never knew what he was saying but I can certainly imagine what he was saying.
Loved seeing his reaction. Shocking that no one in Cuba know Desi Arnaz. Have you ever watched the UA-cam comedy videos from Jenny Lorenzo? She plays multiple Cuban characters. Would love to see a reaction video of any of her videos.

The choice of cast, production methods, scripts and technical staff is almost supernatural. God's gift of entertainment to us all. I Love Lucy is miraculous!!!!
Lucille was a perfectionist, and would rehearse a scene several times and fine tuning it as she went. Her show without Desi "The Lucy Show" was also very popular. Desi was an innovator. Desi came up with the 3 camera studio system that is still used today. He was also an avid womanizer, which eventually led to their break up. Wait, that is every episode.
Oh yes! He’ll love them!!
I love in one episode she says, “how DARE you!!” And replies, “you speak Spanish?” And she goes, “no! But HOW DARE YOU!” Lmao
I would love to see more of these please, wonderful!
Very cool.

Did your uncle ever get to keep any of the show props or memorabilia?
This is so correct. We are proud he is Cuban but sadden Cubans today dont even know. who he is
Desilu Productions were the production company behind the original Star Trek
@@goobfilmcast4239 holy moly, no way!
I think they were the first tv comedy to shoot in front of a live audience in LA. Lucy's mom attended every filming. Her distinctive voice & laugh can be heard on the show.
@@1otterlover I love it when you can hear Desi laughing when he’s off screen watching Lucy perform! ❤️
Desi Arnaz really pioneered the modern day sitcom. They owned and produced this show themselves. He deserves so much more credit than he gets.
That’s so crazy to me!!!
@@peggyfeeney4393 Those producers really underestimated the American public, didn't they?
But she couldn’t sing…. Tone deaf. That’s why she spoke that song, instead. Even after professional coaching so she could perform on Broadway, she couldn’t sing and worked hard to hit her notes.
That was great. Lucille Ball is arguably the greatest comedienne in American history.
She is!
No Don Rickles was the put down champ lol
@@colleenstevens7651 Don Rickles isn't a comedienne, that's a term for a female comedian
Desi’s father was Santiago's youngest mayor and also served in the Cuban House of Representatives. His maternal grandfather was Alberto de Acha, an executive at rum producer Bacardi & Co.
Im learning now on the Johnny Carson show!
Never knew that that's very interesting
Learn something new everyday..thanks for the info. Nice.
We hope, as a couple, to have the attributes of this great couple. Geniuses!
Well it was Lucy that green lighted a little show called Star Trek.
Look for cuba TV before castro and you would find the why he was so creative
Awesome trivia! The original power couple.

@@YoelAndMari Lucy was one of the greatest comic performers of her generation. The DesiLu Studios were also responsible for the creation of Star Trek.
The "Candy assembly line" is a bow to a scene from "Modern Times" by her friend, Charlie Chaplin.
oh wow didnt know!
Inded, chaplin was tightening screws in an assembly line, very famius scene
That's an iconic episode. I crack up every time. I think a sitcom recently did an homage to that episode.
Mari... "got some splainin' to do!"
jejejeje
Mari don't forget to explain to Yoel how meager Ricky's beginnings were and how successful Desilu Productions became. Everybody focuses on Lucille Ball, but Desi was a major force behind the scenes.
Desi was the first to use multiple cameras in production, it’s still used today. He was way ahead of his time.
Desi was a genius. Such talent
I love Yoel using the iconic "honey im home" at the end lol
I wish y'all could have gotten Ricky when he was angry and going on one of his rants in Spanish to tell us what he was saying, or if it was just nonsense, lol.
LOL mabe we can do a part 2. OR a LIVE?
Lol, I thought the same thing.
@@YoelAndMari Yes please! Do a part two!
It was always real Spanish he spoke, NEVER nonsense
Part 2 , please!
right!? He was very handsome!
Same here, bring on the Brady Bunch and Gilligan's Island
I like when Yoel speaks Spanish. Don't ever lose it! Make sure your children and grandchildren are fluent!
Don't lose your Cuban accent either!
Believe me, Yoel, "ough" words have been giving English speakers headaches for generations. I can only imagine what it does to people trying to learn the language!
It doesnt make much sense!! Threw or Couf LOL
@@YoelAndMari It all comes from English being a blend of so many languages, and somehow making ALL the language rules work at once. Short answer, there are times it just doesn't work.
I have heard several immigrants say that the English language is the hardest language to learn because of all the different rules and pronunciation of words
"The tough coughs as he ploughs the dough." -Dr. Seuss
...and then there's the "ead"s and where "ed" and "eed" apply.
When my Puerto Rican grandfather started dating my German grandmother he lied to her family and said he was Italian. His secret was exposed when he watched I Love Lucy with her family and laughed at a joke in Spanish lol
Can’t imagine the look on their faces?

Fun Fact: In the early days of TV the word "Pregnant" could not be used. They had to say "In a family way" or some other such nonsense.
They were both excellent in comedy and business.
They were funny in “The Long, Long Trailer” as a newlywed couple.
we just watched it now!
Yeah it's amazing but it all holds up fine after all these years. Just basic comedy, universal human nature, but executed flawlessly.
The most funny part in the , Long, Long Trailer was when they went up the wrong road on the mountain.
She's very glamorous in 40s MGM movies. That was when she became a redhead because of Technicolor.
Geniuses!
And don't forget "macho" to add into the equation
Lucy didn't act absent-minded and ridiculous because of requirements of 1950's social customs. She was the comedienne and Desi was the straight man. She was the comic talent. Silly and ridiculous is what her kind of comedians do.
In the Honeymooners, a situation comedy of the same vintage, it was the men who were the silly ones and the women who were sensible.
@sydneykendall7125
I agree. She sure wasn’t a “wallflower”. I never cared for “The Honeymooners”, found the opening song depressing and thought the character Mrs. Cramden to be much too syndicalism. 🤷🏽♀️
Im surprised you didn't show any of the Ricky v Lucy arguments from the show, those were fun!

God Bless
This is so much fun watching Yoel see this for the first time. It was my grandmother's absolutely favorite show ever
He was laughing instantly. Grandma had good taste!
I grew up watching this show. It broke every rule imaginable. During its run in the 50s their audience was 60 million!
Lucy was the first pregnant woman seen on tv. Can you imagine how stupid we all were back then?!
Not only that. They helped bring Star Trek into being by providing the studios needed.

In the I Love Lucy show, nobody except Lucy was allowed to tease him about his accent. She was a true comedian but respected Desi very much and didn’t want him to just be a joke. What a wonderful show.

Need to show him Desi playing the Conga drums and singing Babalu!
jeje yes but they didnt have a copy of it on Paramount or here on UA-cam that wasa clear enough so you guys could see!

In Cuba we do know about Hemingway and his literature, story, etc .

Being quickly discovered by some big stars, he went to New York and became big time successful, several years before meeting the already famous Lucy in 1940. They were a fantastic team.

well, alcohol cures some things! lol
I was hoping to see, and perhaps you can do this again sometime, of Lucy making Desi so frustrated that he breaks into rapid fire Spanish. I never knew what he was saying but I can certainly imagine what he was saying.
I think he says something like "Look what this woman has done here!"
Loved seeing his reaction. Shocking that no one in Cuba know Desi Arnaz. Have you ever watched the UA-cam comedy videos from Jenny Lorenzo? She plays multiple Cuban characters. Would love to see a reaction video of any of her videos.
Yes we have, shes very funny! But TBH her jokes are very Cuban-American so Yoel doesn't understand half of them.
Hola Yoel and Mari! I enjoyed this reaction, please react to 'Que Pasa USA!' it was a bilingual show in the 70's that took place in Miami featuring a Cuban family, you can find episodes here on UA-cam, Ciao!
That will definitely be one of the next ones!! Both of us have never watched it.
@@YoelAndMari I know you will enjoy it, i recommend the episode 'We speak Spanish' its hilarious and anyone who has been brought up with parents and relatives who only speak Spanish will identify with this, thank you again for a great channel!
What always amazed me about the "I Love Lucy" episodes is how you could get such quality musical entertainment from Desi Arnaz and his orchestra, all packed into a half hour show. Brilliant!😊❤❤
Next time, please do Cuban reacts to Que pasa USA, the first bilingual sitcom in American television.
We both have never seen that!
@@YoelAndMari here's the episode list. ua-cam.com/play/PLzb5_rFM6aV47NB6QalvxzVfu67ZcA3ML.html
Some are Missing, sorry. I promise you these episodes are hilarious 😅😅😅😅😅, especially the citizenship episode, I highly recommend.
Yes! Thats a must!
Omg yes! I haven't thought about that show in decades! 👵
It's soo funny, gotta react to it
Please watch more I Love Lucy. I grew up with this show... I was born here but my parents were from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 and Nicaragua 🇳🇮! (Which makes me NicaBoricua!) Even though I'm not Cuban, I can't tell you how great it was to hear Ricky go off in Spanish and his accent...just like I heard at home. It made me feel like even though we came from different places...we belonged. I am so proud of Desi Arnaz and his contributions to television production. 📺 Many of the way programs are still made today were pioneered by Desi in the 1950s. I would love ❤ to have you guys over for some Ropa Vieja and an I Love Lucy marathon. I've seen that candy episode hundreds of times and it still makes me laugh...I loved watching your first time reaction to it.
The ending is hilarious- You two are entirely too adorable :)
💞
I have been watching these videos and between my smiles and tears I wish you all the happiness for your future. Thank you for your videos. The people of Cuba deserve their freedom from the oppression of the current government. So many years, so much lost.
I love how you honor the cubans who attempted freedom at the end of this show
All migrants.
May want to check out The Honeymooners from the same era. Loved your reaction!
Lucy telling Ricky that she's pregnant would be a good reaction
Part 2?
@@YoelAndMari And parts 3 & 4 & 5 or a really long special episode. Mine that DesiLu gold ya'll. Because Everyone Loves Lucy & we all love Yoel And Mari. I could spend hours watching Yoel eating new foods & watching I Love Lucy reruns. Lol. Mari is a genius.
One of my favorite scenes in the series.
I Love Lucy has been in syndication for over 60 years, and is still played on stations all over the world. NOTHING has lasted as long, or has been as popular.
I didn't know that I needed to see this this morning, and I have no idea how it got on my suggestions, but I'm so glad I did. I've got tears streaming down my face from laughing! this was great
You should do a whole episode of Lucy really understand the two of them
Yes! We did but the reactions would be too long!
@@YoelAndMari I think we your audience would surprise you
Those clips still crack me up every time. The "I Love Lucy" shows, no matter which one, will still make you laugh...they have stood the test of time!🤗
So true!
