Kap you keep presenting us finer and sexier vintage 80's and 90's dirtb bikes, just when I say wow that's the nicest dirt bike I have ever seen you keep showing us these GEMS!
That bike must be one of if not the most beautiful 500 2 strokes ever made, the next owner owner should consider themselves very fortunate to have, you never see these in the Uk, love the channel too👍
That's so cool about a year ago a restored one sold not far from me in New Zealand, was not quite as nice as this one though but still nice. Wish you guys could keep this one for the museum it's a true hens tooth.
Wow Christie did those graphics! (hope I got her name right) until you said that i thought they were the original graphics they look so perfect for that bike she must be so talented the wizard tuning, Christie’s graphics and all the other people in the workshop it’s like all the best in class in their respective fields all under one roof no wonder all your bikes look and sound so great 👌. All the best to all your extremely talented family stay safe and take care god bless.
Yes Yamaha screwed the pooch on the 490 it wasn't so much of the porting, it was the head squish that they messed up and never corrected but there is a service bulletin for it and many people have done it and it works great 🤘. With the 490 motor you jet it to run how it's supposed to it'll seize up if you jet it to survive it'll cough fart and sometimes blow the pipe off the cylinder. I fought my 86 for many years. That is one pristine wr500 I wouldn't expect anything less from you guys!
The head mod is pretty much mandatory, but porting helps overall. I went through my YZ490 (IT engine for the 5-speed) and put a pretty decent amount of money and work into it, but it was worth it. It runs like it is supposed to and doesnt vibrate thanks to a microbalanced rotating assembly. Leaving it stock makes race gas neccesary.
@@dr.hugog.hackenbush9443 yep I owned my 86 490 for 20 years. Definitely not a newbie. Been play'n with two strokes for 32 years. Nothing like a big bore two smoker 🤘
Had friend in Atlanta that got one of these after the factory rider was done with it. He went over it and replaced what needed and DAMN was it FAST !! All kinds of torque.
Just saw 2 of these today in immaculate condition. Nicer than this one. They both looked new. I asked the shop owner if either of them was a local bike and he said the shop sold 1 of them to the original owner back in '92. I almost had to question that because I knew all the guys that were riding in the area at that time and never saw one of these out and about. I would have been racing him, had I ever actually seen it in the area.
Another beautiful dream machine absolutely gorgeous fantastic condition a Yamaha WR500 is so rare like you said Ken I’ve never seen one a real beauty big-bore..❤️ 😍 👍🏻👍🏻
Owned a 92 in so Cal was 504 cc 40mm carb from kx500. Porting , squish 16-44 sprokets rode the shit out of it 10 plus years was second owner I did all the mods. Sold it guy bought it in Australia. Lots of great memories riding in Dez
To me, It is the perfect dirt bike. I wish that a company would build bikes like that, easy to fix, bullet proof. Plus, the bike is gorgeous! If I had the money, she'd be mine.
Even if I purchased it....... I would be afraid to ride it. Its just too rare and only getting rarer. I hate to say it........ but its riding days are probably over. I'm sure it will end up in a collection somewhere.
This isn't a works replica. The works bikes had the YZ250 non-Deltabox swing arm, which was lighter and had screw adjustment instead of snail washer adjusters. Also some of them were liquid-cooled. However this bike is in unbelievable condition The fact that these graphics are custom-made is very impressive. They look phenomenally authentic and period-correct. Very talented graphic designer you have.
I enjoy watching the videos. They provide a video quality look at the bike. I’m not a big fan of the new format and find myself trying to look around the inserted pictures. Can you post the video and then provide the pictures at the end? If I’m the odd man out, I guess I’ll suffer through the jumping back and forth, but I doubt I’m the only one who just wants to see a video. Post a link for the detailed photos and we will follow it. These bikes are amazing, thanks for posting.
My friends dad who is a preacher had one of these in pristine condition and someone stole it a couple years ago I felt so bad for him he rode that bike every weekend what a bummer 😮
Hey Ken and J.R.this is what I've been telling you both recently if any company started making two strokes again I'll betcha they couldn't keep them in there shop it Only Takes One is there anyone out there willng to go the extra mile hey Ken and junior stay safe God bless
Your stuff is really preme stuff. Your very informative ken. Is there a way you could do a restorable or rideable bike, weekly day for us on here maybe? "Project friday." We (loyal viewers) should get 1st chance to buy it now b4 eBay. Maybe a parts section? Maybe a inventory link. Some of your viewers can't afford these. I'm still dreaming at 57 and I enjoy this channel also but I'd like to buy a project bike. They'd be easier for you to find also. Ur gunna run out of these time capsules sooner or later. But don't change a thing on here. Your channel is killer.
Ok, Kap about dropped the bike after he got done with the test ride!🤣Now, that would’ve been interesting how to have handled that on the video after all the praise to the no dings on the frame rails! Lol
Back when men were men! Sometimes, myths and legends are true! Power of 2-strokes is legendary! Did you guys upgrade to the 5 speed gear box from the IT?
I beg your pardon, I remember these when they came out. They were air cooled some what unimpressive bikes because the engine was still air cooled when all other big bore competitors had gone water cooled and it had that weird gas tank that was shaped to look like radiator shrouds but it didn’t have a radiator…sorta like putting a fake hood scoop on a car but when you lifted the hood it didn’t go thru the hood. Graphics and colors that looked like they belonged on a pleasure boat and kinda aqua colored. Question I have to you in response to your comment were these only a 4 speed transmission, too? That would’ve explained further why they didn’t sell well bc the 91-92 WR 250 was water cooled and already a 6 speed!?
@@Wasatch_Sasquatch air scoops scoop air. regardless of water cooled or air cooled. they all need air to cool them. so its not like a fake hood scoop that doesnt go thru the hood like you think it is.

Thanks Big Mike! ML&R
Really... you just want to hang it on the wall in a frame.
Sacrilege to take it off road, I'd say.
That's definitely the holy grail of dirt bikes in my book. The WR 500 has always been at the top of my list.
Absolutely love this bike didn’t really know too much about them until recently but love the color scheme!
I just get so cozy when I’m laying back and watching these videos.
I agree, Yamaha would sell the hell out these if released in todays market...

Just the way it sits.... It does something special to my Moto soul.
I love watching for these videos to drop. Watch it on break and chat about it all day with the guys
Your not the only one, look forward to his videos daily!
I loved that color scheme on those bikes 👍✌️
Yamaha should bring it back for a LE version of their 2 strokes
You're an American treasure, Kap. Thanks for preserving that awesome building, and all these amazing bikes.
It is a beautiful survivor and it’s uniqueness makes it that much more desirable. It sounds crisp👍🏼
Ho avuto la yz 490 dell'85 , motore una bestia.💪👍
Freaking beautiful , nearly impossible to find those WR500s. 💯✌️
Not near impossible. He's has 2 in the last 6 months. Just gotta look harder for them.

Id say the RM500 is much more of a unicorn, especially the last year.
