Buying a Car Doesn't Have to Suck™
2024 shop: You got a scrape on your door, sure we can fix it no problem for $77,000.
Carvana will do a cheap repair job on it and then resell the truck and not disclose it was ever damaged
Exactly what I was thinking!
100% accurate. Trust me when I say. “I’ll be watching and will do an update video”
@ChevyDude
Dude you’ve got to stick with GM. I worked myself for 2 Chevy Dealers starting in 1969 as a parts salesman and the worked my way up to a parts manager. They put food on my family table for all those years. And you are talking about you are wanting a Chevrolet Franchise Dealership. How is that going to look on you if you go out and purchase anything other than a GM product. Just saying! B
@@ChevyDude You say one mph, if thats the case then stop 10 seconds in, geez you have ears right.
That’s why DONT ever buy pre-owned vehicle s. Always buy NEW!!! just coming off the transport!! I never a fan of buying used vehicles. Nevertheless some people just can’t swing for new so you take a chance I’m afraid lol. I wouldn’t buy that truck lol
The funny part about you not wanting bondo is that when they actually change the side panel, bondo is used at the weld points. And yes the shop is correct, once the blind spot and 360 camera is disconnected, to ensure they work properly, they need to be recalibrated
You must be a auto body guy.
@@Hellcat71782 Correct. I write up all the estimates and deal with insurance
@@NOLAItsNotOva I could tell lol
Five years ago, you were talking about how good the Chevy truck was with all their aluminum movable parts now this
I remember the commercial where they trashed ford for using aluminum on their bodies first. Talk about hypocrisy
As someone who worked in a body shop for three and a half years, body shops are required by law to recalibrate sensors on vehicles 2008 and newer. It's not a scam. It's the law.
Bro, that’s not “little itty bitty damage.” Lol
this guy sounds like a use car sales man
The black hog on the valve stem was perfect. Love it
When you get a mayor dent trying to avoid a minor ding.
lol I said the same thing. 😬
Minor ding will bug me forever every time I look at it, if I get a major dent it’s a good enough excuse to get rid of the whole car 😂
@@edgarh252 Not a car a this price tho, that be a mayor loss.
Apunds like he was trying to save pennies now just for him to cost him dollars later
It's basically a blue Bud Light beercan .....
As a bodyman myself, there is so much wrong with this video. The whole uniside will not be changed, just the cab corner. Some vehicles once torn down have to be reprogrammed and some just need the codes cleared. $100/hour?!?!?!?! Down here in Louisiana we are struggling to get from 60/hr to 65/hr. Sounds like shops are trying to ream you a new one if you know what I mean....
I was a collision shop estimator for 20 years. I have been retired for 6 years. The part is probably sold as a uniside but in any estimating software system sectioning times are given. Granted I have been out of it for 6 years, but $15,000 sounds extreme. I would be thinking more like $6-7,000.
@dave1956 I apologize I didn't add that. Yes it is still sold as an assembly but won't be installed that way. Yes it gives the time to change it which I don't remember the hours but I wanna say somewhere around 10 hours or so. If you change the whole side you'll have to remove the edges if the roof, back wall of the cab, and remove the front door and fender and hinges
This is the second time in a video he has claimed that one needs to replace a whole side of a car. He got me and us to comment so he made his UA-cam money.
@@robm3063 touché
"$100/hr!!!!" Tell me where. I'll move tomorrow! Lol. $60-65 is accurate for mid Atlantic states as well.
The more technology packed behind body panels and a minor hit takes place, the more expensive it is to fix. Which makes insurance more expensive on newer cars than older cars.
Makes you wonder if all that technology is worth it
Yes they do have to reprogram all the ads systems. When I bought my used 2021 Tacoma, the dealership I bought it from missed during the certified pre-owned inspection that the rear bumper was broken off on one side and I noticed it after the blind spot monitoring wasn’t working. Then they figured out that the bumper caps were the wrong one as well which is another reason why that wasn’t working. Luckily the dealership made it right and didn’t charge me the $8,000 dollars to fix the issues they missed.
He is correct on price I had an accident a year ago and hit a Trail Boss with my Ram 4x4 and the damage was in the same place and it was right at 15 grand in damage plus damage to my Ram. Been driving over 40 years and never had an accident well that was my 1st and I was at fault. Blinded by the early morning sun I did not see the guy. That is what Insurance is for in my case.
Get an Explorer ST and throw an intercooler and tune on it.
THIS
I have an SRT Jeep 475HP stock, I've got a Botla attack exhaust and an Afe intake and should be right around 500HP. It's a blast to drive. Good luck finding something fun to drive.
When Carvana brought my brothers Honda and I had Covid, they paid $16,000 for an 08 with like 30,000 miles on it. They walked around him and left.
Exactly why I love my old LLy Duramax!! Love watching your channel all the way from near the Portland Oregon area.
You did not say if Carvana actually paid 52k for the truck. Although 15k seems like a lot for that damage but I have always thought body shops really over price everything.
Carvana doesn't exactly change the price they are buying it for on the spot since the person picking it up shows up with a prefilled check for the amount.
@@kabloosh699no your wrong they inspect the car before they actually write the check and inspector comes with the tow truck driver
I’ve bought and now own 3 Toyotas in the last five years. I thought I found a brand to be loyal to, but my second, 2018 Tacoma with only 46k miles that I bought in 2021, now has a DTC that will cost $7k to repair. I do still $4k on the 3rd, so trading in the Tacoma for an even swap could be an option.
Bro gone get a Bolt to troll us.
Now I don’t feel so bad. Around the middle of May, I had a deer jump in front of my Ford Edge while I was going 80 mph right between the headlights. Needless to say, my car survived the impact but my insurance totaled it
Man, you need to get in contact with
V tune. He's a UA-camr. Does awesome work that's easy for him.
You should get a TRX, or a HELLCAT Durrango\Cherokee. 707+ HP fun!
It doesn't take much...I have a '23 Sierra and a month ago, someone tried to pull out in front of me and make a left turn without looking. I slammed on my brakes and maybe hit the minivan going about 5mph. I hit her in the front driver's side wheel. At first, it didn't look bad, just a few dents in the steel part of the front bumper, a scrape on the plastic part of the bumper, and the bottom plastic trim had some gouges in it. Also, inside the truck, my stuff flew off the front seat and damaged the speaker grill in the bottom part of the door. $3100 later (going to be charged to the other lady's insurance, thank God), my truck is fixed. Got a new bottom bumper trim by the tow hooks, new steel bumper, and the upper trim part of the bumper right below the grill was repainted. The biggest shocker was the speaker grill on the inside passenger door. Apparently GM doesn't just make the speaker cover...you have to replace the entire door panel (which that is on backorder) at a cost of $609 plus labor because it is one piece. I'm glad it's not my insurance taking the hit for this. Only took about 4 days to fix, so relatively minor.
I park like that too, far from everyone and against a curb. Luckily I haven't hit the side of my car on anything, just curbed the wheels a couple of times! 😂
Well also how much your willing to spend is a factor in what type of daily driver you would want, I would say from riding in multiple nice cars the most comfortable yet quick cars have been BMW's and Audi's. My favorite being the RSQ8.
Don’t feel so bad or beat yourself up. I did the same thing at a local restaurant here in Corpus Christi and I locked the post onto the bed and the second door. I had to lock it in the four-wheel-drive to get it off the post.
🙋🏾♂️guilty of same injury to my wife’s SUV. I feel you. She loves her SUV, though, so we fixed it (out of pocket) and kept it.
I feel your pain. Had a man back into me put a dent in my bumper and a silver dollar dent in the fender by the bumper. I got quotes of 4k to fix it. Replace bumper and remove bed to fix dent then paint the whole side of bed. Found out ford uses a three piece bumper and I could reach the dent with a body hammer. Cost of bumper piece is 134 bucks. Putting off repairs since no backup sensors are out alignment and I have time/money to fix it.
Last year some Luddite turned their wheel too soon while backing out and caused similar damage on my Equinox. Nowhere near $15k but still way more expensive than I had ever imagined. Explains why I see so may beat up cars driving around these days!
Carvana took my 2011 Durango with a blown engine for like 2K so I assume they'd take that truck too lol
I remember the chevy commercial where they were clowning on ford for using aluminum on their bodies only for chevy to start using aluminum on their trucks as well.
Seeing that door, a chevy truck st my dealer with the hood sliced and the recall where chevy truck food are splitting it looks like chevt it's eating its own words
Durango SRT...
Get a BMW X5 xDrive40i with the M Sport package. Lightly used, but loaded. One of the best SUVs out there. If that's not enough power (keep in mind BMW understates their numbers... And it has launch control), you can step up to the X5M. Also, do yourself a favor and get one that has the Driving Assistance PRO package (adaptive cruise).
Mike! You get yourself some Alumaweld sticks, a grinder, a can of matching spray paint, and voila!
Trucks were made to be dented and dinged anyway in the real world.
You could find a low mileage Trackhawk.
Being a target, dealing with police and insurance on the constant. No thanks
I always park the same way. Far away and away from other cars. I’ve been guilty of goofing up just like you!
Made the same mistake leaving a house party at 18 years old 😂 it was a fence post and I didn’t want to drive on homeowners lawn and other vehicles were blocking an easy exit. More than 20 years later I’d say F your lawn I’m out of here.
Can I get a used/ pre owned zero money down,600-700 credit score??
Pls make more UA-cam videos. Really enjoy them
A Little bondo and some duct tape should fix it!😂😂
"Not loyal to GM" Yet, at some point he wants his own Chevrolet Dealership! Does something not add up?
While newer trucks seem to dent more easily you gotta remember that even though it was slow the truck is heavy and moving under power. So damage can happen easy.
Car and truck are built with soda cans. Thin!!! Lol😂
Probably 100k+ also 🤡 these definitely are not work trucks.
Can not make 10 mpg anymore
If you want a daily go get yourself a SS they`re still great to drive 10 years since they were first made I own the Aussie version with a few minor mods and it`s a great car
Been there, Done that to my Maserati Gran Turismo. Parked catty wampus in my garage. Started baking out hit garage door pillar, 1 mph accident. $3,000.00 worth of damage for a very minor scrape. Everything got to come off to repair a scratch. $1000.00 for a small can of paint. Whattttt?????
Its a Chevy.. What did you expect? Be lucky you weren't going 2 mph. Someone could have been killed.😂😂
Aluminum can be melted and used to patch right ?
So you were in the Pittsburgh area. I am like a 40 minute drive from the city and I barely ever go. Last time I was out at night in the city someone keyed my truck.
These new luxury trucks are extremely expensive in general and expensive to fix. That damage on my truck could be fixed for probably under 500 with me doing the work. Crazy!
@Chevy Dude: Sorry to see this Mike. It happens to all of us. Will you be buying another truck? What is your opinion on the Canyon AT4?
Still got the RV!! 😂
the ADAS has to be reprogrammed and recalibrated if they remove the part as even 1/4 inch can render it not reliable so they recalibrate it to make sure it works right was the same on our kenworth truck u get the windshield replaced all the ADAS needs to be recalibrated and that is not a warranty item from paccar
......and another reason i like my classic 90s ranger
most likely can sell that door to someone that will fix it. also try to find a salvage door of the same color and it will save a lot on the repair bill. most of the cost then would be in the cab corner and the bed side.
Time for a trackhawk!!!
That's painful to look and I know it hurts the soul. But go to the junkyard, get a door and the trim piece. Bend out the bedside. Paint to match. There is fixing to "new" standard, fixing to very close to new, fixing to okay, and fixing to run standards of repair. If course I keep my cars 10 years and don't change them like I do my socks. Economically, that is generally much more beneficial.
Still, with Carvana's offer that wasn't a bad move.
pfff, some blue duct tape and nobody would even notice
500HP SUV? SRT or Trackhawk Jeep GC would be cool 🔥
Once you file claim it will go on a Carfax & AutoCheck as vehicle will have report of an accident & will lower value a bit. It will take up to 120 days to get on report so you can sell it before then.
15k seems high. Our shop is under $70 an hour and I’m pretty you don’t need to reprogram those systems on Chevy. And from what I see fixing the cab is still an option or section a piece in. I like fixing bc it’s way less invasive which translates to less rust issues down the road.
Explorer st trust me I have one that twin turbo 3.0 v6 puts you in the seat
Why can't they charge this great credit score, money down set up on used car.. because most people that are looking for used car sometimes don't have both and that's why cars aren't selling.. work with customers on their paycheck/ income base . because people pay ain't going up as fast as cost of living and car prices..
I remember when Chevy owners and Chevy itself made fun of Ford for aluminum bodies and the step to get on the bed.
I did what I thought was about $800 in damage to the front fender trim and front bumper on my 2012 Tocoma, it turned out to be $2000.
I don't like jeeps or really any domestic brand cars. But a trackhawk of some kind sounds fun
If you do a insurance claim, the Car Fax will destroy the trucks value!
392 Jeep something different indeed
Question: was that truck titled in your personal name or dealerships name?
Need to go with a dodge charger hellcat!
Things happen but that would make me feel very sick. Be thankful it's not worse. I understand why you would not want to claim the damage with insurance
Did they give you a check like they advertise they will do?
Chevy Dude get a classic Chevy truck dude that would be a draw to your dealership and a cool ride man:P
Get the Ram RHO! Starts around 70k! 540hp
Buy a Lexus LX570 or the new Infiniti QX
Did you reverse the employment of your "reverse mechanics"?
lol. Yes. Still looking for one too. 😢
You’re selling it to Carvana because they wont replace the door!
Mike you could get the new ford Bronco
Is this a commercial for detail supplies ?
cut and patch in steel does not cost 15 grand, todays body shops don't know how to fix anything, just replace parts
It's aluminum.
Lets see you in a durango srt 6.4l
I'm surprised the low rates in the comments. Our techs are paid $30 hr plus benefits equal to $12hr with shop cost, administrative cost to be profitable a charge out rate of 100hr is not unreasonable.
New Daily: Escalade V-Series!
Bend a piston?
Carvana is going to take that to some hack and they will load it with Bondo, you should have fixed it and sold it on your lot those are tough to find.
Get the new RAM RHO!!! Starts around 70k with 540hp!
Wow when it's cheaper for you to sell the car vs insurance claim or fix it..Why not buy another zr2? Could look at a RAM TRX.. don't really know of any brand new 500hp wagons in the market.
Insurance can refuse to pay it’s too much and they could put a used door
Makes me want to get an old vehicle
Isn’t it crazy that someone would be willing to take care yet be too careful then karma happens and the repair is astronomical. However, the truck looks great and I guess next time get out and look as they say in commercial trucking. 😮 yikes 15k in damage
Good luck on find me an SUV with 500 horsepower these days though I think BMW makes one still I've heard most SUVs these days are the four cylinders or 6 cylinders🎉
If it were me I’d put a new back door on it and keep driving it
Get a BMW X5 or X6 40i and put a tune on it. Both are 179 eligible
Not enough HP. I did drive a X6 M50i yesterday. But I would want the Competition series. 😈
Ford Raptor!
Yea and just amagin if it was a Ford....haha. all new panals.. I could fix it like new for 2000$
That’s would be 8k job . Your getting hosesd because of supply shortages and work slow down along with greed
84 hours 😂
You sound like a total greenhorn regarding repairing your truck. I was an estimator for 24 years. Blending into the front door and the R&I of the trim is totally necessary. I’d like to work at the shop that is able to collect $100 per hour from an insurance company. I know that different markets have a different prevailing rates. Here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin when I retired 6 years ago the rate was nowhere near that.
So ridiculously over priced to fix that.
