    Cooper Flagg has been labeled the next great NBA superstar by a plethora of media outlets from ESPN, SLAM Magazine and even the NBA itself. Flagg’s hype has exceeded what Zion Williamson received in high school and he is following Zion’s steps by being the next Duke Blue Devil that’s projected to be the #1 pick in 2025 NBA Draft.
    Like every high school basketball player, Flagg’s game has a myriad of flaws. Given the fact that he plays with his twin brother, Ace, on every team, has been coached by his Mom (she was an elite player herself) and only played Nike EYBL 16U, Flagg has had the chance to hide his deficiencies. Flagg’s prep evaluation hasn’t been viewed under the same lens as other elite prospects like AJ Dybantsa and Cameron Boozer.
    In this video, I break down Flagg’s offensive and defensive tendencies, how I would scout him as an opposing coach and how I can force him into the mistakes. If Cooper Flagg doesn’t correct these habits by the time he gets drafted, his NBA career could mimic 2013 #1 Overall Pick Anthony Bennett.
    Do you think Cooper Flagg is overrated?
    Who does his game remind you of?

    I agree totally with you. I think the kid is very good but has weaknesses that have to be improved to be very good at next level. However I would say I see this in most top prospects now. It’s become a game of natural advantages and flashy dunks and great outside shooting. But the overall fundamentals are weak. Boxing out. Defending off the ball. After using a pick missing the picker rolling to basket. In many cases terrible fundamentals from players considered really good. This is why despite great natural talent the rest of the world is getting hard to beat in international play. The old nyc catholic hs fundamentals are not taught or drilled enough. These fundamentals used to be mastered and allowed players to pull even or surpass more athletic players. So today they shoot better then ever and are bigger and more athletic but have poor overall fundamentals.

    This is what someone with a little knowledge sounds like while pretending to really know what he's talking about. The fake bluster don't fool me. The errors you point to here are as common as a cold for all young players, no matter how great they are or how much potential they have.
    Decision making on offense comes with experience and with working your way to the top when you're surrounded by other great players. And no one learns how to really play defense until they get into college and get the right teaching and repetition needed to master that end of the floor. If you're looking for good defensive play in AAU ball you might as well be looking for a needle in a stack of straw. And who told you that a shooters feet had to be "aligned" in order for them to have a good release? Pure nonsense.
    A legitimate scout would have highlighted the kid's strengths and weaknesses. He would have included video depicting some of the good things he observed while reviewing his game tape. It would not have held back from being critical but would have done so in a positive and encouraging way. This is particularly true for a kid of Cooper's age.
    BTW... I have 30 years of HS and College coaching experience and have travelled back and forth across the country coaching AAU ball....the worst thing that's happened to youth basketball in the last 50 years. Fake coaches, "trainers" and scouts abound. I can sniff em out from a mile away. Parents and players beware.

    I could also make a how to stop Lebron tape based on his 50% misses. Kid is 6'8 at 16 years old. He's going to be playing (bare minimum) PF at the next level. Way, way, way too much criticism that he doesn't dribble like a point guard and doesn't drive like Ja Morant. Kid isn't going to handle the ball even 1/2 that much at the pro level. Kid is double/triple teamed every play. He's not going to be handling the ball every play down the floor at college, more or less the pros. It works because of all the plays you aren't showing.

    • @ongodddd
      @ongodddd 7 місяців тому +1

      Yeah but i think youre kind of missing the point of the video. Having the ball is how cooper plays the game, he is pretty high usage. Its okay that he doesnt dribble like a pg or drive like ja morant at this level, but the guy is just pointing out that his game as it is right now will be a little harder to translate to the NBA unless he fixes some of these ball handling and decision making mistakes. The talent is there 1000% but at that next level obviously everyone is as talented as you. It comes down to specific details at that next level that this dude is pointing out. The criticism is based on NBA level. Hes been alive for like 16 years lol these are warranted mistakes anyways. By the time he gets to the league he will have hopefully vastly improved as many players that come around like him tend to do. I think he will be fine but this is about criticism and getting better for the best league in the world.

    I sure someone could have taken game clips of LeBron James at the same age and broke down everyone of his bad possessions and bad habits. But someone could also have taken games clips of LeBron James at that age which had you salivating. All that to say, Cooper's weaknesses can erased with good coaching. I don't think anyone questions his talent.

    • @DorianGroup82
      @DorianGroup82  7 місяців тому

    • @nysaxman
      @nysaxman 7 місяців тому +1

      @@DorianGroup82 Exactly. And if Cooper works on his weaknesses (as LeBron and every great player does) he too can play 15+ years and win multiple rings in the NBA. It's up to him and how hard he works, and of course the chemistry of the team(s) he play for. Because no high school age player is NBA perfect. Not Lebron, Kobe, Kevin Garnett, Cam Boozer or whoever.

So every black scout has to point out any and every weakness. But you notice how he had nothing critical to say about Cam Boozer's game? Supposedly he's NBA ready. And Cooper isn't. They both will have a learning curve on the next level. But I'll pick Cooper over Cam. Cooper can be a star. Cam will mostly likely be like his father. He'll play 10 plus years in the NBA and make a lot of money. He'll be a good solid rotation player. But a star?

    Most players even at the professional levels don't know how to play without the ball. That's the main difference between old players back in the day in young players. But this generation is way more skilled. Cooper will do well because there are still flaws even with today's NBA players. Once he has the strength he needs, I'm sure he's rated number one for a reason. NBA Scouts that saw him, probably know a thing or two.

      This generation is probably the least skilled, not the most skilled. Majority have no post game. Majority have no concept of moving without the ball. They look so great offensively because their defenders are severely handicapped by the rules that are in place. The actual concept of what constitutes a legal dribble has been bent to allow them to consistently carry/double dribble, in addition to how many of the stars are allowed to have multiple pivot foots and thus travel when the situation suits them. The officials often bend over backwards to accomadate the shortcomings and bad habits that they have picked up from pick up ball and AAU. The fact that so many are playing fewer and fewer college games if any at all means they arrive in the league lacking training in the fundamentals but still with a certain level unrealistic expectations that stunts their further growth as a player. Too often their overall development is stunted by the team that drafts them, dependent upon the competence of those in charge and how well they are committed to it AND how much the player is committed and sold on it. If his ego is massive that may be a hard sell.

    • @coreyYAPPS
      @coreyYAPPS 7 місяців тому

      I would agree with you that they don't play the game as well as we did X NBA players Etc most people believe this generation is more skilled. In my opinion as a former college coach of 24 years they don't play the game as well but their skill is off the chart
