Let's Play Quest for Glory 1 VGA #03: Welcome to Spielburg

  • This is my first time playing through this game. Kindly avoid posting major spoilers in the comments.
The town of Spielburg and the valley it is within are strange lands to Derek. While we could rush out of town right away in search of monsters to slay and daring do to do, such reckless bravado will only succeed in getting us killed. What we ned to do is learn about what's going on in town and the area at large and what better way to do that than talk to the people? We may be a fighter, but that doesn't mean we don't use our head when the time calls for it.
The first game in the series is unique in that it doesn't have an over-arching time limit. There is the day/night cycle and one quest that apparently is timed, but you need to purposefully go to a particular area to trigger that, something I will endeavour not to do for as long as possible. There are other things that will force our hand, however: we need to eat and sleep to stay healthy and the former of those costs money that we'll need to earn. For now, however, we have the luxury of some cash reserves and enough rations to last for a few days, meaning we can take our time in getting to know this sleepy, troubled town.

Regarding the german terms that came up:
Spielburg - literally "Game/play castle", could also be interpret as "toy castle".
Schultz Meistersson - Schultz Masters-son. The Name Schultz derives from "Schultheiß", which would be a medieval mayor. Actually, it should be the same as a medieval Sheriff, thinking about it.
Pferdefedern - literally "Horse feathers". I don't think there is a deeper meaning to be found, just a movie reference.

@Christopher Bingham "Burg" does not mean City. "Burg" means castle. "Stadt" is town. The term "Spielburg" specifically refers to the castle where the baron lifes, while the town close to the castle adopted the name of the castle and is as such "Stadt Spielburg" - "the town of Spielburg".
The term "burg" relates to the term "berg", which means mountain or hill. It was used to describe a fortified hill.

This is easily my favourite series by Sierra. I've replayed the various games many times over the years. I find the different classes give it more replayability than most adventure games; there's often content exclusive to specific classes or alternate puzzle solutions.

Heya Kiko, just wanted to let you know I bought your book (Errant Hope) and am looking forward to read it :)
Have fun with the Quest for Glory series, it was (still is) really one of the better ones out there (even with some of the moon logic)!
Also, I'm not certain if it's been adviced already, and I'm not sure if it counts for this game, but I recall that you have to use the mouth on your own character before talking to people. That way you can greet people... And it becomes important later on :>

This is a fascinating game, i have never seen anything quite like it.

    • @Bluesit32

@@Kikoskia It's the topics, really. Talking about the brigands, the Baron, or the current troubles tend to give points. Also a good way to know if you're using your money right. You get points for buying stuff you need. Like apples.
