Go with the Raypak/Rheem or the StaRite MaxiTherm. But measure first, the Raypak (my preference) has a large cabinet. StaRite was bought out by Pentair years ago and the Pentair heater in this video is a clone of the original StaRite. But the MaxiTherm has significantly better access for service. I'm not a Hayward fan. I'll leave it at that. (Been servicing pool equipment since '95)
Fellow pool guy since 1983 and I couldn't agree more. We sell all Rheem, easy to fix and the best of the bunch in my opinion. Hayward stuff across the board has really gone downhill since I started working on pools.
Electric doesnt make sense for all uses..Like EV cars, it just makes sense for solo or passenger driving in the city. Other uses, you are better off with gas, and gasoline is perfectly fine for the environment, C02 is not a issue, and EV is even WORSE for enviro and the children mining for EV. So same efficiency can be used here. Besides more people use electric the more it will go up. There is no company to compete as the gov subsidizes or supplies it.
Will the electric heater work well for a pool (38' x 18' x 6' deep) and inground hot tub? I'm in 29 Palms and the winter nights get into the 30's. I have solar panels.

I agree. I wont buy another Pentair. I can see them butcher the StaRite, which was a decent model. The manifold has been going bad on recent models.

What about the Janndy JXi series or Aquacal?
What about a heat pump type?
What about the new hybrids?

Don't buy anything unless it's been on the market for at least 4 years.
Trust me on this one.

Hayward heaters and pumps are complete crap! I have had to replace BOTH in three seasons!!!
