I'm 😭 crying... Singers these days 2024, don't write or sing songs like this anymore... For many people it might have been the good, the bad or the ugly time in their life... But Thanks to God Almighty we made it to 15 Jan 2024🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
❤
❤🎉😢❤ sounds good still
Totally agree! The 70 ‘s had the best music!!
Happy memories ❤
So true
Beautiful! They don't make music like this today! It's a shame
R.I.P to the late, great Betty Everett.
RIP Betty. You are missed. If I remember...Betty passed away shortly after this performance.
I’m getting chills. 2/28/24 would have been my parent’s 60th wedding anniversary. This was their song. They made it to 50 years but my mom was ill and died on March 4th 2014. My dad passed away in 2020. I miss you guys so much! Rest now I love you ❤
I'm old school, as I'm 71 and yes i remember these beautiful love ballards. Our generation had the best love songs and the best songs to dance to . Sure a lot of singers have been called home, there music lives on.❤
I just Love Jerry Butler ❤Betty still got that Beautiful Voice 😊😘🙏
Hello how are you 😊
A magic moment captured for the ages, brings tears to my eyes it is so beautiful...
The best. The very best. So glad to have been born in that generation. The music now days is pure shyt.
I remember my mom and dad dancing to this song RIP mom &dad love ❤️ you
Hello how are you doing today 😊
I remember when this tune came out on the radio in 1964. I was amazed at what a beautiful sound Jerry and Betty had in recording this classic love song. 60 years later it is still as rich.
That's when I found out who kept playing this song, you see I was a waitress during the midnight shift and every night this song was played on the jukebox. Then I met him and we dated and got married. We was married for 24yrs 6 months and then he passed away.
Beautiful music. Lovely couple.
@@carolgoldfinger6381 Thank you Carol, that was me ,Judy Duda, Karcher
One of the most beautiful duets in music.❤
It’s easy to sing such a beautiful song like this but these two hit it way out of the park. Magnificent ❤❤
Can't beat this, always takes me back, love these love ballads, I'm 73 now but hearing this I'm 16 again!
I blieve this is Miss Everett's final performance. RIP dear Betty.
Yes I believe you are correct.
She was ill when doing that performance.
@@carolynharrison6987 Bless her. ❤🩹
Yes, and she passed the following year. That's why this video is so bittersweet to me. She was so nervous because she hadn't performed in many years. And she knocked it out of the box!!! Continue to RIP sweet Betty.😔🙏
@@cuffeear1 yes she did! I love her performance as well.
This makes me cry. Beautiful song, what a blessing they were able to do this before Betty passed. Love to both, miss you Betty.❤
1-17-24 Ah The Ice Man Cometh and he has stayed with Betty Everette. Please bring back these soulful live songs. The world is in need.
That is so true they are better than this stuff they are singing now.
Amen
Beautiful song
I am still dreaming, can't get over those sweet old days. Lord! Have mercy.
Hello how are you doing 😊
I remember purchasing the DVD from PBS when this show aired. I purchased it because of THIS performance. It was really touching and Jerry Butler was a complete gentleman, giving so much of the spotlight to Betty. Her voice never failed her and, yes, I'd say this was THE most special moment of all your PBS specials. I've watched all of them on PBS. Thank you, TJL.
Beautiful.
So sad. They found her in retirement for this show as TJ tried to memorialize a lot of these aging oldies masters on video for us.
This PBS show was in 2001 I believe.
Betty passed just months later.😢😢
@@solraclarkin4375 TJ did a remarkable job bringing so many of these classic artists back into the spotlight (for many of them - one last time). I miss the specials he would put together for PBS.
@clapolla this was my Parents favorite song, But mine was “Walk Easy My Son” because my Dad sung this song to me when I was a kid 9 years old. Every since then I started listening to Doo-Wop on PBS in 1979
This was Betty's last performance with the ICE MAN she passed soon after this Performances. They were super good Friends. Betty passed away in 2001. Jerry is 84 and lives in Chicago. In 1991 he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Impressions with Curtis Mayfield and the rest of the group. As of 4/24 he hasn't been as a solo act. Also as of 4/24 Betty Everett has Not. Jerry Butlers voice was as smooth as Ice, Hence the name the "ICE MAN"
What a wonderful moment in time preserved for everyone to enjoy. A great song done justice by two beautiful voices. Thanks for making it happen TJ and for sharing it with all of us.
I am also 71. This song was my wedding song in 4/14/73. It was sung by our classmate, Sharon Johnson. Beautiful memories. ☆Chuck Patton☆
I have know of this song since childhood. Betty and Jerry sung it beautifully. What a classic tune ❤❤❤
I fell in love with this song in the 8th grade. I decided then, that I wanted it at my wedding.
I married, but no wedding! I think it’s one of the most beautiful songs ever. ❤
Hello how are you doing today 😊?
I love and miss you grandma. Your only grandchild! ❤
I miss the days when all singers could/would sing. The days when the lyrics had such meaning. Couldn't give us a better demonstration . Thank you, Betty and Jerry, and all involved. ❤

MANY YEARS LATER, IT STILL IS SPECIAL.
TEACHING MY GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT GRANDDAUGHTERS TO LISTEN TO LYRICS AND MUSIC, SO THEY WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOOD MUSIC AND NOT TRASH.

Hello how are you doing today 😊?
Oh so beautifully done. They look like a pair of Angels❤❤❤❤❤I remember this song. I was a baby when it came out. I can hear my mama singing it as she did her house chores. She had a beautiful voice. She went home to be with her Father in heaven on the 27th day of December 2017. I miss her and always will remember her lovely voice singing through the house while she worked.🌹❤😇♥️ SIPP Momma! I love you always!
The best ever!!!
This is real music ❤😂😊🎉
so sad ,at that time she was very sick( cancer) she died shortly after,
Brings back my happy years
Hello how are you doing today 😊?
This was Betty's last stage appearance. She passed away on August 19,1991 shortly after this show was recorded. Jerry Butler lives in Chicago and at 84 still performs. His wife of 60 years, Annette passed away in 2019. She was one of his original back up singers. Betty & Jerry were best of friends and their voices blended like fine aged Whiskey. Jerry was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 as a member of the Impressions along with Curtis Mayfield and the rest of the group. As of 4/24 he not been inducted as a solo artist. Betty although eligible around 1988 has not been nominated as of 4/24. Betty & Jerry's voices were perfect. Jerry's voice was/is as smooth as Ice, hence the name the "ICE MAN". AN ICON in the 50s & 60s music era also DooWop. I say
Jerry "ICE MAN" Butler, Thanks for the Back Seat MEMORIES and for being a Gentleman and a Music Man.
She died August 19th 2001
So touching and beautiful 😊😊. Thanks TJ for bringing us memories of great music.
Hello how are you doing today 😊
One of my all-time favourites! Absolutely beautiful; soulful and passionate. They brang it!

Hello how are you doing?😊
Betty Everett! RIP
My dad was playing dis on my porch, crying telling me ah good person i am , shhh i cried to 😢
Just simply Beautiful, you hear me!!!
Yes, yes, Odis was a great impression of the Day recognizing all of his songs, kept you moving, We will keep you rolling, ❤️ and Peace, Soul
In 1996 I got to see a moment like this live at the Rhythm & Blues Foundation's Seventh Annual Pioneer Awards where Betty was one of the honorees. When the two of them came out on stage I almost started crying. It was definitely my favorite performance that evening, along with Bobby Womack who also was honored. Sadly, the video made was not aired on TV. So happy that this video is here for me to reminisce. Thank you.
Hello how are you today 😊
Jerry Butler your voice is like Butter sweet for so Betty Everett you can sing you melt my heart with that voice This is what you called singing ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
Timeless perfection!
I Remember this Song From Your PBS Special VHS I love hearing this song Again TJ it's a really beautiful song
I’m an old soul ..Love Love this! 2024 Love Momo ❤
My first time hearing this Beautiful song 🌹
Nice love song ❤
I grew up a big fan of Chicago soul and had multiple records by these two, including their exquisite 1964 hit duet version of this Gilbert Be'caud 1950s French pop classic "Je t'appartiens" ("Let It Be Me"). With Jerry Butler I go back to "Moon River" (1961) and "Make It Easy on Yourself" (1962); with Betty Everett it was "You're No Good" 1963). This incredibly moving PBS TV performance decades later took me completely by surprise. Its back story alone is emotionally overwhelming. Notice how Betty holds on to ultimate gentleman Jerry the whole time for the strength to make it through.
@Noomz-of-Earl DO YOU HAVE ANY TYRONE DAVIS quality footage from late 70s period w his superb and rare band ? Why dont cha release it here if so ? Just some brief excepts availbale on the forum. Suggest read the PRUTER book CHICAGO SOUL. Got any Johnny Sayles footage. Oer
@@sulevisydanmaa9981- Sorry, I don't have any footage (and have never posted a video). I have read the Robert Pruter book and found it enjoyable and informative.
