Still another point they left out is how soil salts are flushed out of the soil by rainwater in a way that other water sources instead contribute to. Salty soils further dessicate plants and humus and this dries out the landscape further...

Rounding down 66,827 litres. Just for drinking water purposes a person should drink at least 2 litres of water a day. So even if you said a family of 4 with 3 litres a day each for drinking that is 4,380 litres a year. How much they using to shower, cook, clean and water plants?
plants like orange on dessert... don't know the fruit trees up there but in Dominican republic the South can go for 10 or more months without rain we have grass,and trees that thrive without extra water,in particular guallacan is good for shade because do not drop the foliage at any time ,
I live in a medium size town in Australia & a mate & his family live on a small farm with only rain water. His eldest son & his wife (lived in the city their entire life) came to visit just after heavy rains. The tanks were overflowing & with in a week they had no water. My mate & his wife couldn’t figure it out as all tanks had been overflowing only weeks before. Turned out City people couldn’t comprehend that taking half hour long showers twice a day was somehow wasteful. They refused to pay for the water my mate & his wife than had to purchase & needless to say I don’t think they will NEVER be welcome to come back! How stupid & or entitled can you be!!!
How about Arizona, the American Southwest & this country stopped importing so many people, legal & illegal immigrants both. That would solve a whole lot of issues including water.

The first time I ever saw this rain harvesting was when I visited a friend in Kingaroy and was fascinated by it. Granted this was almost 20 years ago.
