The F Pygmy 15-note pan is made by Duncan Arnott @meridianhandpans in Bristol, UK.
Nice! I love the harmonic complexity driven from such peaceful and simple modal set of notes. The top button/target seems to have overtones like 2 octaves and a fifth above or something. It actually kinda inspires me to animate something derived from a Handpan. (Found this from the link in your email...thanks for reaching out...with reply in email). 👽
Wayne, hi! Great to hear from you! You nailed it… All notes, including the top note (called the “ding”) on handpans are tuned to create (in addition to the fundamental) an octave and a compound fifth above the octave). In this particular pan the maker (Duncan Arnott at Meridian in the UK) went all out to make the ding super ultra harmonic-y for me. But all of the notes have this quality and the player can access each of those harmonics by finger-dampening one axis of the note’s dimple and hitting the other axis. It’s just that the ding is an extreme version of that. Regarding your idea to animate something handpan-inspired, there’s a very capable VST with some great handpan samples available. Happy to tell you more via email. (Speaking of that, if you sent me an email I cannot find it. ??)

Like Wayne, I am just noting/ enjoying the 'ding'. It's beautiful to watch you play and then hear what comes out in response to what I see you doing. Of course, I also love the view from your studio window!
