I am born and raised in canada but my parents always asked me to speak punjabi and give equal preference to punjabi as english. mai punjabi poori vdiya punjabi bol padh te likh v laina.

Once I met a US Senator in a party. In a interesting conversation he explained me the sense of US Immigration . He said the 1st generation who migrate to US might never be US American but the 2nd generation will.. and if the 2nd generation will be only half American then for sure your 3rd generation will be 100% US Americans. It is sad to see that our 2nd generation is already 100%. That they have no link to our culture, traditions, customs, beliefs or language. Imagine how the 3rd generation will be!!

True, I'm Indian(Punjabi) born in the West, and Asian dads have no relationship with their kids at all. Father and son relationships are built on fear, not respect. Most sons don't know how to even talk to their dads. It's a destructive cycle.

A lot of pakistanis do that unfortunately. Because of that lots of punjabi people grow up only being able to understand punjabi but not speak it.
