A fine live studio set by the Lab. Although a session for John peel and Radio 1, this was left off the ‘ABC’ session CD set - possibly because it was a live set.
The band were in the studio in Maida Vale, Peel was snug at home with his family in Suffolk.
The hiss and leakage you can hear was in the studio and is not the result of a poor quality recording.
Thank you for uploading this session. It should have more views. The photo is wonderful, too. Still hurts to think of the loss of Mary, even after years and years.
Flower Called Nowhere is my personal favorite from Dots. I consider myself lucky to have seen them once. (this tour, in Seattle.)
This session is wonderful, even mytical: Stereolab at the peak of their power! "Flower Called Nowhere" is my fave of this era too, but they have so many perfect songs!
All the small boats on the water aren't going anywhere
Surely they must be loaded with more than simple matter
Floating on top and gracefully tending to the same pole
All the small boats on the water going nowhere
Is it true that none of them will ever break free and sail?
Feel the night is made of rocks, the stagnant mass
Is it true that none of them, will ever break free and sail?
Break free from the stagnant things left in obscurity
Left in obscurity
All the faces with their eyes closed giving a smile
Weightless like a body that would vacate to its own light
Is it true that none of these contented happy faces
Will not ever hear a cry, won't hear a cry?
Is it true that none of these contented happy faces
Will not ever hear a cry?
Filled with love not with desire, love not desire
Is it true that none of these contented happy faces
Will not ever hear a cry?
Filled with love not with desire, love not desire
All the small boats on the water aren't going anywhere
Surely they must be loaded with more than simple matter
Floating on top and gracefully tending to the same pole
All the small boats on the water going nowhere
Is it true that none of them will ever break free and sail?
Break free from the stagnant things left in obscurity
I love the colour and sonic of this recording
I’ve been searching for this !!!

Mary always sounded like she had a sly grin as she sang
