Their version of “Hallelujah” is approaching 700million views. “Bohemian Rhapsody” is unbelievable. -Say Something, Mary Did You Know?, Havana, Amazing Grace, The Prayer, The Grinch, 12 Days of Christmas…they have hundreds of wonderful songs, and none are bad!
For your next Pentatonix reaction, do what you just did: look through their catalog (of hundreds of covers and originals), find one that you already know and love, then check out how Pentatonix has spun it.
You're probably going to gravitate to Pentatonix singing the classics... Imagine, Bohemian Rhapsody, Hallelujah, Amazing Grace... I'd throw The Prayer (originally Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli) in there because it's a beeeeaaaaautiful belter if not a "classic". Maybe even Jolene with Dolly Parton which got them their third Grammy. They also do pop (and a ton of other genres and eras) but their arrangements are *always* tasteful and appropriate to the individual song. I'll be surprised if someone hasn't already mentioned it, but the only member change in their 11 years together is the bass - their original bass, Avi, left in 2017 and Matt (far left in this video) came in later that same year. So half of the songs I just recced will have one different member, but a lot of reactors get confused with Kirstin and Mitch who always change up their looks. Still them, though.
This one still makes me cry even when I watch reactions. My dad raised me on Simon and Garfunkel, John Denver, all of it. I've always loved them and this was so pitch-perfect and lovely. I strongly recommend you listen to their version of Little Drummer Boy, by the way! It's faithful to the original while still gloriously arranged.
Pentatonix has raised the bar very high for a capella! They are astounding and have 11 years of both originals and covers. Your numbers will now explode if you continue doing reactions of them ..but you will run into a LOT of trouble getting them blocked if you don't distort the screen or whatever tricks that have been found to work, and you must stop the video occasionally as well. Welcome to a wonderful, exciting, and delightful ride in music listening to PTX. We Pentaholics will be there with you for the ride!!
Yay! A TEN! Wowza! The bell tones are a signature of theirs. And yes there is a beatboxer and he swallows a drum set for breakfast every morning! Complete with kick drums and snares. He also plays a cello and beatboxes at the same time. This band, or group, has a wall of sound that is unbelievable! You will have to hear Hallelujah and Little Drummer Boy. One of their songs have over 600M views! So many good songs and if you are into Christmas music you are in for a treat. They have the corner on Christmas! Thanks for the reaction!
New sub, right away. Also an old timer here. Found these guys about a year and a half ago and everything they do is amazing. Saw them live and the are just a amazing live. Bohemian Rhapsody was my first, couldn't see how an a capella group could cover that. All I could say was OMG, been hooked ever since. Imagine is a emotional and poignant as anything I've ever seen. Would love to see your reaction to either of those.
I'm an old Salty too and if you want absolutely a MIND BLOWING experience, you need to do "Bohemian Rhapsody" , then followed with "Hallelujah" but in my opinion, pick the Desert Scene verses the live version. The live is also excellent but many people get goosebumps on the Hallelujah desert scene more so. I clicked bc being old and salty myself, I'm anticipating watching with you for your reaction. Those 2 songs are EPIC.
One place to consider starting your Pentatonix journey is at their beginning: They got signed from a talent show called “The Sing Off.” With only five members they had more full and complex arrangements than acapella groups with ten or more members. Wherever you go next, we will follow. Ps. I grew up in a religious group that forbid instruments, so I was immersed in a lot of amazing choral music, but when I first heard pentatonix, my mind was still blown.
Absolutely love your reaction to this one! The expression on your face a few seconds in when Scott starts singing was epic! Please make a playlist of your PTX reactions so us pentaholics can more easier give you recommendations to watch next and to binge your reactions
You'd probably love their rendition of John Lennon's "Imagine". It's fabulous. It features their original bass, Avi Kaplan, instead of Matt (the young man in the white jacket). Anything before 2018 has Avi. Everything since has Matt. PTX are 3 time Grammy winners and (hopefully) going to receive their 4th for "The Prayer", which was released this past Christmas but not released in time for this year's Grammy nods.
In the tradition of just about all the people first reacting to Pentatonix, you said "Wow!" Sometimes it's said four or five times. The group is notable for Christmas music, and they put new life into a lot of the old Christmas standards. But save that for December, there is plenty to enjoy in the meantime.
Something to know about Pentatonix is that what you hear on a video can be heard live. They do not do anything that cannot be repeated as a live performance. I have seen tapes of some of their live performances and they are every bit as good as the video. Check it out. A lot of people who enjoy Pentatonix think their covers are upgrades. I understand that have over 200 songs in the catalog, and while I have not heard them all, what I have heard I have enjoyed. At times there may be an instrument used in a performance but it will always be shown. eg Lindsey Sterling on violin and Kevin(beatboxer) on cello in a Radioactive cover. Their catalog is not all covers they have original songs as well.
Disturbed definitely took this song to another level. Pentatonix' version is good, too. Peter Hollens and Home Free's Tim Foust also have an a capella version of this song that I like as well.
These guys are master of music. They just don’t miss Check out their live version of Kiera’s “Gold”. It will move you Another is “mad world “ which they put out during the pandemic
Is this your first Pentatonix?? Wow and such a great one to start. I’d love to see you react to Amazing Grace and Hallelujah by them. You might cry, just a warning 😊
Pentatonix has a way of making you feel the music. A few more emotional songs they do are Hallelujah, Imagine, Amazing Grace, The Prayer and Mary Did You Know.
IMHO: SImon and Garfunkel gave a warning to the world, Disturbed gave a reprimand, and here PTX gives a promise of hope. all singing the same beautiful song. Welcome to the PTX Pentaholic addiction. everything they have done is an upgrade to the originals, and PTX original music is proof of the power of the human voice.
Your first time hearing Pentatonix? I can't wait.... everyone's first Mitch-slap is so special....that deer in headlights look as you encounter Mitch's amazing countertenor. Scott is the blonde tenor-borderline baritone. Mitch has short dark hair Kirstie is the only female Kevin is the beat boxer, this is after Avi left the group so Matt would be the bass.
I've heard people say that the S&G version is the warning, Disturbed is the anger that 'it' has happened, and Pentatonix sing as the survivors have hope.

Mad World, the Gary Jules rendition, done by PTX, keeps the sadness, the helplessness, the reality of the original. But as usual, these guys, and our lady Kirstie, make it their own. I’ve subscribed because I like your honest reaction.
Fun side note. The original was Tears for Fears. It was upbeat and pop. A dance tune. Jules did a cover so well with such a different spin that everyone thought his version was the original. Even better when he did a collaboration with Tears for Fears they his version, not thiers.
As a Pentaholic myself, tyty for your reaction. I've only started 9 months ago following this group. I've yet to be disappointed. They are exceptionally good at making the covers upgraded to a new level. I don't believe you'll be disappointed either. Ty again for your reaction. ❤
Subscribed. Pentatonix (PTX) formed eleven years ago to compete in the third season of the Sing Off. They won. Before that, the first (Scott),second (Mitch) and fourth (Kirstin) singers from this video were friends as children and sang together in high school as The Trio. The third singer, Matt, is their current bass since late 2017. The original bass, Avi, left in 2017 to start his own successful music career. This is the only member change to the band. Kevin, the fellow on the far right, is the beatboxer/tenor/cellist and is a musical genius. Their record label is extremely harsh on copyrighting so your pauses and comments are a good thing to do. Even then you may need to alter the image in the future. PTX is generally Pop but can sing anything. They have revitalized Christmas music with several holiday albums. They started out doing covers, but now have a bit of original music also. Recommend their Hallelujah and Daft Punk (medley).
i'd say Pentatonix is known for their classics, despite covering so many generes very well. (some of their classics include Hallelujah, The Prayer, Mad world, Bohemian Rhapsody...) They are known in particular for their christmas music, the way they can keep traditional music we've heard a million times fresh. amongst the pop, electriconica, classic rock, hymms, brodway, and christmas music they've done in their 10 years, they always seem to be able to bring something to their arrangements, wether it be their covers or originials
Yes, I was afraid of the brightness of it all. It left the dark casting of the previous 2, and gave it a strangely hopeful twist. Glad you loved it, I did too. 😁😁😎
Great reaction ! I'm subscribing in hopes of more Pentatonix. I've been a fan of them for 10 years and have never been disappointed in any of their arrangements. You may have heard them before, at Christmas time, because that is their most popular genre and they have 6 albums with covers of carols, holiday pop songs and some originals. But they also have several albums with covers of pop songs from the 40's through today. They cover genres from country to Motown, EDM, Broadway and K-pop. And all their arrangements stay true to the original while adding a creative twist that makes it theirs. I suggest their version of Elvis' "Can't Help Falling in Love"
I think you'll be handing out a few more 10s since you're going to do more Pentatonix. You've got the Pentaholics now. Enjoy your spike in subscribes! We are so very here for this!
Loving your videos. Pentatonix is one of my favorite groups. You should check out them singing hallelujah. Outside of them, I’d love to see you react to black thought’s freestyle on funk flex.
They’re amazing!! I don’t even know which song to suggest! They’re all truly great! Maybe “the prayer” and of course “Hallelujah “, and “Imagine” .. the list could go on and on! Ya they’re fully acapella and they’re hard to beat! Great reaction! New Subscriber for sure!
Thank you for diving in to Pentatonix. Their version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah is absolutely breathtaking and brings me to tears everytime I hear it. Their version of Bohemian Rhapsody is a great and whimsical homage to Queen and Freddie Mercury. I would love to go down this rabbit hole with you!
Enjoy. So much to see. For covers homage is always paid before they make it theirs. The Wall of Sound blows me away every time. Over the 10 plus years there has only been one change. First five had Avi, a basso profundo, who wanted to step back and go his own fabulous way. This had Matt on bass. Incredible range and soul in his voice. Each brought a unique element to the group. You will receive recommendations from everyone. I second all of them. Following to see what you do with them and other groups.
1st time viewer, instant subscriber. A genuine reaction is wonderful to see. Pentaholics are a warm and embracing fan base. They will love you I am sure. Please react to more Pentatonix. They have a massive amout of videos. Well 200 or better . Take care and be safe. Hope and joy to you and your family and don't forget to pass it on. =^;^=
Hi Salty! Based on your reaction to this one, I have a feeling you are going to love PTX, masters of a cappella. They won a singing competition back in 2011 and even then the judges exclaimed they were saving a cappella by going outside the traditional. Their catalog is quite extensive and you can’t pick a bad “cover” (affectionately referred to as an “upgrade”) or original. Suspecting you may join the ranks of the rest of us Pentaholics. 👍🏻
Salty, I loved your reaction to this song. As many times as I’ve listened to it, I still get goosebumps. I’m subbing in the hope that you will do more Pentatonix. Please consider Hallelujah, Imagine, The Prayer, Amazing Grace where they all get a solo. 💕
Welcome to the PTX "rabbit hole". 1st up was Scott Hoying baritone, 2nd up Mitch Grassi counter tenor, 3rd up Matt Sallee bass, 4th up Kirsten Madonado alto, and on the right was Kevin Olusola beat boxer, cellist, tenor. The onlly change in the group in 11 years was Avi Kaplan bass was replaced by Matt in late 2017.
Glad you enjoyed this song from Pentatonix! It's certainly up there with my favorites, although it's not my absolute favorite (that tends to change, depending on what song I've heard most recently). I think you'd enjoy Hallelujah, which has the original bass singer for Pentatonix, Avi Kaplan. Another suggestion would be Amazing Grace, with the same lineup you saw here, with Matt Sallee as the bass (3rd solo, white jacket). The change from Avi to Matt is the only personnel change in the group since they started in 2011, so they've got some history, and quite a catalog to look through. One suggestion I often make - look through their catalog, find a song where you didn't especially care for (or even didn't like) the original version, and then listen to the Pentatonix version to see how they "upgrade" (not just cover) the song.
Welcome to Pentatonix! They do a lot of current pop covers, plus their own originals, but for those of our vintage, I really love their versions of some older classics... Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, and a sensational mash-up of MJ's hits called The Evolution of Michael Jackson. They've had one member change in their 11 years, and the songs I've listed all have their original bass singer, Avi Kaplan. Definitely here for more Pentatonix with you! Liked and subbed.
If you like "Christmasy" you'll be blown away by their actual Christmas music. Try Over the River, or O Come All Ye Faithful for non traditional, joyful turns on overdone favorites.
Glad you enjoyed this, so many other wonderful surprises for you to find! Imagine, by John Lennon, All their Christmas songs, Making Christmas - it's a great fun video and an entrance to the holiday season as it's a Hallowean/Christmas crossover!
I enjoyed your reaction. Thank you for reacting to them. You may also enjoy their renditions of Hallelujah, Amazing Grace: My Chains Are Gone and The Prayer. Greetings from Tennessee 😊🇺🇸
I knew you would love them! Chillz!! LOVE PTX! They are impressive live as they are on video! Country music .. ? Check out the duet with Dolly in singing 'Jolene'! you have to check out 'Hallelujah' as well !! Big HUGZ!!
Pentaholics here!! Glad you have now started your journey down the rabbit hole. Your holiday season is gonna be fantastic. Until then, I agree with any suggestion made! Subbed for more!! 💞
"Wow!" Yeah. Very well done reaction. Please don't be worried about being at a lost for words sometimes, this amazing group tends to have that effect on a lot of us. Pentatonix is the stuff of legend. Haven't checked out the comments but no doubt other have warned you and I will repeat that the group's music label are known for blocking react videos. Any kind of filter will be fine. We're here to hear your thoughts. Oh, you got another sub. Take care all.
This is a great version, and your reaction, as usual, was fantastic! (Still love Disturbed's version better, but they do deserve a 10). Check out their version of Bohemian Rhapsody. Great stuff!
The first soloist is Scott Hoying, lyric baritone. The second soloist is Mitch Grassi, counter tenor, with a range of 6 octaves plus 1 tone (not counting his whistle tones). The third soloist is Matt Sallee, bass. The group's original bass, Avi Kaplan (whose lowest notes have been known to blow out amplifiers) had to leave in 2017 for personal reasons and helped the group find Matt as a replacement. Whenever the bass is taking a solo, Scott handles any necessary underlying bass notes. The fourth soloist is Kirstin (AKA Kirstie - rhymes with "thirsty") Maldonado, mezzo soprano and, as of September 28th of 2022, the proud mother of Elliana Violet (or Evie, for short). Mother and daughter are both doing well. The guy on the far right is Kevin Olusola, lyric baritone and beatboxer extraordinaire. He didn't solo because he was too busy being the entire percussion section, but when he does get a chance to sing he also has a beautiful voice. He also plays the cello and saxophone, speaks several languages including Mandarin, and went to Yale pre-med before he opted for a career in music. Before he joined Pentatonix he perfected the technique he calls "celloboxing," where he combines playing the cello with beatboxing - he has his own UA-cam channel where you can see the videos he posted of celloboxing, along with other things. It was through his UA-cam channel that the original trio (Kirstie, Scott, and Mitch) found Kevin when they decided they needed a bass and a beatboxer to round out the group and bring the number up to 5 so they could compete on The Sing-Off.
One of my favorites is the Christmas song "Thank You". Its friggin gorgeous.
@@dalantis8547 yes, and Scott wrote that, I believe.
@@G-grandma_Army yes he did
For your next Pentatonix reaction, do what you just did: look through their catalog (of hundreds of covers and originals), find one that you already know and love, then check out how Pentatonix has spun it.
Or if you're brave, a song that irks you and you don't like. They have been known to cure a few of those as well!
@@hernameispekka_Rebecca This. Both of these. Or just click randomly. No wrong answers from PTX.
Good advice, from all three of you. However, Salty, if you want specific recommendations we'll be happy to give them to you, just ask.
Those tones you loved so much are called "bell tones" (which is prolly why they sound "Christmasy"). Pentatonix are kings (and queen) of bell tones.
PTX are the kings and queen of pretty much anything musical, as well as videography, choreography, and otherographies.
I think the technical term is “arpeggios” 🤷🏼♀️
PTX uses bell tones a lot. And it works for them.
Kings AND QUEENS!!
They also fill out the music that instruments would really do
You're probably going to gravitate to Pentatonix singing the classics... Imagine, Bohemian Rhapsody, Hallelujah, Amazing Grace... I'd throw The Prayer (originally Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli) in there because it's a beeeeaaaaautiful belter if not a "classic". "If it's not an emotional song for you, ou're not intuned to the lyrics." Wise words and they apply to so much.

Pentatonix never misses. Pick a song at any point in their 10+ year career and you'll be impressed. Just subscribed!
Loving your videos. Pentatonix is one of my favorite groups. You should check out them singing hallelujah. Outside of them, I’d love to see you react to black thought’s freestyle on funk flex.
If you haven't already done The Prayer yet you should check it out
I'm new to this channel, so excited for more Pentatonix and Bo Burnham reactions!!
1000% agree. There is absolutely NO flaw is this arrangement OR the performance. None. This to me is their best work.
New PTX sub!!!!
Can’t wait for the journey through this rabbit hole!
~Pentaholic from Louisiana 🐊
They’re amazing!! I don’t even know which song to suggest! They’re all truly great! Maybe “the prayer” and of course “Hallelujah “, and “Imagine” .. the list could go on and on! Ya they’re fully acapella and they’re hard to beat! Great reaction! New Subscriber for sure!
Moore Pentatonix! All of their renditions of songs in my opinion are all upgrades!
I cant wait to watch you experiencing more Pentatonix mind-blowing performances. it's gonna be great 👍
More Pentatonix PLEASE!!! Subscribed.
Salty, I loved your reaction to this song. As many times as I’ve listened to it, I still get goosebumps.
I’m subbing in the hope that you will do more Pentatonix. Please consider Hallelujah, Imagine, The Prayer, Amazing Grace where they all get a solo. 💕
You would like Amazing Grace, imagine or the Prayer.
Lovely ✌❤
Surprise! They are truly amazing. Any I do any of their songs are amazing. Hallelujah is one of my favorites. Keep looking at them.
Please go down the Pentatonix rabbit hole!!! They are well worth it.
Imagine by Pentatonix is an interpretation that is truly needed in this world.
The Percussion (by mouth and hand) is electric!
Music truly is the world’s most universal language, RESPECT 🫡
Amazing song! Awesome reaction! Thanks ❤️ Much Love! #Hangovergang #Pentatonix #Sound of Silence
Try Dolly Parton and the Pentatonics doing Jolene
😊 *New Sub, hoping to take the Pentatonix journey with you!!* 😊
🔥❤️
From what you said after the video I think you'd really enjoy their cover of Mad World.
I'll check it out!
I just subscribed. Liked your reaction. I cant wait for you to react to more Pentatonix. They are amazing.
Great reaction. They are always perfection! They have not disappointed me yet. Checkbout Bohemian Rhapsody or Hallelujah 😉
Such a pleasure to see someone hear PTX for the 1st time, and get blown away. I'm subscribed so i will get notified of what's next. WTG :)
*Correction! Evie was born on JUNE 28th, not September! Brain glitch.*
Loved your reaction Salty!!! Pentaholic here😀😍 go down this rabbit hole cause u will enjoy 😍
Keep playing PTX. YOUR numbers will rise. ❤❤❤❤👏🤷♀️🙏🇬🇧❤️
you have just started down the rabbit hole. happy to be on the journey with you.
They are a great group of singers
They are so amazing. I was so happy to see them in St. Louis, MO. One of the best concerts ever!!
