As someone who has ministered in prisons before, I can confirm that there is something incredible about seeing hardened men melt in front of the Lord. When they are able to move past what they've done, and focus on what Jesus has done, the results are incredible. It's possible to be imprisoned in the physical but free in your spirit.
A lot of people have been telling me that i need to get this and i need to get that. And i won't be successful in life unless i accomplish this and that...but i never felt satisfied or at ease with the pursuit of these worldly things. I've only felt at peace when i got God's presence. Even Christians would give me advice that hinges on finances as the main priority...but i only want Jesus. Yes i know people would say "Oh but u still need money for this and that"...but i know that when i seek God, these things will come. Listening to this song only gives me a sense of peace that I'm not doing anything wrong by being different from my friends and family...that i'm not "foolish" for making my relationship with Jesus a priority. All i ever wanted was Jesus and he's all I'm ever going to want. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want....for anything. He provides for me and it is through him that I live. He gives and he takes away. I know that my relationship with Him is pure and I refuse to worry about tomorrow, or next week, or next month or next year...my only concern is Jesus. Whether I'm a Janitor or a CEO at a large company, I don't care about anything of this world. I just want Jesus...other things may satisfy for you but for me, only Jesus does. Just Jesus. It's all about Jesus. That's all I ever want, and once I have Him close to me, i don't care who thinks I'm foolish or in error or in rebellion...my only concern is what God thinks about me. ONLY JESUS.

Ah, tears during worship! Shouldn't that happen more often? Where is our true and deep grief for sin and lostness, mingled with gratitude and joy too strong for words? But it can also be distracting, so what's the answer? Years ago I took a singing/acting class from a guy named Wes Balk, who had devoted most of his life to the study of those things. The class was related to secular performance, but some of the things he said can be applied to worship I think. What he said about tears on stage was this: its not really the tears themselves that create the distraction and discomfort. Its our own fighting of the tears, trying to hold them back because of being ashamed of them. His idea was that that was the difference between sobbing and just flowing tears - sobs are the "hiccup" in way that happens when we try to push back the tears. So I think if we let the tears flow unashamed, the discomfort and distraction might go away. So for us, that has to do with vulnerability and trusting God. Yes, there probably will be someone in the audience who thinks you are just a big dork for crying onstage - but who do you trust? Is God's love enough for you, no matter what that person thinks?

Ah, tears during worship! Shouldn't that happen more often? Where is our true and deep grief for sin and lostness, mingled with gratitude and joy too strong for words? But it can also be distracting, so what's the answer? Years ago I took a singing/acting class from a guy named Wes Balk, who had devoted most of his life to the study of those things. The class was related to secular performance, but some of the things he said can be applied to worship I think. What he said about tears on stage was this: its not really the tears themselves that create the distraction and discomfort. Its our own fighting of the tears, trying to hold them back because of being ashamed of them. His idea was that that was the difference between sobbing and just flowing tears - sobs are the "hiccup" in way that happens when we try to push back the tears. So I think if we let the tears flow unashamed, the discomfort and distraction might go away. So for us, that has to do with vulnerability and trusting God. Yes, there probably will be someone in the audience who thinks you are just a big dork for crying onstage - but who do you trust? Is God's love enough for you, no matter what that person thinks?
