- Two sisters prepare to meet the prince.
MY SISTER AND THE PRINCE is used with permission from Joachim Morre. Learn more at joachimmorre.com.
Two sisters from a small, poor village are awaiting an audience with the prince. Only Signe will see the prince, but Marie is nervous as well. It's not often that they will get so close to royalty and power, and much is at stake for their village.
But when the protocol for the visit changes at the last minute, the girls adjust quickly, helping one another to make the meeting a success.
Written and directed by Joachim Morre, this elegant period drama captures the quiet but tense atmosphere anticipating a pivotal moment in two young women's lives. A beautiful girl, a prince, a dance: the ingredients of a fairytale moment are all there. But the storytelling focuses on the buildup before this pivot point, as the girls prepare for this life-changing opportunity. Instead of blissful romance, there are raw nerves and suspense.
The narrative is sumptuous to look at, with beautiful costumes and settings and moody, crystalline cinematography. The scale of the story is confined to one room (and a few shots of the exterior.) But the waiting room is magnificent in both decor and proportion, lending both grandeur and intimacy to the story. The overall feeling is one of restrained elegance and muted luxury, with a delicately symphonic score, a visual style that is reminiscent of Northern European painting in the 17th century and camerawork as graceful as the dance that the girls rehearse.
Within this opulent setting, the film is firmly focused on the two sisters and the ebb and flow of their emotions. Signe and Marie are close and connected, one supporting the other as Signe readies herself to take an audience with the unseen prince. Despite not seeing him -- but for a single fleeting shot of the palace grounds, where he is a small figure in the distance -- the prince looms large through the anxiety he exerts.
The two young women are nervous, their humble station emphasized by the luxurious setting and the distance between their commoner status and the prince's royal one. Played by actors Alba August and Asta August -- who are sisters in real life -- they have an intimate relationship, supportive but also striving. More importantly, they remind one another that they are worthy of even the prince's attention. When they discover the procedure to meet the prince has changed, the sisters change places emotionally, as Signe takes charge and reassures Marie that she will succeed. Then they practice their dance, stepping into this sense of worthiness and confidence.
MY SISTER AND THE PRINCE has more up its sleeve than meets the eye, and it takes Signe's fresh resolve and confidence into an unexpected direction, enlarging the intimate moment between two sisters into a more charged narrative about power and politics. It's a clever twist, subverting expectations about femininity and young women in general. And it leaves audiences wondering just what will happen next, and in high admiration for how resourceful, intelligent and fearsome these two sisters are. - Фільми й анімація
Wow, the way in the last scene you can see the sister think through everything that’s about to happen in the room and afterward and run through a bunch of emotions. Fantastic acting!
7:39 - and they take our food - and they take our land -
Just this two lines made me suddenly realize that there was something far more than just "I want to be a princess~"
Brilliant !!
The cut on the sleeves of the blonde sister sort of came to light at the end of the plot. They were doing the rehearsal to perfection that's why the blonde girl was so upset when there were some changes on the dance. What a great short film! Bravo!
Great observations!
@@erdelegy She probably thought that these two girls were from a desperate used-to-be-rich family trying to be rich and in power again by marrying a prince.
It’s a classic example of changing the exam pattern at the last moment, but if you have a focused goal you anyhow figure out the way. Kudos to the team, such a cool cliffhanger!
Indeed, this clip somehow reminded me of some exams I have been through. ^.^
Double indeed, both the actors and director are brilliant.
I'm more interested in seeing the moment she attack the prince.
Usually in movies it never goes according to plan, if we the audience have seen the plan
Same
Same. But acceptable ending. If it was a longer movie and we knew the stakes from the start (or at least longer) in which we were invested in seeing the assassination, yeah, I’d feel robbed. I think the plot twist reveal was more the point here. So I’m ok with it.
Why? Everything you needed to know was shown. The rest is just gratuitous violence. Oh yeah, I guess some people just like that.
@@pumpupthevolume4775 Not the violence, but the thrill and the tension. It's the action that I like.
I did NOT see that coming! A killer short, that's for sure!
A few minutes in and I knew exactly what was coming. 😔
Pun intended!
@@cahidijoyoraharjo7833 Pun 100% intended.
I did not get it till she says they took our land food etc
@@sofiedouglas757 Well, for starters, she wasn't really worried about her appearance like other the girls did. So there's definitely something more insidious going on there.
Oh my this was lovely! The buildup and the storytelling without giving too much away, leading all the way to the "twist". It's fantastic!
I figured the reason for the sister wanting to get close to the Prince real early but it didn't detract from this marvellously acted and written piece.. a big well done to the actresses and all the writers and crew etc.. I love the cliffhanger ending.. you just know that if they succeed nothing will change in terms of their land being given back etc and that both sisters and their people will suffer more because of their actions..
But people will remember their names.
Haha, I knew they had to be real-life sisters - what I didn't expect was for them to be literal filmmaking royalty!
Good thing I avoided scrolling down beforehand, hehe.
Came here to see this short because of Alba August. I adored her in The Rain, and this short was neither a dissapointment ;-)
something about the blonde sisters desperateness made me think it was about more than a marriage. great acting!
That brunette has some poise and courage in her face.
She was nervous at first, but in the end, she was the one who became confident and her sister nervous about the plan failing.
This language is insane, it is so beautiful
Aah! The last few minutes was eye opening!
Thank you for all you do to get these shorts to us🙏🤗
I knew it from the beginning when the sister said "you need to get closer" so good.
I love the blonde actress! Can't remember what I've seen her in but she's brilliant ❤
Probably The rain series, that's where I recognise her from
@@brendie7098 Her name is alba august and yes she does take part in the rain series
I was just about to comment she was on the Danish series "the Rain."
This deserved more views. Great twist, great camera uses, great acting, great costumes. I’d watch this if it was a full blown show.
I wonder if the sister knows she’s sending her sister in there to die, because even if she kills the prince, she’s going to be executed. But at least she’ll die for a good cause, maybe.
The blonde is in the show called the rain on Netflix and it’s an an amazing show, I honestly was pulled in by her acting in that show. She is a stunning actress.
LOVED IT - beautifully crafted, well acted - unexpectedly great
Why were there other girls coming out of the room with the prince and some had sour expressions on their faces, especially the one in the gold dress just before the sisters started to practice? Excellent film, beautiful set, costumes, and the actresses were perfection.
it was porbably a bride hunt for the prince and the others weren't impressing the prince enough, so got rejected hence they had sour expressions.
@@thevilonesfr Possibly; but around the time of the rehearsal, the older sister looked out the window and saw a man with his wife and a child. Was it the prince? So many interpretations!🤷♀️
@@sallywhite7678 have you noticed that they were shotting at birds? I thought it was a foreshadowing the sisters fate. They were ready to die as they won't be able to leave after assassinating the Prince.
@@sallywhite7678 The family outside may have been the sister's family. Brother-in-law, niece etc.
@@sallywhite7678 No, they were obviously dancing for the prince. The people outside were unrelated to what was happening in the room. It’s not hard to understand.
I wondered why the 16 bars mattered at all. Makes sense now!!!
Doesn't to me. What does it mean?
@@spicybrown75 the time length of the dance, with specific moves, ended with her final approach to the prince, and the slashing of his throat. If 16 bars were reduced she would be that many steps away from him.
Love movies with this type of settings.
And time paired.
The location is just as stunning as their acting 😍👌😍
‘You need to get close to him’ and the * excessive nervousness hinted at the real motive. The political complaints … ‘they take our food and our land ‘ gave it away
It didn’t give it away, it was build up to the reveal. Every plot twist needs some set up or else it just becomes an asspull
Asta August and Alba August? The actors are also sisters? That's perfect casting!
Daughters of Swedish actress Pernilla August and the very famous (Golden Palm-, Golden Globe- and Oscar-winning) Danish director Bille August.
im loving the historical shorts
I had a feeling that the prince was in for a rude surprise.Nice job!
SAW THIS COMING LIKE YOU HEAR AN OLD STEAM TRAIN...STILL STAYED FOR THE *CLIFFY*
Bravo! Truly fantastic acting in a great short film! I am so glad I stumbled on this website. I have seen some truly great films, and I thank you very much!
Ahh the lovely Alba Adèle August!! Possibly known to most for her Role in the Danish language Netflix Series The Rain. Which if you've not seen it, oh yeah a must watch personal opinion!!

What’s it about?
@@tsuyayaka1 Here I'll explain to the best of my abilities with no spoiling, I got you. The Rain is a series set in Scandinavia, having been struck with a Rain Carried Virus. You find two siblings coming from the security of a bunker... After then finding out most to all civilization is gone around them they seek join a group in search of any signs of life & anwsers for what's happened and why.
@@V12Nation oh wow. Okay thank you!
I'm just here waiting for Rasmus to come out and Simone yelling at him.
I had a feeling that was coming. It was so important to get it right, there had to be a reason...
Was too obvious early in, but the dance change and suspense that went with it made it worth while.
Damn!!! That was definitely a surprise ending!
It couldn't happen to a more deserving despot.
Am I the only one who seen that coming from the start?
Of course Clark you renowned film connoisseur.
I saw it coming which does not detract from the impact of this film in the least.
Nope. I knew they're trying to kill the prince the moment her sister said that she needs to get close to the prince.
No, but I did wonder if the blonde girl might betray her sister.
The girl in a blue dress, she's the actress playing Simone in The Rain Series.
So cool to see the main actress from Netflix "The Rain" in this short!
Thank Allen. Another gem 💎
This was some what predictable as the movie kept going. But, way to dangle the friggin' carrot at the last moment. "What happens next".
Omeleto, you never fail to deliver a great story with an incomplete satisfactory ending. We're left to use our imaginations.
You might already know--but just a fyi, Omeleto doesn't make the films. Check the description.
@@susans7606 I'm quite aware, the films are made by a variety of teams.
Whaaa, I wouldn't have expected to see the blonde in this. She's on Netflix the rain.
Sweet….. two thumbs up!! Didn’t see that coming
Ohh, a little treason to go with the dance. Interesting.
Fantastic. I would love to see more .
A fine example of a Paraprosdokian short. My favorite though was Groucho Marx for his humor. But this was a masterclass in how to subvert expectations. Bravo Asta y Alba
Bad plans girls, really bad plan! They'll never get away with it. - - - Great show!
They don't plan on getting away with it. They plan on being remembered.
Well written......well done!
Loved the ending 👏
Ps. And I’m of English lineage 😊
Darn, I wanted to see her dance with the prince. >.>
What do people call the dresses they have on
Alba August is fantastic in Becoming Astrid, a biopic about Astrid Lindgren (creator of the Pippi Longstocking)
Oh, boy, this deserves a few views for sure. "Lovely" twist! 🥳🥳🥳
I already knew what the twist is, the moment her sister said that she needs to get close to the prince.
@@cahidijoyoraharjo7833 Cheers, well spoted!
They didn't show what happened next:
The prince asked to see the person who taught her how to dance. Her sister came in. She fell in love with the handsome prince. They got married and lived happily ever after. The other sister killed herself.
What??? Seriously??
What? No?
LOL That is a messed up ending!
Lol, no. They are planning to assassinate the prince during the dance.
ADEL ZORERO: I LOVE YOUR ENDING BUT I HATE YOU FOR IT BEING SO GOOD ❤
Great film!
Omeleto scores again. Thank you!
Now my little Kendall is the only princess in the universe!

NOOOOOO!!!! Ugh. You’re killing me!!!
Part Deux!!!
I saw the ending coming.
in what language r they speaking?
This video is absolutely brilliant 👏 But, what happens next?! Ah! Sweet torture
Maaaaaatin!
And they were actually sisters, alba august i watched her from the rain on netflix.
Someone care to explain what does "16 bars shorter" mean? Does it mean that the dance ends earlier that they practised for?
Yes. They cut the song short.
Yes they just cut the end off
Thanks for the explanation :)
I don't know much about dancing haha. Thanks!
Basically they were really worried that the dance was changed to 16 bars shorter because in the initial length of the dance, the final steps would lead the girl and the prince to be close to each other, which would give the girl to the chance to slash his throat, since her and her sister’s initial plan was to kill the prince. But it worked out in the end because the girls found a way to adjust the dance so that they still get to slash the prince’a throat. Hope that helped
I saw that one coming. Not kidding.
Me too
🍪
It's a common twist by now. There are many more bizarre plot twists.
Me too
Great video, but the forever moving camera made me dizzy.
😳😳
Loved this! 😍👏🌹 Well done❣️
PLEASE Stay 'safe', everyone❣️ Blessed be🌛🌹🌜
i really wanted to see what happened
A mystery. Wondering what happened next. Hope there will be another episode. I can make up the end of the tale but I'd like to see how the creator of the tale wants it to turn out. I think the sisters win and gain influence and power to make change. On the other hand, maybe their plan is found out and they are punished. Which was not good in those days I think. The ruling class were not always kind. Seldom I think.
I know Danish when I hear it!
Holy crap 😳
Let’s hope she uses the sharp side of the knife when she does it for real👍 [sorry just call me Sherlock]
If ever you are obliged to cut a man's throat, Sherlock, I would advise against drawing the knife across, like they do in the movies (unfortunately, they are rarely allowed to murder the actors); instead, push the point of the blade into the side of the neck, and pull sharply forwards.
@@litterpicker1431 noted thanks, il use that for future reference🤫

Danish
Wow
I don't understand . If they kill him they would me killed also and so would their family. None of them would be able to keep their land .
Dayyyyyms 👏😁👌
Are they speaking Dutch? 🤔
Danish :)
Can someone tell me what is the point of the plot? I can't get it especially for the slit in her upper sleeve and also her face at the end ?
They are preparing the dance so the sister can get as close as possible to the Prince and slash his throat. The cut on the sleeve was probably an accident during their practice.
The cut at 2:12 must be from an earlier rehearsal
I thought the same. Older lady saw it and turned her head.
@@monasalim7986 Yes, and at 4:45 someone entered the ball room again, whereas the next candidate was already inside (as shown at 3:54). Maybe the older lady denounced them.
@@YuS-French who entered the room at 4:45? the blonde sister was still chatting with the older lady escorting the young lady, I understand that they told her about the decreased bars which necessitated a change of dancing plan.. The older lady never left the room, I think everybody would bless their plan, the prince looks like their usurper who is humiliating their women. what really surprised me is where she hid the knife?
