    Thank you for the video. I suggest you give AllBack Linseed Oil Wax as well (it especially since there are zero solvents and there’s no need to seal like briwax products; I use it for all my wife’s whitewash look needs. I have one room in the house that I can do what I want to with it and it’s “yes ma’am” from there on out 😂. I also use Allback Linseed Oil paints quite a bit and they have a great palette that’s also mixable and I don’t have to deal with all the other fuss. To be far, all my furniture and projects are finished exclusively with shellac, hard wax oils, linseed paints, rubio monocoat, and hand rubbed waxes. I only use milk paint where it’s period correct and most times linseed oil paint is just as period correct. So the milk paint is always going to be two differing coats like reds under black for example, but it’s neat to see all you can do with mixing as well. Thanks again for the video.

    • @diybeautify
      @diybeautify  5 років тому +2

      Sorry, I ran into some issues and needed to paint over it. Buffing is just rubbing it with a rag, this takes off any excess and lets it cure. I'll try to add some pictures so you can see the finished piece!

    so you don't have to strip the wood first? also, I am thinking of doing this to our kitchen table because it is so dark even after i have stripped it. does it protect well enough to be a kitchen table surface and or does it need some kind of sealant or does the wax seal it? Thanks for the video was very helpful for a new technique.

    • @diybeautify
      @diybeautify  5 років тому +3

      No stripping required. It is like a layer of soft white over the top, so you still see the grain...in fact, it highlights the grain, but tones down the rest. Because it is a wax, you cannot use any other kind of sealant over it. You will need to let it cure for a good 3 weeks before using table surface! This is after applying, buffing well (removes excess wax) and doing another layer or two if needed. If you don't buff the excess wax, it will take forEver to cure!

    Did your doors have a poly or varnish over the oak? I’ve purchased a 80s or 90s honey oak gigantic hood vent. It has a veneer but I think I understand most of the cabinets from this era are veneer.

    • @diybeautify
      @diybeautify  3 роки тому +1

      Yes it did have a varnish on it! Lightly sanding the piece is recommended for the wax to soak into the wood!

    Looks great, I’ve seen other videos where they recommend stripping the wood first and wire brushing to get the grains exposed to receive the wax and really highlight the contrast. The process was called cerusing, . I’m looking to do this on an old paneled room which is very dark now and we’d like to avoid painting it. Do you have any recommendation on the process for a large area like that. ?

    • @diybeautify
      @diybeautify  2 роки тому

      Thank u. Often in large rooms, the paneling isn't even real wood all over (ours wasn't). We ended up painting a soft gray and looks gorgeous. This is a very interesting process bc it looks different with every wood! Try it out on a small piece first to see if you'll even like the finished look. I imagine it would be very costly bc the liming wax isn't cheap! Maybe you could lightly sand and then whitewash to retain some wood grain but lighten it up overall.

    Your video ended abruptly. Shouldn't you have caught that before uploading? Also, the instructions on the can say to use apply sparingly & AGAINST the grain, not with it

      I'm glad you like the results! Ther trick is to wipe ALL excess wax from your piece. Let dry thoroughly and then reapply if you prefer it lighter. Once you're done, the wax will need to cure for about 3 weeks! I know it's a pain, but there's no way around it! Good luck 😊

      Thanks Ian, unfortunately there isn't one. I ran into issues with disguising the holes for the new pulls and ended up having to paint the piece!
