    I am building a drone for aerial photography. But i have got absolutely no idea about gimbal integration with the flight controller. I have watched almost every video on youtube related to gimbal setup. Still got no clear idea. Please help. Any help will be highly appreciated

    You know multirotors you'll know PIDs. There are very similar, if not the same types of settings when it comes to the gimbal control boards, you can observe them adjusting these parameters in some "Head tracking gimbal" videos. I suspect that's what the more expensive one is being effected by.

  • @reyzuna
    @reyzuna 4 роки тому

    I think your drone has no low battery warning to put your drone into auto RTH or to land it safely that is why your drone crashes knowing that it can't operate its board and the gimbal. And maybe it has no GPS signal and you manually operate it to prevent it from hovering away that is why it has a lot of jiggle? It has a lot of vibrating because it's in High Mode, Low Mode is where the drone can fly smoothly. Try using those gimbals on a non DIY assembled drones.

  • @davidkorn1988
    @davidkorn1988 7 років тому

    Hey AndyRC, you should add weight to the lighter gimbal to balance it out so it does not vibrate.

  • @power-max

    And lastly 12:27 if you want a 3 axis gimbal for real cheap, I think you can firmware upgrade, and make use of the 3rd axis on your current working gimbal once you swap out the controllers. You just need the mounting hardware. You have the gimbal motors you need from the other gimbal!

    Hey Andy, I know this video is 5 years old, but I'm thinking about using one of these, I like that the lighter, more expensive, one can pitch all 90 degrees down which is why I am considering it over the other. In the video, there was a whole bunch of jello that I would not want, but, as I have the Hero 7 black, do you think the Hypersmooth would erase all the jitters? Thanks

    I agree with the vibration comments, I was looking at these gimbals, I am wondering if they have been updated since you made this? If that is the case the heavier gimbal with newer board is a much better choice

    I've bought several of these gimbals, and have found that the screws need tightening right out of the box--- that's the 'play' you may find.. I use fingernail polish on the screws to hold them tight.

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  9 років тому

      +Jay Henry yes totally although i found even tightening those there was still play in them :( cheers

    I also have the gimball that was the more expensive one, I have had nothing but problems with it. Twitches uncontrollable,spins and just kills my battery so only get 6 mins max flight time. Tried everything to get it sorted but no joy at all so have gone back to the original camera holder for the phantom 1. The gimball is now in a box and will stay there.

    You need to mess with the PID settings and such with different cameras. To get rid of shakyness.

  • @DigitalN8v
    @DigitalN8v 3 роки тому

    Need to get a action cam with EIS or 4K and/or stabilize image in post production. That will totally compensate for the shakiness.

  • @power-max
    @power-max 9 років тому

    The difference seen in how fast they initiate is probably due to the settings. I recently disabled automatic calibration on the gyro on powerup. Now it is fairly instant instead of several seconds. I think the boards are the same, really as long as they are running the same processor and motor controllers, the board version (layout and such) should not make any difference. I think the reason why the 2nd one is not performing as well at 10:15 is that the PIDs are too high, or the power level.

    • @power-max
      @power-max 9 років тому

      Because the 2nd one is lighter weight, it takes less force to rotate around and correct for errors. So the PIDs need to be lower, since not as much correction force needs to be applied.

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  9 років тому

      +Power Max yes its the calibration on startup which causes slower start thx

  • @qumefox

    Really old video I know, but I can tell you this. If you want stability, mass is your friend. Newtons laws being what they are. More mass is going to take more energy to move, which means it's going to be less susceptible to vibrations, etc.

  • @quadcoptervision
    @quadcoptervision 8 років тому

    You need to tune the gimbals to suit the difference in weights of the two camera systems. Building a 3 axis gimbal from scratch (own design machined aluminium plate) - but with any of them you need to tune them and balance them - the xiaomi has a different weight distribution from the GoPro as has the mobius - for the mobius the scratch settings would probably be a bit on the high side. So these gimbals would both definately benefit from a good tuning for each camera system.

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  8 років тому

      +Victor McAuley yes that is correct. however this is an out of the box test. since this video I have reviewd in depth a storm32 based 3 axis gimbal.

    16:00 Ha, I had the same total twitching/freaking out behavior out of my gimbal for awhile, it was intermittent and I assumed it was that the software / calibration issue but when I hooked it to the computer and I noticed thousands of 12C errors piling up. That generally indicates a hardware issue. The sensor used, the MPU6050 communicates the data from it over the 12C bus and upon inspection I noticed the green LED was kinda flickery. As it turns out, what had happened is that the ground connection wire broke internally, luckily that was a quick and easy repair to resolder the wire to the connector where it was partially broke.

      I did crash mine (cheaper, heavier variant) a while back and smashed everything including it to pieces, I was able to hammer out most of the really bad bends in the material. It will never be as good as new again, but it is still alive and kicking! (though now all the bent portions have accumulated metal fatigue and no where near as strong as before. Certainly will not survive another horrible crash like that.)

      +Power Max I re calibrated mine after the crash and it seems to work now

    I think that the horizon while yawing problem is caused by the firmware.
    I've got the Martinez board and it did the same with an older firmware.
    You will have to tune the PID settings on it for differed cameras.

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  9 років тому

      Greg Sobieski the pid values do not affect the horizon it is the imu accuracy that gives a good Horizon I have since discovered that you need a spirit level when calibrating the external sensors

    • @mr_sheen_asg
      @mr_sheen_asg 9 років тому +1

      Yes, you are right, I should have mentioned the PID in another comment.
      The firmware update fixed the horizon.
      The PID settings depend on the camera used (waight).

    I s there a way to install this on a bugs 3 and be able to use the tilt control? Can you tap in to the receiver or would you have to use a separate receiver and transmitter, like a flysky fsi6? You would then need a second person to control the tilt, which would be too bad if you were just taking video or pictures. Thanks a million for sharing.

    Just a question, I have seen a cheap gimbal where motors are housed which comes with 5 individual 1pin servo cables. I have read that that it enough to power and control tilt once you connect to the NASA Controller inside. Whats your view on this or anyone?

    Hi! First of all, thank you for your videos! I bought that cheaper one from this video. Could you give me some advice? I connected gimbal through APM andgimbal works great! I use potentiometer on my controller to change the position of Pitch. When I change the angle by potentiometer, camera fixes the view relatively to the body of the copter, but I want it to be fixed on the direction of camera view. I mean when I change the angle, camera starts to follow the drone, if it goes backwards, it camera smoothly goes up, then when it flies forward - camera goes down. Do you have any ideas how to fix this? Thank you

    Hey Andy, wonderful review! I was intrigued by your use of the Mobius as I have a Firefly Q6 I am looking at putting a gimbal on. Something that came to mind that I have not seen anyone do (and thus figure there may be a good reason for), is mounting the gimbal to the Quadcopter 90 degrees counter clockwise looking down, so the pitch becomes the roll and vice versa. This would give a much easier mounting platform for the Mobius/Legend/Runcam 2/Firefly Q6/808 form factor, it would equalize the weight side to side, and adjusting the front to back would be far easier by giving ample room to pull it forward. Any thoughts anyone?

      hi there. just quickly. you need to use a channel on your transmitter that uses a variable switch. not a standard on/off switch. then its corresponding channel on your receiver using a link wire from that channel RX output. connect it to the gimbal. look at the gimbal control board. you will see a block of pin connectors. ( some have 4 some 8 some 6 in various layout. but the connection is standard. look at the pins face on from the side of the board. the top row!! the left hand pin is pitch and the on beside it is roll. best not to use roll as you want it to stay level anyhow. sometimes this can be reversed but only use the top row of pins. and start with the furthest left pin.

  • @WeBeGood06

    You didn't use the light weight isolation grommets, you called them really weak as in they would take out all the vibrations you are seeing with the stiff grommet. You should have used the isolation grommets with better dampening, the weak ones, with the light weight gimbal

    The cheaper one tkaes longer to initialize because it is probably set to calibrate its gyro in startup, that takes a while and makes a huge difference in startup time.
    Had the same "problem" with my gimbal when i got it.

    • @muh1h1
      @muh1h1 9 років тому

      muh1h1 Also i am 99% sure you can revive the "broken" gimbal by conecting it to your PC and editing the settings. It has probably lost its PID settings. That has happened to me also after a crash.
      also never try to use a gimbal without a camera on it. if it is to lightweight, that "twitching" is actually normal, because it dows not have anything weighing it down.

      Have to remember when buying a pre fab quad that it is set up for the components that come with it. Any additions could result in balance issues, motor strain and/or reduced flight time. I wouldn't recommend adding anything on to it. Better to build from scratch and build a quad that can handle the extra weight.

    • @AndyRCchannel

      +XtremerJay no they are too heavy for a brushed quad. you need a 330 or bigger to lift these.

    can i convert it into 3 axis? I already bought an extra brushless motor for the gimbal and I want to make it 3 axis. I'll just put header pin on the YAW part of the board to connect my yaw motor? is this right?

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  7 років тому

      you would need a board that supports 3 axis the one mine came with didnt

    • @ragirate535
      @ragirate535 7 років тому

      what do you mean? My gimbal board is only for 2 axis but I saw a part on the board that I can put header pin for my yaw

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  7 років тому

      this video is 2 years old so mine didnt have any headers for a third axis so you will have to do trial and error to see if it works.

    Hello, i have the cheap gimbal and unfortunately i changes it's original settings (it's a long story...). Since I've done that i couldn't get it to be stable with my mobius on.
    Can you post the settings of the chep gimbal so i could try them on my gimbal ?

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  8 років тому

      the mobius doesnt work on this gimbal. u are better off getting a xiaomi yi camera its a better form factor doe the weight.

    • @yargnad
      @yargnad 8 років тому

      I consider the Mobius to be a superior form factor in almost all respects and far lighter. I have never used brushless gimbal before and I am not sure why it wouldnt keep any cam attached to the base level.

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  8 років тому

      you are correct on almost every point except the "far lighter" bit. it indeed is far lighter however this is its issue on a gimbal. a gimbal requires a certain amount of weight to counterbalance its corrections. the mobius is too light for the gimbal to do an effective job. and thats why u dont see any decent mobius gimbals.

    • @yargnad
      @yargnad 8 років тому

      Would it help to put a 50 gram brass base on the gimbal before I attached the Mobius?

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  8 років тому

      u can try but i never had much luck with it. the mobius has a sensitive shutter too which shows more vibrations than other cams so even putting the mobius in a gopro type case didnt fetch good results. you will save a lot of money in the long run buying a yi camera
