  • In this video we build a tree swing for our daughter.
    I have had this board for about two years now and i always knew i wanted to build her swing out of whatever was uncovered underneath. Originally i thought it was a piece of oak, but quickly realized it was something else once i cut into it. It looks like either some type of maple or birch.
    the seat itself is pretty basic which allows the hardwood to be the focus.
    we used a nylon rope which is great for her, but since it stretches its not right for adults...if need be i can tweak it later.
    enjoy!

    This is so cute! My kids have been asking my husband for a swing but they were too expensive to buy one! My husband made this for my kids and they love it! Thank you for this! ☺️

    I had to cut down this kind of swing last year. A neighbor's child tried to quickly craw under the swing as someone was riding it. The wooden seat struck her brawl and caused a considerable cut. I recently put up a new swing, this time I used an old tire as the base. Am sure this will have less blunt force. The child who got hurt comes to swing on the new swing. (They are still friends with my daughters) then again coming to think , it's all part of growing up isn't it? Also notice how sharp that edge is.

      Agree with the sharp edge. OP might not realize that the swing will "swing around" once a kid gets off, and hit the kid. Happened to mine more than a few times. I ended up changing mine out using a lighter board (common board from Home Depot) and used a router with a round over bit to take off the edges. I saw in the video they are all sharp edges.
      Also, I read that boiled linseed oil is more for indoor applications, not outdoor. Not an expert there, though.

      we used polypropylene braided rope. it has some stretch to it, so if you want something without stretch try Twisted Sisal Rope Twine. both can be purchased at big box home centers.

      @@BasemeantWRX thanks a million . I had an 8mm polypropylene braided rope with steel wire core and it broke over time with a tree knot (within a month and a half!!!). It is for a 8 meters high tree and for a trapeze for a 7yo child. Climbing is not an option so I am trying to find solutions that can be done from the ground. My guess is to use double rope and braid it so it becomes one after the tree loop to skip the knot, other idea is cable (which I am concern it hurt the tree). If you have any other suggestion I would appreciate it.

    How many ft of rope did you use?

    • @BasemeantWRX
      @BasemeantWRX  3 роки тому +2

      It was probably about 40 feet per side. Looped around the tree and back down.
