Another fun video. Way to go Lock Lady, quite the professional and glad y'all are laughing along the way. Sam if your like me it takes 3 seconds for my knees to loosen up :-) Best wishes you two.
As you pulled into Lock-6 I could see Saint Luke's assisted living center on the other side of the parallel highway (Route 57). That is notable for me as many of my ancestors have left this earthly realm from within that building! (Never fear, they were all well into their 80s and 90s). Thanks again for the video.... I'm from that area but haven't been back in decades. Arizona suits me fine, spend a winter up there and you'll understand.
I didn't start watching until after most of the locks last time - but sure heard about them. Y'all seem like pros now (or at least Rev does). I bet the first time through there wasn't as much laughing when things weren't going just right.
Benn several times at Oswego Marina. Really nice people. You can even get a fishing charter. There used to be an excellent restaurant adjacent to the marina and on the seawall. Looks different now. Just FYI - Oswego has a college and the most bars per capital in NYS 30 years ago. Not much to do in the winter with 30 feet of snow! LOL 👍😁
You often find ways to make things exciting! I like the rapport you have with the lock tenders Rev. You get them on your side right away, I am sure they like that. Of course Sam set the stage by communicating with them well ahead of arrival time, I am sure that helps to get them on your side too.
Rev, I have to agree with you when it comes to Sam's choice of songs. Gordon Lightfoot has many other great ones. Clearly you are not superstitious like some I know. I once had a deckhand throw out a perfectly good bouquet of flowers that was given to me .I also have a friend who purchased a dragon boat for their transit through the Orient - he was First Mate on a ship...
The locks at Oswego used to freak me out. I don't like heights and on my flybridge in that aqueduct between locks. Well I thought the sea wall was a bit small. You have to be there.
Odd that you had a wind out of the east. Port side locking maybe better? I've been there with a full lock of boats and a single screw I/O engine. No thrusters. Here is the story. I was with another couple and we were going from Sylvan lake to Oswego for a weekend cruise. We had a group of eight boats and got locked up clear all the way on the Oswego river. Wind was bad out of the East and I wanted to dock on the west side of every lock. Single screw with a flybridge. 1st lock on the Oswego river, I was last in line so had no choice but to lock on the east wall into the wind. It took me 5 minutes to wiggle her in while this 30 foot sail boat skipper was yelling and swearing at me. I kept my cool and passed him to get into the next lock before him. He had a low profile sail boat with mast down. I'm sure he was running a 16hp diesel with a rudder. Next lock I got in before him and took the west wall. It took him 15 minutes to tie up on the east wall and he hit 2 other boats in the process. My friend really laded into him. I hope it humbled him a bit. I was never on my boat for conflict. Just a calming adventure. I held my temper. I am more concerned with the safety of my crew and visitors. Anyway, Carma is a bitch. Best wishes boating.
If you want to do some weight training, you should look at the TRX system. It is resistance training with your own body weight. You wouldn’t need to lug heavy weights on your boat.
Really enjoy following. Thank you guys for taking the time to put the videos together and share. Just curious what an average lock delay time would be for trip planning?
I wished I had known your route and if you were doing the western side of Lake Michigan, I would have met you in Green Bay, Wisconsin and taken you 30-40 minutes West of the city to Carver Boat works to the factory where your beauty was hatched. And also taken you to the Great Lambeau Field... And helped if you needed provisioning..I will email you my number in case you get this way again...
I was going to post along these same lines no pun intended lol. Use your cleats on the boat instead of trying to use brute strength, just never ever cinch the line around the cleat only drape the line under the cleat and hold on to the rope keeping it taunt .
@@WhatYachtToDo at 38:50 you looped the line from the end and the line ended up all twisted...Start from the cleat side and loop to the end of the rope...no twisting!

Mmmmm bonbons ... should be a reward for every lock!💕
Oh yes!
Oh yes, school was fun. That's how you get experience on a boat.
😊

So glad you are enjoying the journey with us 😎
Come on kids run a line to the mid ship cleat around the ballard and feed it as the boats descends
Lines too big for our cleats 😟

Experience is a great confidence booster!
Rev, use your boat hook to help push you off the wall. You get more leverage than using your hands. 💕
Yes, sometimes it's just easier to use your hands! 😎

Good to know! Thanks for watching and commenting! Sam
Mississippi is a much more accurate count...LOL You guys are great together...!!! Great job in the locks!
Thank you!! Great to have you onboard. 😎

Lock tenders are great folks. Always helpful. A special breed.
Teamwork makes the dreamwork.

Yes, I keep telling him that. Have a great day! Rev

For sure! 😎

Best wishes boating.
Great story! Best to lay back and keep calm. Good Job!
Lol!!! It looks like that was a tough 11-mile day! I am so glad you made it safely to your destination.
Yes it was! Thanks!
I wonder if a 5th wheel pin puller would work well for hooking the cable.....might be too short...but you can sure pull on them
Don't know 😏
Doing the locks with bon-bons sound good!
Definitely the quote of the day.
Should be the new gold standard!

Good idea. 💪
Sam, you are lucky to have married a woman with a great laugh! Heres to Us has a great deck crew😀. Congrats on surviving the wind.
Thanks. She's the best!
I sure do enjoy your videos! Thanks so very much!
You are quite welcome!

Sometimes no delay, but on the average maybe 15 minutes?
Can you take a couple of wraps around the rail to act as a pulley system and you wont have to pull so hard, if the rail is strong enough
Might try that!
You two are the best. Cute as a button.
Thank you!
Try going up river in Lock #3. Isn't like 47 feet? Trust me, it's a pain.
Yes!
If there is no one with you in the lock, you don't need to keep it so tight.
We found that out!

That would be great!
You are prepping your line from the wrong end. Start 5-6' from the cleat then loop the line until you reach the end...
Hi Steve, trying to understand this... What minute in the video are you talking about?
I was going to post along these same lines no pun intended lol.

Are those lines in the lock attached at the bottom?
No, they have weights on them, not attached.
She said it was going to be a starboard tie and then moves everything to port???
Yes confusing!
No way I would turn off my engines
👌
