  • Tactile Turn makes some very nice, but expensive, high-quality metal pens. But it wasn't until now that both their side click and bolt action pens were available in slim versions... So in this video, I share my thoughts, contrasting them with their thicker predecessors.

You did such a great job diving deep into the features of these pens!

I fell down a pen rabbit hole and ended up with the Tactile Turn Standard Bolt Action Pen, the Tiscribe Go, the Machine Era Pen in brass and stainless steel, and several fountain pens including the Schon Dsgn Pocket 6 in faceted brass and the Twsbi Eco and the Lamy 2000. All of these pens are wonderful with their own pros and cons but at the end of the day I've found that when I want a pen that feels premium and that will write very well and very consistently with no issues and very little maintenance, nothing beats the Machine Era Pen in Stainless Steel. It's a hair lighter than the brass and the lustrous finish stays around because steel doesn't patina. The threads on the stainless steel are smoother than the brass version and I find myself capping and uncapping the pen by just giving it one twist at the beginning and letting it fly close on its own. Super satisfying. Pilot G2 0.7 cartridges are my fave and this pen fits them beautifully.
Great review and video. I'm now a subscriber.

Awesome suggestion I have their pens in brass and DLC black, but I’ll have to check out the stainless too 👍 Thanks! I’m glad you enjoy my content ✌️

This was a great little review. Next time I would defiantly let us hear what the action sounds like.

    Thanks for the review!
Question: How stiff is the clip on the slim? I had one of the full-sized bolt actions, and the clip was nice and springy. The slim ones look more stiff, but that may be just appearances. My worry is that the stuff clip with struggle going onto thicker pants pockets.

How does the weight compare between the three metals? Does one feel more comfortable than the others?

Debating my first EDC pen and this looks to be the one. Either the slim or the standard version. Is there a difference in ink refill compatibility? I don’t even know which refill to buy or anything, I’m just trying to get into the pen game 👀😅

They have a compatibility chart on their website. Scroll down on each pens page and you’ll see it.

The refill you can use is determined by the pen length. The short (middle size) fits the Parker style refills and the standard (longest length) fits Pilot G2 refills. I would recommend starting with the Pilot G2 refill. It is the most popular gel refill in the world, writes smoothly and consistently and never fails. If you prefer Parker refills, the Parker gel is also very good. I wouldn't recommend the short. It takes a low ink capacity mini Pilot refill. Lastly I own the titanium side click, the bronze bolt-action and the no longer available Mover clicker model in stainless steel, all in the regular diameter, standard length with the Pilot G2 gel refill. Some early reviews of the slim side click model said it's not as reliable or smooth as the regular diameter model. They may have worked out the kinks on the current model being shipped. I hope this helps. Good luck. Btw, these are premium, all metal (no plastic), machined, very high quality and nearly indestructible pens that will last multiple lifetimes. Well worth the $99 price IMO.

Nice but much too expensive for me.

Fair enough. It took me a long time looking before I eventually bought one - and at that price, they certainly aren't for everyone.

Oh wow, you have a notebook that requires you to use Frixon cartridges? Just change the book! Those friction erasable inks are the driest and least reliable refills I've ever used!
