This is my favorite razor. If i want an aggressive shave i take the guard off and replace it with a stainless washer, kind of becomes a shavette at that point. Nice mild razor that in a flash can literally become the most aggresive de razor on the planet. You all can keep your r41 lol
Thanks, JAkE G.:) I appreciate the tip although, for me, the Tech Ft Handle is aggressive enough. However, I have buffer rings from my PAA Ascension razors which would at as a washer should I decide to try this.:)
Hi Mark- Great shave today; thank you! I echo your sentiments concerning the Gillette Tech Fat Handle! I was able to pick one up from Razor Emporium that was revamped in nickel and it is just pristine. What a pleasure to use. It’s also nice to have something that is probably seventy years old and to still be able to use it as if it was bought yesterday! Just amazing! Please take care and have a good start to the week. All the best!
Mike, that's awesome! I can imagine tht your razor looks stunningly beautiful!:) And thanks for mentioning Razor Emporium. I may just contact them down the road to have this razor re-plated.:) It's in good shape, but the cap could be better.:) Thanks again!:)
Nice Mark, enjoyed that. So neat shaving with such an old razor. They look great. I am waiting for our big local antique market to open up and I'll see what they have. I am putting Col Conk on my list 👍
Antique markets are the best! I can spend days in those! Good hunting!:) Let us know if yiu come across anything. I suggest you get the Gillete date code page at: www.badgerandblade.com/forum/wiki/US_Gillette_Dating_Information Bookmark it on your smart pone in case you come across a vintage Gillette.:) I've been using Col. Conk's all week. I've been getting some VERY good three pass shaves!:) I simply have to order more!:)
I just picked up a 1946-1950 Fat Handle tech in gold at an antique store for $10. The plating on the top of the cap is gone, but I'm not bothered about it. It was looking kinda rough, but I went after it with some Nevr-Dull wadding and ten minutes later, it looked basically brand new aside from the plating loss on the cap, and even that shined up to a gorgeous brass color. I'm going to pick up some Barbacide tomorrow for a soak and then load it up with an Astra Platinum and see how it compares to my 1948-1950 Super Speed that I scored a few weeks ago at another antique store for $12. Best shaves I've ever had, no comparison. Just need to find a good deal on a vintage open comb next, lol.
Ed, terrific find! Congratulations!:) The Tech with the Fat Handle is a wonderful razor!:) I especially enjoy the knurling on the handle. It's a bit more ornate than the regular Techs.:) Mine, as mentioned in the video description, is from 1938. Curious to know if yours is similar.:) Love these razors!:) I have to pull it out again and pop in a Polsilver blade.:)
I got a mail call today , I won a PIF on the Shave Den Fourm . In there was a 57’ SS a 1932 fat handle tech (made in Canada) and a glass Avon StageCoach Vintage AfterShave
Thanks man! Really appreciate it!! =]. I remember first watching your channel when I had just one razor and Proraso Red lol! Look at me now I got 1930’s Gillette “NEW” LongComb 1932 fat tech 1957’SuperSpeed (regular) 1964 Slim Adjustable 1969 black beauty 1976 Schick gold and black Krona And a classic samurai Shavette 😎✌️
I don't know how a pre-WWII Tech can be dated exactly. Most had the standard fat handle, all have the triangular slots in the guard, they could be plated in nickel or gold. There is no logo on the cap, the etched diamond logo didn't appear until after WWII. An interesting thing I've noticed is the top caps on the early Techs were basically the same as "The New" long comb top caps. The base metal was red brass which you can see on the caps of the early gold techs that had bad plate wear.
Excellent to hear!:) These vintage Gillette Techs are great razors! I'm sure you'll enjoy using the fat handle.:) Feels great in the hand.:) A nice change from the standard ball end handle.:)
At a funeral I talked to a guy who works for Gillette in Boston, and all he could talk about was the superiority of their cartridge razors.
Curious to know what department he worked in...marketing?:):)
@@MarkSzorady I don't recall.

@@mikerose51 Really nice!:) Great to hear!:) As I've said, a great time to be doing the traditional wet shave!:) So many options and so much choice!:)
What a great little razor...put a feather in it....don't get the usual razor burn from the blade in it....

I agree with your points about fixing an exact date. However, the seller told me the razor was from 1938.
He may be wrong, he may be right.:)

Just purchased this today for about $30.00. It has a gold finish but I still might get it replated.
Nice!:) Enjoy!:I have a gold Tech. I'm not re-plating. Just keeping it the way it is. It gives it a bit of character. However, to each his own.:)
A friend of mine has one and wants only $10 for it . I am going to get it . He say it is from 1950 . Thanks for the video
