Thanks for saving me $. I picked up that pair of 5.25" SL 10 SS 2001 bookshelf speakers for only 45 bucks from an older guy that didn't want to do a re-foam. Spent another 20+ for the refoam kit and voila! they're as good as new.
Thanks Bob! I meant the outer plastic ring. I wound up getting it off by using an exacto knife and continually scoring around the edge. Each time the blade would go deeper and eventually loosen the glue.
I am about to purchase a reform kit as my old Infinity Sm112 speakers just started a slight vibration.....took the fabric covers off and the foam around the woofers have flacked away...hope this will fix them....
Could you give me the name and description of that speaker?, somebody gave me that speaker but I don’t know anything about it and I can’t find it, thank you
Hi there, great video. I have the exact same center speaker and am about to try the foam replacement. Can you tell me how you got the plastic ring to separate from the speaker itself? I don't want to exert too much force and dramage the ring or the cone. Thanks!
metsjets I'm not sure what you mean. I never removed the plastic center cone. And since it is fairly durable, I think I used alcohol and a small putty knife or scraper to get the last of the old foam ring off the cone surface.
metsjets Oh! You mean the plastic ring that holds the speaker in? I think it is just glued on. Just pry it carefully. Maybe warm it up a little with a hair dryer or something might help.
Great vid. I notice that they say not to put the glue on the foam, that it will wrinkle it. Does that mainly apply to the white glue? I see you did it successfully. Did you spread the glue with your finger before putting the surround down? THX
I don't think I spread it out. I'm pretty sure I just flipped it over and pressed it down. But its been a few years so I'm not 100% sure. I didn't have a problem with anything wrinkling.
I found that it takes some patience remove it from the frame. I used a thin flathead screw driver to pry the plastic cover off by gradually working all around. It has tabs but also it seemed to be glued - possibly from the foam.
Just to be safe I would remove the center cap and put a plastic sheet between the magnet and the coils, the plastic sheet diameter should be roughly the size of the magnet and it should fit snug between the coils and magnet. If you pull one side of the cone while gluing you will regret not shimming it.
What is the model of this speaker? Is it actually a 5.25 or 5.5 speaker? Just want to make sure I get the right kit. I can’t find the model on the speaker anywhere. Thanks .
Elisha Lott I still have mine but I don’t see a number on it. You could measure the diameter and talk to the dealer to double check but I think it was 5.25

BAD idea gluing both edges of the surround at once like you did. The result was a very uneven attachment on the cone. Your foam surround doesnt follow the old glueline AT ALL in places. You do the attachment to the cone first,...focus like crazy on just that attachment and getting it into a perfect circle. THEN you tackle the attachment to the frame.
Appreciate the video and the desire to help others, but where's the PROOF?!You didn't play any audio through them at the end, to show that your method keeps the voice coils alignment true, and there isn't any rattling.This video is like showing how to rebuild an engine, then not showing it running afterwards!
Sorry dude. I just made the video to help people know the process. Simply Speakers have plenty of videos showing how easy it is to align. Especially on a speaker this small, it centers itself easily.

You didn't show how you trimmed it
Sorry, I just used regular scissors and trimmed a very small amount. You can see the trimmings on the table at 1:20
