- This series of videos is designed to get you into the FPV Drone Hobby by keeping things simple. In this episode I explain the differences between Digital FPV and Analog FPV. If you are just starting in the hobby you have to select one (choose wisely). In future episodes I'll give you suggestions for Goggles, Drones, Radios, Chargers.

CORRECTION - In the video I said the prescription lenses are not available for the DJI Googles. That is incorrect because DJI and other companies now offer a basic prescription lens option.
I love how you explain every bit of detail to us like we’re 5 year olds. THIS IS WHAT I NEEDED!!! I’m super happy I found your page.... FINALLY someone who can break things down easily.
I want to go digital. I'll go tell the boss to pay me more right now. Its for a good cause boss. I'm going digital.
I highly recommend to start with analog. Crashes DO happen. Learn to fly first, then about upgrading. These FPV race/freestyle quads do not fly like a DJI mavic, really, they don't...
Another thing, do people new to this hobby realize it's the Gopro on top that gives the nice HD footage you see al over youtube?
I can imagine no one want a analog system when they think only to have crap footage in the end
Thank-you for putting the series together, Cap! This is exactly where I am at. I've been flying Camera drones for a few years, and teaching that and coding with drones to 4th & 5th graders. I've been wanting to try real FPV for a while, and expose my students to it, but had no idea where to start. You're helping Me to understand it much clearer, and that will impact my students as well. Thank-you so much!
That is awesome!
As a fairly novice camera drone enthusiast, I am officially intrigued. My wife "thanks" you for this.......... 😁👍
Clear, concise, informative and entertaining. Thanks Steve! Made my choice, now looking forward to video #3.
Killer intro, Captain !
This is gonna Rock. Oh yeah , I think I heard a shot of Tom Sawyer there a second ago !
Right on !
Wulfy
This is perfect, I've been diving into starting the FPV journey, especially because my daughter loves all things that fly, I figured it would be a fun hobby for us to do together. But I understand the basic concept of Digital versus analog, but not in the context of drones. This was so helpful and will help me down the line for sure as I start to purchase components to get started flying.
Glad it was of help.
Thank you for all these details. I was thinking of digital, but I now understand there's a lot of limitations.
Great stuff man. Just into 2 episodes and you have taught so much. I have a Mavic Mini (2 weeks) and love it. I am thinking of going into FPV but did no a thing about it, until now. Talk about perfect timing. Thanks again
Never disappointed, Cap. I’ve already watched several of your vids, then While I’m doing homework on FPV drone, words digital and analog keep popping up, so I just UA-cam it, guess who’s video came up on top?
Thank you, Cap!
Awesome, a full series on going!
Been following this since yesterday 😊
Hope you enjoy it!
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 i am. Hopefully i can build mine after this series. Thank you in advance for walking as through
Omg Steve O, what am I gonna do now? I just got into drones and back to RCs. Now I’ve started to fall In love with these wicked machines. I just watched that fpv that you flew @ 140kph!!! I am still in disbelief. It literally looked like you were flying a FPV rocket!! I am going broke...lol scary but true but it’s the best hobby to get into by far. I am torn, I want you to keep this series coming but I will have to go into debt.😩😃😂 love the channel keep it coming.
Thank you!
It's not often you find a hobby that the choices are almost entirely based on budget but for me I think this epitomised the saying, you get what you pay for
its been my stress reliever looking at your videos captain....thanks a a lot
My pleasure
The second installment of what's promising to be a great series ! Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule Steve. Nice teaching skills 👍
More to come!
Another great comparison and I'm leaning with the digital option. Thank you for taking your time to put this together.
Glad it was helpful!
Just been watching and the upload time is like 6 pm here.🙃🙃😉
As for digital the only issue I have is the "eco-system" "trap".
I won't be making the switch till it's as versatile and modular as analog. And as of now, the latency problem is not a big deal for me.
Thanks for the information I’m screaming Digital but my bank is saying analog 😂
LMFAO word
Happy Canada Day !!
Thank you!
I've been flying analog for 3 years, and finally ordered the DJI setup during the Father's day sale they just had. It's time for a change.
They certainly had a great deal on the FPV gear.
Thank you very much for this playlist. It is a huge help and looking forward to my first FPV purchase. Great quality and valuable information!
Awesome tutorial. While I won't be getting into the FPV drone Hobie, because of not being able to feel my right side much, it's still interesting. My grandson is actually thinking about it. I'll stick to my DJI for my channel. Thank you again for all the info, I learned a lot.
Love your videos! Not really interested in fpv drones but I love to learn about them and you do a fantastic job making things easy to understand. Excited for the next video!!
I appreciate that!
Very good. Thank you for explaining this. I was wondering what FPV really was.
Rick Britton, Great job CAPTAIN DRONE, If we get another stimulus check, I'm definitely getting wiser, to understanding what it takes to start investing into FPV hobby, Thank you for taking the time to help, people like me, Sincerely Rick from Mo and God bless you and your family
Glad to help
I'm gonna have to get into FPV sometime soon, just gotta build up some funds for all the crashes first!
Great explanation between the two..good work, looking forward to the next video
Very promising series. When does an interest become a hobby, become an avocation, then an addiction, and finally a chore?
Hey man just starting to watch this series and am really enjoying It I'm just about to buy my first 5" and these videos are really informative thanks man youve earned a sub
Welcome aboard!
It's a race quad Steve! Lol! multigp.com is the best place to start! Go to a race and watch pilots fly the course and talk to them about the hobby! It's a fun sport that's growing slowly, but it must be approached with safety & caution...racing a flying lawnmower at 80mph+ around race gates can be dangerous! Bring a pair of Goggles to a race, you may just hurl!! Ottawa Muliticopters is the chapter for you and Andre'! Please support your local hobby shops!
I had to pick one name to keep things simple, which is "drone". Quadcopter, Quad, Race Quad, Freestyle Quad would just be too confusing to people getting into the hobby and around the world people use different names... but all governments call them Drones, so I stuck with that.
I honestly like Captain Quad better! Just bustin' chops, trying to "keep it real"for your audience. Many guys that I race with, can't stand the term "Drone". DRL changed that for some. When I think "Drone", I think of the Predator war drone, or a DJI product. I own 1 Photography drone and 30+ FPV racing quads. multigp.com
👍. Thanks Captain. The Best mini series I have watched all year.
Wow, thanks!
a hello from the neighborhood, i stumbled on your channel when looking for an affordable drone and now watching your FPV series, enjoying it!!! ...I'm in Ottawa, Beacon Hill area haha kudos amigo, great content!
Hey neighbour!
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 👍❤
great series so far. just the info I needed. Please great tune at the beginning what is it please.
*HAPPY CANADA DAY!!*
greetings from
Philippines
Thank you!
Crap! I already ordered my drone! Nazgul evoque f5 4s. Don't know what any of that means but I'll learn. Goin digital. Still need the goggles and remote but, IT HAS BEGUN!! See you in episode 3!!
Digital is the future so you're all set
Good expalation Steve
It's gonna be great series! :D looking forward to analague part, since I got my first camera drone i see the limitations now :P
Nice review..👍.. I got analog works good for me.. just one month in it's very hard.. watching will help..👌.. Thanks..
Great, as usual. Hope you'll have references for BetaFlight help. Don't get to fly my Spark much; not much open space here. Bought Taranis X9 Lite, Emachine EV100 Goggles and EMAX TinyHawk S thinking I could fly around the house. Still haven't got the drone and controller to bind.
woow, thanks, very good idea with this course
Good review .i like it
Awesome video like always, keep making more awesome videos, I am thinking of buying the cine go whoop, thanks 🙂👍
Awesome! Thank you!
Maybe should of explained latency lol I'm pretty new and know what it is but I didn't know a few weeks ago. Other then that great video. I'm running through the whole series
Great info. If I could afford DJI, it is the best system. Happy Canada Day.
Thank you!
Happy Canada day to you
Thanks!
Another wonderful video
Thanks again!
Another great episode! Thanks for sharing. peAce
Brilliant.
That was an awesome into.
Thank you.
I been watching fpv vids for a while, and am stoked to get into it. I want all digital, and feel like the tech is there now for max awesomeness. Thanks for your vids. God bless.
Cool, thank you!
great video, the ediding is very profesional, & the content is to the point, very clear. keep them coming. Thanks Steve.
Much appreciated!
Amazing as always !
I wish you all a nice day! Perfectly correct, this video is in all sorts of ways! Explains the mysteries of Fpv nicely! 👍You get a huge like in every picture! More successful video recordings and flying strength, health! 👆🌞👍🎮🥽✈️
Thank you!
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 You are very welcome! I wish you more nice day! Further successful video shots and enforcement strength, health! 👆🌞👍
Although the DJI goggles are more expensive, they have the extra versatility of being able to use them with some of their camera drones.
Waiting for the next video.
Analog is what I might go with since it has less latency and I fly planes too and cheaper
Excellent as usual... thanks for the effort on this. Choosing digital. Next, Which Drone...
Great part 2 - many thanks for sharing the info :)
Love this series!
Thank you!
Excellent content again.
Can’t wait until you do the third episode. I am really interested in getting into FPV systems. Steve what is the name of the Group and the song that is played at the end of each trilogy you do. Please let me know, like the song.
Ye I also like the song
Song is entitled Loud & Clear: ua-cam.com/video/5B7r2SY5W-M/v-deo.html
Thanks!!! Learning so much with you, I know thats you are establishing the difference between this two aspects of the hobby, but there are some hybrids, were you can experience both worlds, like a mavic air or some models of DJI that can be used with FPV googles, if you like a camera drone but will like to have a more smooth FPV experience without the worries of learning how to fly a real FPV drone, thats seems to be difficult and requires a lot of practice and props. For example I wish that the mavic air 2 could be use with FPV googles, and for me it would be the perfect combination, a good camera drone and the introduction to FPV, and may be in the future enter the racing category, but my budget just let me 1 category at this moment. Excellent video!!!
When you put on the DJI Googles (that large silly looking headset that causes women to cringe) and fly the Mavic Air, you are not experiencing the FPV hobby. Think of it as taking your cell phone and placing it a few inches in front of your eyes. The flight dynamics of the camera drone do not change.
CAPTAIN DRONE thanks for the advice, But you can’t use fast shark googles with a DJI drone or other non so expensive googles? , and that women problem is resolved :), Im studying what Im going to do, right now I am the pilot of my work drone, a phantom 4 pro, but is not mine, and I would like to have my own drone very soon!!! Thanks for your replay, and taking time to write us!!
Not going to rush into digital. Each air unit also cost a bit. Hopefully in a few years, there will be more cheaper alternatives to DJI.
Great series!👍👍
This is a very complex topic, at least for me. Even though you explained it fantastically, I still believe you should make a follow-up.
Update:
Now their are more than one digital Goggles manufacturer.
Their are walksnail HD0 and DJI all are good but have different strengths.
Then in the newer analog goggles you can adjust for your specific eyesight wright in the goggle menu.
I'm loving the series, I'm learning a lot!
One thing that I'm slightly confused by after this video is what is the point of the GoPro on the drone? Like if your not a UA-camr or something, why would you need much footage from your flights? And if you do need footage, is there not a way to record from the main drone camera so you wouldn't have to mess with a GoPro?
Because GoPros have much better footage quality if you intend on taking quality video recordings
Great video! Very descriptive. One question though. It's 2023 as of the time I'm writing this. I watched another video explaining that with the DJI O3 you can get up to about 14 km of range. That's insane to me. I still only have one drone right now and that's the original dji mavic pro. The range is nothing compared to what I mentioned above. How far does the range go with analog?
Analog all depends on the antennas and VTX power transmitter and VTX receiver. 20 miles is possible with the right gear. Should be plenty of UA-cam vids showing and explaining the ANALOG long range gear.
Great video !The only thing I want to ask is which one of the two systems harms less our head with radiation, if any.
Since they are pretty much on receive, probably neither.
Thank you for your reply.
I new series i like it
Thanks Steve, really helpful 👍
Happy to help
Thanks for the great advice Cap'n 😍😍
Nice intro! RIP Neal Peart.
YOUR INTRO IS THE BEST😊
Thank you!
Thank you for your videos I loved the first two parts, waiting next ones. I'm just starting in FPV and trying to put thing together on paper at the moment. Is it possible to have a drone set up with a DJI FPV Google + FPV camera - video transmitter and a TBS tango 2 + radio receiver? Does it make sense?
Certainly. Episode 3 & 4 should be out this coming week.
CAPTAIN DRONE I had a similar question. I want to use the DJI FPV Goggles + DJI camera + TBS Tango 2 controller w/Crossfire + Crossfire receiver. Is this still considered all digital? In the video you implied that only the full DJI setup (e.g., goggles, controller, camera) is “digital.” I want to use the Tango 2 controller w/built-in Crossfire because it appears more ergonomic than the DJI controller, cost less, and I believe the Crossfire system has a longer rc range than the DJI controller. I like the DJI goggles and camera because of digital and the longer video range (4K) of OcuSync 2.0. Do I need to buy any other components (modules) other than batteries, blades, etc? Please clarify because I am ready to pull the trigger on this drone and I don’t want to buy the wrong equipment. I am an experienced drone flyer but new to FPV. I like the long range capabilities and GPS of this drone, in addition to the ability to do freestyle stuff. Best of both worlds. BTW, I have watched many of your videos in this series. I love your channel!
@@ZabDevin When it comes to the RADIO it must match the receiver, so use the receiver you wish that matches your Radio config (crossfire) along with the DJI Goggles. As you watch the Full series FPV FOR BEGINNERS (11 episodes) you'll see me mix and match all the way through.
Helpful video thank you...what do you prefer to fly .. Digital or analog?
Both!
Great crash course (in speed of updating my knowledge, not how to crash hahaha). Question : why do FPV-drones have only ONE camera? For seeing depth while racing you should have stereo-vision in your goggles, not? My biggest reason for crashing my newbe cam-drone is that I not properly see depth.
It is all about speed of transmission from drone camera back to your goggles. It can't get bogged down with multiple transmissions of images.
Top 😁🤘
I only watched these first two videos, but I love them! I come from photography and videography, have been flying mavic air 2s and decided to go and dive head first into fun zone fpv world and have to say that your videos were the most helpful yet. Thanks for doing these! :)
I hope that I will be 16 yr soon because I want to fly fpv drones and camera drones 😅😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣😅😎,,,,,,,,,,, one more time great video 👍👍👍👍👍
Maybe you can start in and around the house with a small whoop. They are not so expensive and safe to fly. A great way to learn
Thanks bro 😊 ☺️ but no one buys a drone for me because it is too costly in India
Grrrrrrr im so wishy washy on if i want digital or analog .. oh man ..this is a struggle ! Which do you prefer? In all honesty ?
What about DJI's "racing" goggles? It appears DJI's racing goggles can do both analog and digital...the best of both.
DJI left out the name FPV in those googles because they essentially took your remote control and display and stuck it in a giant headset. The addition of a 5.8 ghz receiver was an after thought. But if you have them, you can certainly use them for FPV.
Hi Captain Drone! Is there an episode that tells u how to fly these fpv drones please? because the only drones that I have flown have been DJI drones & they just about fly themselves but I bet these f.p.v. drones are much different to fly! 😀👍👍
Those videos are EPISODE 11 and on.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thanks Steve!! 😀👍👍
another great video Steve, hearing lots of rumours about mavic 3 can you shed any light ??
That is just the yearly rumour. There was fake info out that many UA-cam reviewers fell for and republished.
Haha!!! That dude @ 6:09! GOODNESS that's boxy!🤣😂
ill stick to my fatsharks for now at least wait and see who else joins the rac compation is great for the hobby fatshark are suposed to be doing somthing. nice vid steve it can only be good for the hobby have a great day
I’m a complete beginner in the FPS world so please excuse me if I get this wrong but you didn’t mention the fact that you need to (or will end up wanting to) add additional modules and antennas to you analog goggles to try and boost the performance of them. Then you need to add on extras to your analog controller too so doesn’t the overall cost end up being almost similar to the digital option?
It all depends on the Googles you purchase. Some googles come with everything you require for a super low amount.
Loved the episode, but I was wondering are you going to provide links to everything ie. batteries, chargers, power supply units, and just all the other most people don't assume you have to buy separately? Because, when I first started getting into this no body told me that i would have to buy a battery and charger for my flight controller ended up waiting quite awhile for something that i just assumed would come with my purchase from buying almost anything else.
Yes. My plan is to give options in many videos on what to purchase. The options will all be items I own. This way if someone follows along, it is simple or if they have a question, I can then give an answer.
DJI's racing goggles can do 7km with ocusync versus 4km for digital version (don't know if 7km is acheived via analog, frequency, antenna, power, or something else).
How realistic is going out pass 4km (regardless of legalness)?
What's it like going out > 4km < 7km?
What is analog (2.4 GHz) like pass 4km?
You may be mixing something up. The range on an FPV drone is based on your radio communication system. If you wanted to fly 20 miles you could with the correct setup. Also the DJI racing goggles are your occusync remote control placed on your forehead with your phone display place in front of your eyes. Essentially DJI just took the remote control and display and put it in a head unit. This is why DJI does not refer to those goggles as FPV goggles.
Hi Captain, With your Honest Opinion which one is better ROCKET Plus DJI Air Unit HD FPV
or TransTec Beetle MINI 2" DJI HD Cinewhoop FPV Drone + Caddx Vista (Free Battery Checker)
Quantum Cyclops analog diversity DVR box goggles are the best entry level/ but still most pro features and function for about$100.00. Or if you are just like me and want good quality and function, just because you are poor and cheap then you still want the quantum cyclops diversity DVR box goggles 🤣! The only other good options for people who are in the same mindset are eachine ev100 or eachine 800dv something or other which have a little less features in some ways but different qualities just the same. Hope this helps someone, I really love my cyclops tho I can't see spending more money than that when you can get it all right the 1st time.
Another banger
That I love this channel
Nice video. Are you going to make videos on building your own fpv drone as well?
Since this is a video series to get people into the hobby in a simple way, I'll leave the building to Mr. Bardwell.
PS Happy Canada Day from Vancouver island! Hope you and everyone else in our nations capital are having a great one and staying safe.
It is me agen 4 time love you your the best
I could probably get by with the low-resolution analog image quality but the distracting rolling, random static signal and limited low altitude range of analog is a deal breaker. I can't justify $569 on the dji goggles and 2x price minimum difference on the drones, so here I wait. $1100 minimum is a steep entry point to any hobby.
Here's hoping there are some Chinese competitors with their own digital tech coming soon.
Well captain drone I have seen some UA-cam videos that will interest you such as a life drone in UA-cam channel be amazed and a different drone from Mark rober channel and a nerf drone from a different UA-cam channel I unfortunately can't remember it's name and the other channel tells about drones being used in airsoft and what are your thoughts on spy gear from spin master 360 degrees camera and I like and appreciate your lessons "oh captain my captain" I would like to do a rc tank battle with tiger tank but I don't have a rc tank and I'm interested rc forklifts too but I don't have rc forklift.
