    In this video, I show you how to change your oil and filter on a Honda Shadow.
    Procedure:
    Take the bike for a 10 minute ride to warm up the engine oil.
    Place the bike on a lift or side stand.
    Remove the drain plug with a 17mm box wrench or socket.
    Let the oil drain for 5-10 minutes.
    If needed, install new crush washer and reinstall drain plug. Torque to service manual specification.
    Loosen oil filter with wrench 1-2 turns. Let some of the oil drain before removing the filter completely.
    Make sure the gasket is on the oil filter.
    Wipe the filter sealing surface clean with a rag
    Prelube filter by pouring some oil into the filter.
    Take a few drops of oil and smear it on the new filter gasket
    Install new filter and torque to specification outlined in service manual.
    Pour in new oil.
    Start engine for 30 sec.
    Check oil 5 min after shutting engine off. Add oil if necessary. Most Hondas do not require to screw dipstick in.
    Check for leaks.
    Make note of date and mileage and write it in your maintenance log.
    Go ride!

    Matthew, I am 53 years old .I have had Harley’s, Honda’s, Yamahas. And Honda is by far my Favorite because of how simple they are and The engines are bulletproof. But your video is by far the most simple, self explanatory videos out here. And you know there are many. I put your videos in the Top 5. Thank you so very much and keep up the great work.

    I just did my lady friends oil change on a 2006, Honda Shadow 750. It's a trike though but same motor. I had to jack up the rear so I could get a bit of room for pan and my hands. The front was not jacked up and upon taking off the bolt the pan could only fit just up to the bolt. It shot oil outta the pan and made a mess. But live and learn right? No mistake ONLY lessons. I really appreciate your work and time to help.

    Been finding a lot of problems with my used 2003 Shadow ACE. Please consider a short video on installing a battery box and how the cables and wires are supposed to be placed. I can already see that the battery cables were incorrectly installed as well as the carbs and the choke cable, so I'll be going through all of that. Thank you for the great tutorials.

    Why install the new filter without draining sump bolt first? Also you never never never ever re use those washers, they're crush washers and they are 1 time use, once they are tightened they are crushed and that's how they seal, you'll notice one side on the washers is smooth and the other is hard and sharp, the soft side goes on the engine side to it crushes and seals.

    In summer since I ride from Vail where I live down to Tx where it is always 105-110f so I use CASTROL 20/50 V-Twin oil And a K&N filter since tgey are both free.My nephew is sponsored inhis Funnny Car by Castrol and K&N..I use NGK plugs and I replace place the oil. every 2,000 miles. I oslsu use a bit of Lucas oilstabilizer which I run a.liquid filled pressure gauge and its it extremelygreat!! I run a 38 tooth rear Hwy SPROCKET..anyway..I can run 85-90 no issues andvill tin 65-70 psi ..Mine is strippedcand bobbed and only run a simple 10 gauge bate solo seat with black leatger..no foam..Back half was proffesional done and converterted to a true Hatdtail.Tins are panited Vapor Blur Metallic..Similar to James Deans 1955 Porsche 550..Blue Collar Bobber 38inch drag bars along with V&H drag pipes for the exhaust with a stage3. jet kit..I run 705 Knobby Dual Sports and its lowered 7 inched un rear and 2 inches up front. I run tucked handle bar cables,not turn signals,no low/hi brigh switch,horn on the left & on right no starter or kill button.Just clean bars...No one has ever figured out how to start it.There is a way which uses a key but one with a key and one without..No one hagurexI justbhit 54,000 like miles on it and I have a 2018 INDIAN BOBBER SCOUT THATVIFCKN LOVVVVVE IT!! I ONLY ONLY OPTIONED FOR SPOKES AND MINI APRAS..I LOWERED 5 MORE INCHES MYSELF..I HAVE A 2000 TL1000R,2015 hyabusa and Piped Triumph thruxton,..Last bikecis my 1955 and 1957 74ci panhead Hybrid my pop built in H.S.shop and it still just like it was in 58. leals oil butvstill run as goodcasxsnyone would imagine..its never left me stuckban im 43..INDIAN IS A WAY BETTER BIKE THAN THE NEW HDs..thats100!!

    I just changed my oil because the petcock was leaking when in the off position. Seems some gas got into the oil thru the carbs, anyway the oil smells like gas . However the amount of oil 83 ozs was the same amount as usual. I guess it doesn't take much gas to dilute the oil.

    I change the drain plug washer every time. They're cheap. I get it for 50 cents. They stick on the oil pan MOST of the time because they're aluminum and when they get tightened too tight, they will press into the drain hole. You will see a ridge around the hole in the washer confirming this.

    Thank you for your very informative video you did an excellent job and made this very easy for me. I recently purchased an '05 750 and it's my very first motorcycle so I know I have a lot to learn. I was just curious if you happen to know, my bike seems to be misfiring occasionally and when it does as soon as it pops a few times the bike rides so much better and faster I was just curious on what I should consider doing to fix this problem and whether it's a serious problem or an easy fix. Whether you know or not I just wanted to say thank you for the video and I greatly appreciate it.

      I've worked on other models with loose oil pump chains. There is no adjustment on some models and really doesn't matter since it is not timing anything. You'd have to double check on your model.

    How often you do oil change on motorcycle? I have a 2012 Honda shadow phantom and I'm at 1,500 mile without oil change.

    • @HTMR
      @HTMR  4 роки тому

      Why not download the owners manual? It should have the maintenance chart. I believe the first oil change is around 600mi, after break in.

    • @HTMR
      @HTMR  7 років тому

      Please clarify: your oil light is on when bike is RUNNING or NOT RUNNING. It's supposed to be ON when NOT RUNNING.

      Can't remember. Intervals should be in service manual, can't remember that either.

      Pull the plugs and put in some oil. You are going to have to clean out the fuel tank and the carbs for sure: howtomotorcyclerepair.com/hondashadowcarbclean/

      I like to R&R the filter first. It doesn't matter the order you do it in.
