    I visited Samdo in November 2012, I feel in love with the place even though i had to watch a friend medivac out to Kathmandu with severe sickness. It was such a magical place. Loved the video, would love to see that place again.

    At the beginning around 30 seconds: This is a typical Tibetan mother calling her child to either come home or I will come and break your leg. I have heard this so many times from my mother or mothers of my friends and neighbors.

    Excellent. I spent several mos. below Manaslu in a village and always wanted to know how it is in the realms above. Now I know. And yes, it is Remote. Few know the importance of archery in the Himalayan cultures. It is beloved as a sport in Sikkim as well.

    As the title of Video states, it's in Samagaun (Rhoe) and not Samdo. This archery festival so called "Dashang" is held yearly in 3rd month of tibetan calendar at Muguthanka in Samagaun. Samdo is about 2 hours far away from Samagaun. Both Samagaun and Samdo belong to Ward No. 1 of Tsum-Nubri Rural Municipality.

    Hallo Ed, fantastische film!!! Groet Marc

      Do not confuse ethnicity and nationality. These people belong to the Tibeto-Burman ethnic group but they are Nepalese citizens and Nepal is their nation. You would not call an Anglo-Saxon person from Britain a German would you just because his ancestors came from Saxony?

    • @petagonkyi

      They are all Tibetan land and people which Tibetan lost to Nepal in the 18th and 19th centuries following the Gurkha invasion of Tibet bordering the Kyirong and Zonga.
      Tibetan govt minted the silver coins/currency from Nepal as Nepalese were known for making statues, building temples since the Nepali princess Brikruti became one of the wives of Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo in 7AD. Over the years Nepali goldsmith started adulterating silver with other metals for profits since the days of the Malla dynasty. Tibetans govt asked the Nepalese king to control the Nepali goldsmith use pure silver as per the contract. Malla dynasty was overthrown by Gorkha or Shah dynasty. Tibetan made the same request the Shah dynasty instead of helping nullified the values of coins in Nepal and also said no compensation will be paid. (Tibetan currency has been in use for business for centuries in Nepal like a US$ today.)
      Then following argument Nepali invaded and occupied many Tibetan region which is very obvious from the people and names of the places. many of these families still have the documents of their forefathers being Tibetan citizens from tax records.

    • @petagonkyi
      @petagonkyi 4 роки тому +2

      Most of them are Tibetan. Didn't you see the lady who spoke perfect Tibetan in the beginning of the video? The people from Samdo have their relatives in Tibet across the border as Samdo was part of Tibet about 150 years ago when the Nepalese invasion and occupied in with many areas of Tibet. Many of the Tibetan refugees in India crossed via Samdo and even stayed a couple of years before moving to India as Tibetans feared that Nepal too could be occupied by China.

    • @MinsCreation
      @MinsCreation 4 роки тому +2

      @@petagonkyi Ha ha Rui village (now a part of China) is bordered with Samdo was part of Nepal. Later it was taken by China from Nepal as a mutual understanding of exchage of land between these two countries. Most of the inhabitants of Rui migrated to Samdo as they did not want to become Chinese.
      Speaking Tibetan accent does not always mean they are Tibetan. So the people in these video are Nepali not Tibetan. Also you may not know I am also inhabitant of Manaslu region so don't argue that these people are Tibetan.

      Tibetan have been weaned off their martial arts since 9th AD. Tibetans was great warriors from 6-9AD (pre-Buddhist), Tibetan soldiers have marched as far as Bagdad in 8AD and controlled as far as Xian (China) was then the capital of China.
      Rise of Buddhism has made a Tibetans a sitting duck. Even a small kingdom invaded and could do nothing.
