R.I.P. grande Taddei.
Amazing performance. I think one of the best I've heard. I heard Taddei as Falstaff at the Metropolitan Opera. It was late in his career and it was still stellar
Taddei does not sing the aria. He interprets it. he breathes. He lives the role. What a magnificent recording - live. He was truly one of the greatest singers of the 20th century
BRAVO MAESTRO TADDEI!!!! THIS IS THE VERY BEST VERSION OF THIS BEAUTIFUL GLORIOUS ARIA BY MAESTRO UMBERTO GIORDANO. I ENJOYED NOT ONOY THE SINGING, BUT ESPECIALLY THE ACTING. DI NUOVO, BRAVO MAESTRO TADDEI!
I had the distinct privilege of hearing him live twice in Philadelphia in the late 60's. He sang relatively few performances in the USA but I saw him in an unforgettable TOSCA with Carlo Bergonzi and Jean Fenn, a very under rated soprano and a superb RIGOLETT0 with Roberta Peters, I think. Although I love Gobbi in the role of Scarpia, I've encountered no more a menacing Scarpia than Taddei. A truly magnificent singing actor!
I witnessed both the sitzprobe and a performance of Tosca with Kirsten and Taddei when I was a student at the Hartt School in Connecticut. He sang only occasionally in the US. Italians often said they gave Gobbi to the world but kept Taddei for themselves! He was very versatile, you should check out his Falstaff and Ducamara. A brilliant actor.
An enemy of the State?! It’s an old fable That people are still blissfully swallowing. Born in Constantinople? Foreigner! Studied at Saint-Cyr? Soldier! Traitor! Accomplice to Dumouriez! And a poet? Corrupter of hearts And mores! I once lived joyfully Without hatred or vengeance Pure, innocent and strong. I thought myself a giant But I’m just a servant Who’s changed masters. An obedient servant to violent passions! Ah, worse yet! I kill and tremble, And while I kill, I weep! Me, a son of the Revolution, The first to hear its cry For the world, I united that cry to my own. Have I now lost faith In that dream of destiny? Oh how my path Shone with glory! The heart’s conscience Reawakening the people, Gathering up the tears Of the vanquished and suffering, Making the world a Pantheon, Changing men into gods; And in one kiss, In one kiss and one embrace To love all mankind!
The finest "Puccini" aria that Puccini did not compose. But when Puccini saw it performed ,he got a few ideas for Tosca, Of course the big difference being that Gerrard is the benevolent villain and Scarpia the converse.
Equalled only by Leonard Warren, baritones of this quality are rare indeed. No one today comes anywhere near. However I have to say that Mario Serini in the complete opera recording of the mid 60’s is absolutely wonderful with such great melody his voice.
This is a man's voice. A proper, dark, rich Verdi baritone. Bravo!

We can understand every single word. the refined dynamics, Taddei was a Giant della lirica.
FANTASTICO !
What does it mean “tutto girato “ in practice?

Grande , voce baritonale vera , potente , drammatica .
E l'interpretazione! Che interpretazione!! 💖💗
Il basso
Impareggiabile ❤
Senza dubbio, una bela voce e grande scuola! Non si canta così in nostri giorni! I cantantj ingolatti nella lyrica...senza commentario.
One of the most beautiful renditions of this great aria that I have ever heard. The voice is beautiful and his musicality is awesome. What a find!
Un carissimi amico e un grande artista. R I P 🌷
Gran voce!!!! Fraseggio nobile da fuori classe.... Carriera immensa. Beautiful

No doubt one of the best of all time.
Un fenomeno assoluto ❤️

My God what a wonderful singer Taddei was. Wish we had his like today.

@@Aneldarx Amartuvshin can't compare to Taddei
Not. With wobble, cause of wrong timbre. And he is a bass

One of the greatest baritones ever! Incredibly versatile and great interpreter or most king od music!
Rich, mellow, dramatic-the perfect performance of this aria!
Taddei at the height of his powers. A true singing- actor. The part suits him and hes making the most of it.
Grande Maestro Taddei...indimenticabile!!!
Magnificient!!!!Best Carlo Gerard I've heard.
Taddei does not sing the aria. He interprets it. he breathes. He lives the role. What a magnificent recording - live. He was truly one of the greatest singers of the 20th century
Italy had a lot of great bariton in the 19 century, here is one of the very best…..may be the best after my taste..
His voice is pure velvet.
This guy sang with drive!!!
This is one of the best renditions of this aria ever recorded, taddei was an exceptional baritone, another great rendition is by the great paolo silveri

Bastianini?
Io l’adoro !
Magnific, magnific, magnific, he is really suited for this aria, a very deep voice coming from the chest and emotion through the words
Monumentale e grandioso
Lipsync of a great performance. The way he sings the climax and the preceding lyrical phrases are the hallmark of superior baritone.
Glorious voice!!!! Bravo! BRAVO!!!!!!
Semplicemente Grande e Unico !!!
Gran barítono dramático Guiseppe. bravo!👏👏👏👏👏👏
Inarrivabile
His eyes alone are worth the price of admission! What a great singer. I saw him in Ballo, Vienna 1976. The voice undiminished in power and beauty.
Che classe. Secondo me lo migliore in quest' aria.
Come to think of it, it was Mario Sereni.
I had the distinct privilege of hearing him live twice in Philadelphia in the late 60's. What was the size of his voice like?
Today's singing voice was hygienic and size and a speaking voice was similar. You could hear him speak a long way off when he was casually talking.
I saw him latest years of career in Barcelona in an amazing Tabarro of trittico pucciniano, he was a tremendous actor and singer !!!!
fantástico,sensible,un artista!

Amazing
increible
10 e lode!
habe taddei leider nur einmal erlebt in simone
Excel.lent cantactor.
The irony and cynicism in every phrase of the aria's opening is a cut above what other baritones provide, even the best of them.
Superb singing, even better than Gino Bechi on the famous HMV set with Gigli and Caniglia.
❤❤❤
