Coolio Joined The Hip Hop Uncensored Podcast To Talk about being approached to do some weird stuff while he was and artist. Coolio, is an American rapper, singer, record producer, and actor. Coolio achieved mainstream success in the mid-to-late 1990s with his albums It Takes a Thief (1994), Gangsta's Paradise (1995), and My Soul (1997). He is best known for his 1995 Grammy Award-winning hit single "Gangsta's Paradise", as well as other singles "Fantastic Voyage" (1994), "1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin' New)" (1996) and "C U When U Get There" (1997).
He was also known for rapping the theme song ("Aw, Here It Goes!") for the late 1990s Nickelodeon series Kenan & Kel. Coolio has since gone on to release albums independently and has also become a chef, creating a web series titled Cookin' with Coolio and releasing a cookbook. Ivey originally rose to fame as a member of the Gangsta rap group WC and the Maad Circle alongside WC and his brother, Crazy Toones.

Coolio stopped his show to protect me from getting jumped! I was just dancing with my friends enjoying myself and my spirit was disturbing the girls demons and they started pulling my hair and pushing me. I was right up front and Coolio was doing his thing and just said Stop! He addressed the girls, had them escorted out and he asked me if I was okay. I said yes and thanked him and then he said Cool and finished the show. Such a gentleman. I will never forget that kind hearted gesture 🙌🏿💝

I remember the freestyle session we all had in the MWR tent @ Camp Virginia back in the day. He & Drew Carey had us talking about them for years. To this day, I have the utmost gratitude for coming to hang out with us.... even if was for publicity, or part of an endorsement, or honestly just to support the troops & the civilians who supported them.!!! I have a cousin that was signed to Warner Brothers back in the early 90s and the band he was in was selling millions...had a hit album and were riding high...until(naturallly)the the hype died down and it was time to put in work to stay popping. So naturally, my cousin(whose use to grinding to maintain so it was no biggie, right?)and the band start lining up things to start the grind...and thats when they started getting approached by people in the industry in their ears saying..."Well, you know all you gotta do is get in with that crowd...they've got an in with this label and that exec and you really wouldn't have to do it on your own. But....nothing is free so he/she will probably require a small ask of you but thats no big deal."...except you don't know its some weird sex act and plus....you're thinking..."how bad could such and such request be?"....so you jump right in. And guess what? Your back on top....and now its time to pay up. My cousin and his band turned it all down and wanted to grind it out with the fan based and just let it grow organically and they never went platinum again...mind you Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones actually discovered them when they had a gig in a NY bar called CBGB's and got them the Warner deal. The band is called Living Colour. They had videos on MTV and everything and it was all snatched. But, because they played rock they maintained a lotta their fan based(rock fans are loyal....sorry but its true)but the chart and mainstream success was completed deaded. They still get paid well but they ain't on the short list no more and they got taken off early in their careers.

Wow that one hack of a story to tell but there are many people in the music industry that was popping but wouldnt sell out. Good for your cousin and his band. Stayed true to thier vaules. This what i have told my kids....dont sell out because there is a price to be paid in the end.

I’m honored to have met Coolio in TN a couple weeks before his passing! He was a sweet but quiet man, and I think he was just quiet cause my boyfriend and I addressed him while he was shopping with his manager. It broke my heart to hear the sad news of his passing and my heart and prayers go out to his entire family at this time!
I met him too, he was definitely not quiet. I was more amazed at how unquiet he was. 😂😂😂 🤦🏽♀️ I was like wtf, he was cussing, talking, loud but down to earth and friendly. Pretty much how he is in this interview but just a little more ghetto, hyper and gangster.

He was sweet though and engaged in our conversation when you sometimes hear about celebrities who are rude in order to get people to not bother them!
