    There is so much to think about when playing the organ. This idea of thinking and preparing ahead of time necessitates thinking of several things at the same time. At my old age I thought this might be impossible. It is amazing how my brain is able to do this simultaneously with all the other things going on at the same time when playing the organ. I have noted that so many good conductors are organists.

    Interesting point of view... I'll try it tomorrow. But on our organ we haven't so much place / room for legs. And because I'm very tall I often "beat" with my legs to the bottom of the play table...

    THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
    I am just learning and we have not really discussed pedal techneque. My teacher says to play the pedal notes with the left hand!!

    I look after that sometimes in practice. And I noticed that I already do that like you explained it. Not every time but mostly😊
    And then I tried to make it incorrectly to see the difference. And it was more bad

      Good question. It’s hard to give one size fits all recommendation for improving your pedal technique. But I think that Bach Orgelbüchlein is one of the greatest collection of studies/exercises for the organ. On top of that, they are outstanding compositions.

      Another good resource for pedal technic is Lars Nilson, "A System of Technical
      Studies in Pedal Playing for the Organ"

    I have seen some organists standing on the pedal. Is it ok to do that even if it’s not playing?

    Question:
    Is it safe to play pedals with socks?? I do not have shoes, and I dont know how much a good pair are, or where to get them!!

    • @roelofvandermerwe1147
      @roelofvandermerwe1147 Рік тому +1

      It is completely "safe", by all literal sense of the word, you won't damage the organ, no. It seems to be a personal preference amoung organists whether to play with shoes or not, but i have yet to come across a full time, performing organist who does not use shoes.
      In my opinion (I believe to be the correct one!😂): beginning without shoes for a few weeks may be helpful in gaining a really tactile geography of the pedals; where they are placed, shaped, down to the centimeter. This is what I did and feeling the pedals with your actual feet does feel good to play with.
      However as pedal playing becomes more advanced and faster, it becomes difficult to play in small movements. The pointed toe and heel of an organ shoe greatly assists in accuracy and economy of movement. An important thing to note: your shoes MUST fit snug, there should not be much toe wiggle room, if any, as far as I am concerned.
      As for getting a pair, I'd suggest you also take a look online, possibly locally, for dance studios or dance apparel stores. A good pair of ballroom dance shoes is almost the exact same thing as an organ shoe, I am still using my ballroom shoes 6 years after beginning and I have great recommendation for it.
      I hope this helps!!
