Just one cause for concern in your overhaul. In future, you should give the freehub a good cleaning prior to the install of a new cassette. Before the new install, apply a thin layer of quality grease to the freehub and of course torque lockring to proper spec. Nice to see your full rejuvenation process!! Cheers Mate, Pjw
As a die hard fixer upper, make do and mender, there is a point where you realise the cheapest thing to do is start a fresh. If you ride year around then you have to keep on-top of everything or it becomes very expensive. A BB, a cassette, set of pads, chain suddenly your in for £400 with a still very secondhand bike. Or you run several bikes and one day wake up to them all being goosed. After 25 years I landed on 10 year old 29” steel XC MTB (PACE), with a compact chainring, 3 sets of wheels and tyres. So one bike to do everything badly.
How do you know that those are real Shimano parts, I've seen a lot of fake (well made) Shimano parts on Ali Express Also just comparing chain length is wrong, you replace a chain when it's stretched so why would you compare it if it's stretched, and yes it can be as much as a whole link!
Chains don't actually stretch. The inner rollers wear down from use and this leads to less efficient shifting and an increasing gap between each link. The actual length of the chain remains the same.
@@2001MBKBooster if the contact surfaces are wearing down, that will cause a measurable difference in the length of the chain. Measurable by you, with something as simple as a ruler or a proper chain tool. 'stretch' is an appropriate word for this, it causes a real difference. Keep these rim brake bikes alive is a good thing.....I've done this stuff on an old 2010 Allez and it still gets ridden....albeit slowly as I'm getting on a bit.....and I got some 28c tyres in it as well with ease = a tad more comfort. Looking forward to how the sponsor's components work.....?

You REALLY should change these shallow wheels! They look ridiculous on that bike and really don't do the frame justce. Imho the SL4 i oune of the prettiest bike frames, after the Venge Vias.
Great video David! There are some bargains to be found on eBay, I bought a Specialized Ruby this year that had been upgraded to Shimano Ultegra D12, with hydraulic disc brakes for just £500!
That's because this is a thread-together PressFit bottom bracket inside a BB30 bottom bracket shell. It should be fairly commonplace by now. I'm willing to bet that's a Praxis Works bottom bracket.
@yonglingng5640 Praxis is common place? Out of a dozen bikes in our family and only one bike has a PF30 and it works fine. If it creaks, it's only at the crank to spindle interface. A little grease fixes that for at least a season. Never owned any Praxis products or know anyone that has bought a Praxis crankset and bb aftermarket. I guess my crowd knows how to chase creaks or is smart enough to just go threaded.
@@newttella1043 I said that for thread-together PressFit bottom brackets, never did I mention it's commonplace to have Praxis Works bottom brackets everywhere.
Unless the expander plug is really long and there's only a maximum of 20 mm worth of spacers above the stem, you have to cut off excess steerer tube. Let's say this Tarmac SL4 came with a stock stem height of 30 mm and the first owner decides to slam the stem with an extremely flat headset cover, there's almost 30 mm worth of steerer tube above the stem and your expander plug has to be very long in order to still clamp onto reinforced steerer tube. It's also very unsafe to ride with this much excess steerer tube.
Pretty sure there something a miss with your chain and front chainring? Seems to be following a strange line over the large chainring, looking like it’s being pushed into it
Love the video. Seems like Ali express (cost) is a good choice for a 400 pound rebuild. It’s easy to get hung up on going Shimano or SRAM for parts…why not do a redo with Ali? I had a Tarmac SL6 and loved the ride!
The best way to do it is to brace the frame by the surrounding area so that as much of the hammering force gets translated into removing the bearing as possible. But, impactless bottom bracket pullers exist, like one made by BSC Tools. Recommended by the UCI's mechanics course too.
It's always great to bring back a bike. That no one else was going to ride and who needs a ten thousand dollar bicycle. Really? Who needs a $10000 bicycle? Besides a pro and we all know the pros don't pay for their bikes.
28mm wide tires, how it’s possible… I have one 2019 SL4, the last year Specialized have this on their catalog, with Shimano 105 R7000, and I have lots of problems with a simple 25mm tires! I have some newer weels, a pair of the last Vision Trimax 30, with a Continental Grand Sport Race, and even any small misalignment in the wheel, the tire rubs against the chainstain! And I'm very light, 63kg, and unfortunately I don't have the power output of one Pogi to twist the entire bike. I can't wait to see the test on the road, because I don't think it's possible, there's no space!
I was shocked too. I think it might be helped by the rims being very narrow, so this might change with wider rims. Maybe the Goodyear tyres come up narrow? I'll get the calipers on them to check when I get the chance
@@davidarthur maybe it could just be that. In my case, with the stock weels, with some DTsuiss rims, the Continental 25mm runs well, but with the 26mm Specialized Turbo tire tire rubs again. In relation to the my calipers, the 105 R700 there's no problems!

Copper slip on BB saved you a headache 😂

You could have taken out the crankset and the BB and installed them again on camera.
