tested your talent build out, ive noticed that wither runs out of duration on about 50% of targets, even with its stacking nature. new stacks dont appear to refresh duration. but something else is refreshing the duration of the others. perhaps one hero talent generator refreshes duration, but the others dont? anyways, i gained about 15% total dps by swapping to cataclysm and using it on cooldown to refresh duration. if im doing something wrong please let me know, i manually applied wither then did my normal aoe rotation. re applying them manually vs just using cataclysm was roughly a 15% total dps difference on 5 targets. the more targets the more dps difference im sure. edit: im pretty sure its just channel demonfire not being good enough to fully keep uptime on 5 targets. maybe single target it could, but at that point you arent using rain of fire or cataclysm. for aoe cataclysm seems better.
Hey buddy, how is going? :D I think I understand the simulation you did, and I'm going to assume that you used DamageMeter to track the damage you caused, so let's go. There are 3 important points, I'll start with the concept of DPS: 1 - DPS is different from DOT (Damage Over Time), where DPS is the damage you caused within a certain time interval (and DamageMeter shows it in the UI like this) and DOT is the damage your character is able to cause per second. When you start the fight with Cataclysm (which is what I understood from your comment in one of your simulations) your damage starts to be tracked by DamageMeter at the same time that all targets are already with Wither, so the DPS will be higher because the time interval is shorter (since you didn't waste time using Wither manually on all targets), but the damage per second you will cause will not necessarily be higher. If you want to test it on the 5 training targets in the cities, try looking at the "comparison" tab in the DamageMeter panel, try to make a combat duration of 30 seconds and compare the two tables (one with cataclysm and the other without). If I wasn't very clear, you can try looking here: www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/1ng7pj/dps_vs_dot/#:~:text=In%20MMO%20lingo%2C%20they're,DPS%20on%20a%20Titan%20fight. 2 - I don't think you need to worry too much about the duration of Winther on targets, because in M+ if you're not one of those who likes to go on a M+6 with 580 IL xDD The duration of the lots with groups of small and large mobs will hardly exceed 30 seconds, unless the other DPS in your group are having a lot of trouble dealing damage. 3 - The concept of playing with Inferno and not Cataclysm is not because of the Wither but because of Blackened Soul because of its stacks. If you take into account the number of mobs, there are some dungeons that really have a larger number of mobs at the entrances, for example Necrotic Wake or The Stonevault, in which case Cataclysm can act better because of the AOE. But at least 80% of your time in M+ in general will be spent dealing with a maximum of 5/6 targets, so if you are worried about manually applying Wither to multiple targets, don't worry :) Recalling a point I made in the video: While the fight doesn't start while your tank is grouping the mobs, try to apply Wither to all possible targets (Remember that this way your DPS will be different because your tracking will start earlier and with little damage, since it will only be the Wither DoT in the first 4 or 5 seconds, but your damage during the fight will be much higher). If you wait to apply Wither only after your tank has finished grouping the mobs, then in the end your damage will be lower, because you will need to waste time applying Wither while your other DPS are already harassing them. In your dungeons, try doing the following: Test with Cataclysm vs Inferno (applying Wither manually), and observe the overall damage at the end of each dungeon, because then DPS is not taken into account, but only the overall damage you managed to cause. Look at the "trash" records and analyze which caused more damage in practice, if you have any questions, leave them here in the comments so we can know which was better :)
