The tragic end of Joan of Arc, it's a real tearjerker

  • Eyewitnesses described the scene of the execution by burning on 30 May 1431. Tied to a tall pillar at the Vieux-Marché in Rouen, she asked two of the clergy, Fr Martin Ladvenu and Fr Isambart de la Pierre, to hold a crucifix before her.
With Adèle's song Set fire to the rain, it's a real tearjerker.

Around 500 years later. The same church that burned her and ended her life, declared her a saint.

Yeah but the story would be way cooler if she didn’t have to hear voices or have divine intervention to be a military leader- it’s actually kind of an insult to women by making it seem like their military prowess would be so impossible that only a miracle by divine intervention would allow a woman success in battle. Also, pretty sure she would be diagnosed with schizophrenia today for hearing disembodied voices and claiming they were saints and the Virgin Mary. Well, I am thankful that women can be in the military today and not just in healthcare. They can even go to military academies if they merit it and graduate to officers. Although I am not the correct type of woman to be in the military I am grateful that women who are able to that can do that. I am also not the correct type of woman to have a job in healthcare but if I had to choose between being like in combat or a nurse in the military, I would choose combat.!

That's completely false. She was completely dead. They burnt her poor body three times in total. First time, killed her. They then moved everything and showed her charred body, as proof she had not escaped. Then, they burnt her body to ashes by burning her twice more. I respect everyone's beliefs, but do not mock the poor women's death. She was an amazing fighter, and a brave women. What happened, happened. They burnt her body to ashes, completely, and then tossed them into the river.

The song perfectly fits the scene. Very moving. Brings one to tears. Thank you Joan of Arc, Daughter of God, for all you have done for us by your obedient life and death. Death came into the world through the disobedience of one evil woman, Eve. Even so, Eternal Life has now been offered to all through the obedience of one righteous cross-dressing virgin teenage farm girl, Joan of Arc. She is the propitiation for our sins and those of the entire world.

Who are the '' we know'' ?
Catherine of Alexandria never existed !
If you careful read the old texts, Catherine' story doesn't make sense,
that is why it was removed from the Roman Catholic Church .
at the same time, with St Christopher...another invented story.
What is odd with your previous comment is that by removing
only one saint, in this case Marguerite of Antioch, from the story of Jehanne la Pucelle , it changes everything.
Read about Yolande d'Anjou, the ''mastermind'' behind all the scenes
and Jehanne' protector and suddenly everything falls into place.
Jehanne had 4 swords, 2 full armors with gambesons,
12 Medieval War horses, wounded at least 4 different occasions
and don't forget the golden spurs....
You believe that ''saints'' were teaching her Medieval warfare tactics?
Any idea how many years , it took young aristocrat men /squires to handle a Medieval War horse , with your legs only ??? Take a guess .
Jehanne was '' running a lance '' ( jousting ) in 1428 at the Court of the Duke of Lorraine...a year before she left for ''France'' and the Duke said
she was better at jousting than most of his men.
Ever wonder where she learned to manipulate a lance ???
This political struggle/ story is complicated and complex
      bringing new info every year....
God or saints don't take sides and are not involved
in Man's bickering, squabble and petty quarrels.

It was the middle-age! England was occupiying France for more than hundred years, Joan of Arc was captured by the Burgundians, transferred to the English for money, put on trial by the pro-English Bishop of Beauvais, and burned at the stake when she was 19 years. This tragic story of Joan of Arc is very well documented by the church during that time. The history of mankind is full of these narrations. Even today: Iraq, Afghanistan, (+ more arabic countries) they are still fighting for freedom.

I never fully understood why they killed her, I've heard various reasons but I did read on wikipedia that twenty-five years later they had a re-trial and declared her innocent. Too bad they waited after she was dead to prove her innocence, that's kind of like a slap to the face. smh

    • @michaels.thomas1564
      @michaels.thomas1564 10 років тому

They knew she was innocent during the first trial, it was the politics between the French and the English crown that was the reason, France was scared that the English would take back the lands that the French had taken from them and part of the reason was that by killing Joan the English would not keep trying to take back their former lands.

    • @commissarkrunch6242
      @commissarkrunch6242 10 років тому +1

The English executed Joan of Arc because she was one of the greatest French commanders of all time, and dealt the English so many humiliating defeats, that they basically would do anything to kill her. Including hold a fake trial, in which the outcome was already decided from the beginning.

    • @DJDoubleCee

    • @DJDoubleCee

DJDoubleCee The Pope didn't believe she was a Heretic, so he approved a retrial, purely to recover Joan's honor. You must realize, honor was extremely important to people of her day and age, and if one person's honor was tarnished in an extreme way, such as being declared and executed as a Heretic, that it would affect their family, friends and those who worked alongside them.

This choice of song was not saying Joan of Arc was not saying truth, she was betrayed by the Burgundians and the English, it was they who were not true. She did indeed set fire to the rain, it is a metaphor. 600 years later we are still loving The Maid of Orleans, she made a stand for her beliefs and convictions and her death set France free.

Joan of Arc unfortunately shouldn’t have had to have divine intervention to show that a woman was competent of leading or being a military officer. Thank Goodness that there are military officers now who are women and got proper training at military academies. And military medical personnel are necessary to but to be in the military a woman shouldn’t be forced to go into nursing or the medical field at all. No woman should have other people deciding what and who she is or what her opinions about things are or what her career should be… it makes me cry that, that happened.

+Tom Turner Interesting question Tom. I don't know if they put some snow in this film to make it more dramatic. The life of Joan of Arc is precise and well documented, even. I read Mary Gordon's Biography of Joan of Arc (2000) ISBN 0-670-88537-1 But I can't remember what the weather was this 30th of May 1931.
We can notice that the climate was very mild in some long periodes in the first half of the XV century. With a few exceptions. It appears that the winter 1431 - 1432 was very rough with heavy flooding in March 1432. But this not clear if the specific year 1431 was very rough at the end of the spring.
If you are able to read French, you could look at the climate in France in the XV century: www.jacques-coeur-bourges.com/climat.html

It was in this periode of more than hundred years English occupation (1337 to 1453) an enclave adjacent to the Rhine in de Bourgogne. The Bourgogne included also the Low Countries (Belgium, Netherlands). France was not formed like now. So I don't know if Jeanne of Arc considered herself French. I know what you are trying to say ! That , we and the Church is responsible for her death . This is not a religious story, it is a political story, quite extraordinary and complex. There were no voices since for example, Saint Katherine and Marguerite never existed, they are part of the Middle Ages' folklore. This is a story were two very different visions for France will clashed, where the Dauphin or Charles VII and his ministers, the Bishop of Chartres and Latrémoille had decided to have a treaty with the Bourguigons and the English and where Jehan la Pucelle prefers to go ahead and attack Paris... ( Jehan la Pucelle is her name, the family name D'Arc or Tarc was NEVER used by Jehan , during her lifetime, This comes from the 16th and 17th century... She was ''removed'' exactly like today in political conflicts !!

Joan of Arc was a 19 year old French peasant girl who dressed up as a man solider to go save her country. She had saved her country...but was later considered a rule breaker and was burned for her crime. Years after her death the people realized that they had made a mistake and they later titled her as a saint (a very holly person) and was remembered for her wonderful act......you are welcome!

_the last form Lucifer ever took, in its true gender.. disguised as a human woman.. after everyone found out it was Mithras - Amaterasu - Ceres.. they burned the shapeshifting demon at the stake.. despite the "good deeds" she cowered behind.. after that she decided shapeshifting as Napoleon and Adolf was the best revenge against the people who found her out, and "turned her into a phoenix".._
*how can we honestly believe that succub was a "saint" when she threatened the Hussites with a Catholic Crusade?*
Just like Taylor (Dajjal) who was already uncomfortable with her white human skin, and identified as a dark ogre (which she revealed to Ym in telepathic conversations using the Atlantis "mind transfer" possession devices after he cut off all ties with her, realizing she really was Kali and finding out enough Intel about her).. and Ym realized the Race War was real, and ogres still walked among us, though shapeshifted to avoid discovery, and hunt down "high stakes Aryans".. Lucifer (Loki) became more comfortable using its mutant ogre powers to shapeshift into a "male".. hiding behind the opposite gender (Stefan the Great as another fake "life" to usurp sanctity and be proclaimed a "Saint" just like Jean d'Arc, which is a wet dream for Satan, to be worshipped by aryans like a saint)
..and so did Dajjal, who became obsessed with Ym, and decided to steal his body (probably because it was a chimera that included her sister's mutant vessel, that had no ogre traits -since these demons stopped using their real ogre look millennia ago- and was just a doppleganger twin of Ym's body, that Loki also lusted after, to "become his body").. their sister "Artemis" also had the same obsession to extract Ym from his dragon form, and hide inside it..
_Though, just like Jean of Arcadia.. the "Phoenix of Orleans" became ashes.. like the "queens of Z!on" that idolize her, and want to walk in her "saintly shoes"_

Why, why this made me cry so much I can't even. Oh my god, sorry Joan, what the FUCK, sorry again, she was innocent. But, England just had to kill her, she was a hero, the worst part is after her death they found her innocent, not guilty. Seriously? They couldn't have figured that out then? P.S. the reason why Whenever I say a curse word or god other than prying in this comment is because she was really Jesus friendly. I don't go to church

Ava Crosby I think you are a sweet soul like Joan, and about the same age. Her secret is that she lived such a righteous life, and so during her trial she was able to simply tell the honest truth. In their face, with no fear. And although she was so simple, that confounded her judges, who were big scholars of the day. The trial is all recorded. It was rigged so she didn't have a chance anyway though. Sometime read a biography of her, or I like "Personal Recollections..." by Mark Twain, which is very historically accurate for a novel and very enjoyable. Best to you.

Well, I can answer the snow question at least. There was a mini ice age at that time. It started around 1300 and continued until nearly 1500. Another mini ice age followed closely after that, ending in the 1700s. Additionally, snow in May isn't unheard of in northern places. I grew up in the northern part of the United States and remember many a spring snow. 🙂
