6:02 I have a phantom in the box. I got it from my grandfather. He stopped wearing it after the battery died long ago. It’s still in the case. It has the leather band, but is 18k gold. Any idea how to get the battery replaced in it?
Fascinating overview of some of the nastiest designs in history, the Bulova "Datejust" stand out as uniquely offensive although I do now have a puzzling yen for a Universal Geneve Quartz....I had no idea they were bought by Bulova, looking no doubt for a design that wouldn't give Liberachi a conniption, something other than the tinkers wedding presents and cracker novelties they were selling at the time. Does your obsession not extend to the only interesting and attractive watches they made, the Accutron? A vid about the accutron would be interesting.....
Ha ha I looked at the accutron already in my video on electric watches. I’m unpredictable in my obsessions - variety in tastes is what makes things interesting!
I'm the owner of probably one of the rarest models in the Accuquartz range, the 226 (module 2260) LCD version from 1975. According to the annual reports, it was probably the first solid state electronic watch developed by Bulova and the module appears to be fully in-house made, unlike the 228 Accuquartz which was developed by Hughes Aircraft. While it's a lovely watch, it's incredibly rare (I believe very few were made) and the panel on mine needs to be resealed, as it turns black after a couple of minutes you keep it on the wrist. I hope to find a spare panel for it before I die...🤣

I love the Computron, but the fact that it needs pushing a button to tell the time is utterly disappointing.
Totally get that. Same for most LEDs - hence why “constant display” LCDs won out in the late 70s
