This was immensely enjoyable to watch. A simple beer run on Buddy, Ruby hamming it up, and an appearance by Otto. I don't recall Otto ever appearing before, which begs the question: Are you forced to feature Economical Rides on your motorcycle channel because Otto consumes the rest of your resources? My wife and I have 2 MBs, neither of which is new, and the annual basic servicing costs would probably feed an African village for a couple of years, no problem; those children would be positively obese, and they would have enough money left over to buy flyswatters. I would love to see and hear the Otto story. Thank you for the video, Garry!
Thanks mate. Long time no hear ! Not much of a story to tell really. Otto is a '92 500 SL and I bought him about thirteen years ago as a second car, a "fun" car really. At the time I only had the one bike and felt like I had time for a second car. Later, I started doing UA-cam and started having to spend more time riding, I also bought more bikes and eventually we arrived at the point where Otto is surplus to requirements, I simply don't have time to use him anymore. So he has been up for sale for the past year but I can't really be bothered with the many chancers who get in touch. Unless somebody sounds like they really want the car, I just don't get back to them. Fair to say that my attempts at selling so far have been somewhat half-hearted. Otto doesn't really cost me anything because he only does about 500 miles in a year. Every two years I change the oil ( which comes out like new of course ! ) and that's about it really. I can leave him for six months on his CTEK charger and go out, fire him up and he drives like he has been in constant use. Such a great car for occasional use. Very happy with him but he deserves to be with somebody who will use him more and has a decent mechanic who can sort out some of his little issues. I had a good mechanic initially but since he died, I can't take Otto anywhere. Most workshops end up breaking stuff because they have no clue what they are doing. So my quest to solve his little issues has come to an end. He can stay as he is for now and I will use him when I can. But because of that, he isn't really costing me anything apart from the annual insurance and the odd shot of petrol now and then 🙂 Because I am so focused on motorcycles being my hobby now, having just added YET ANOTHER bike to the stable, I need to make a more concerted effort to find Otto a new home in 2025 ! What a beutiful beer run. And beer at a gas station! Just like where I live. In North Carolina , they have drive through beer shops. You can drive through a building that has young ladies that will grab your beer and munchies and put it in the vehicle for you and of course tips are encouraged. Mostly at the shore area. Looks like things are well and life is in the positive. I will look into a challenge for ER! 😊
I want to visit one of these drive through beer shops Blake !!!! But at least the gas station here is open on a Sunday and sells beer, wine and spirits. Without them, on a Sunday I would have been screwed and would have remained beerless. Cheers young man. All the best from Spain ! Garry & Ruby

Hi James. Glad to hear that you are ok. I did send you a DM on Insta because I hadn't heard from you for a while and was a bit worried ! I've been and gone and said it now James, so it has to be egg nog, I'm afraid. And I certainly won*t be mixing it with beer or anything else ! I am hoping to go shopping next week and intend to buy two bottles of nog. One for the show and one for prior resistance training, which should commence next week. I need to get used to the stuff, build up my resistance 😂 Hopefully Steve comes up with something challenging for himself and doesn't try and wimp out on me ! I'm intending to look at the calendar next week and will then fix the date with Steve and let everybody know. Neither the 411 nor the 450 Sherpa singles come close William. That 350 is such a soulful engine and just so good in so many ways. A true masterpiece. To be honest, since the J Series, I can't even appreciate the 650 twins any more. That engine just seems a bit "meh" to me now, although for its time, it was one of the more characterful mid sized twins. Take care William, hope you get the odd nice riding day here and there ! Morning Peter ! Well sometimes you just have a beer thirst. This was one of those days. After my exertions cleaning vehicles in the sunshine, I was tired and thirsty. And I had a thirst for beer. That doesn't happen often, I am more of a wine, spirits, cocktails type of chap, but occasionally only beer will do. Because I am not really a beer drinker, when I get a beer thirst, I inevitably have no beer in the house. I need to get the job better organised 😛 Fortunately in this instance, Ruby and Buddy were able to help out and I managed to get a video out of it as well. Well, just about ! You be careful with your coffee/marmalade emergencies Peter. Riding on ice is very iffy. It has been a while since I've had to do it, but I did it a fair amount in my youth, one foot dragging down each side as I slithered out of our estate in the early morning ! 😱 Take care Peter. @economicalrides Good morning Garry. The worst of it was that my trip was in vain as the only marmalade remotely worthy of the name was a poor imitation of my usual. That I get sent up to me from the South (well, delivered with my weekly shop). This was so finely shredded to have very little flavour of the supposed Seville oranges. Yes riding on black ice was a common danger back when we had to go to college or work in winter wasn't it. Frozen again this morning here. Hope your day goes well 👍

Morning Garry did a beer run on the Vespa yesterday after trying all and sundry in my immediate area for yuasa YTX9-BS battery for the classic, every outlet either had every battery except anything made by yuasa, or was open, but actually shut ! Or yes we can order it 😊 but €79 please 😳😡 so dropped into lidle for Beer n home Amazon to the rescue €55 free p&p 😊. Love buddy’s little routine, they do crack me up, chilli’s routine for her morning walk depends on if Sarah or me walk her for Sarah she always turns left at the gate leaving home, for me she always turns right in the hope we walk into town and I have a cafe crème she sits on my lap and has the crème off my coffee and the biscuit,😂 Nice little bimble out mate chilli says hi to Ruby, That lot in France 🇫🇷
Hi Pete. So where did you get the correct type number for a Yuasa battery for the Classic ? I've had people on here asking. If you know what Yuasa call their suitable battery, it makes it a lot easier to find and buy one online, knowing that it will fit. That's a good price if it fits. I paid more than that for the EXIDE for Buddy. Chilli has you wrapped around her paw. She knows that if she turns right she can convince you to go into town and that gives her a decent shot at an additional tasty treat or two. Well Garry I’ve always used yuasa on all my bikes and scooters, so tried to find the one that fitted the classic, every source seemed a bit vague so went on yuasa UK to “find your battery”of course not the make and model, but registration and mines french so rang Mike and asked him to go on the site and put his meteor reg in ( same battery ) but he had already done it and confirmed it is a YTX9 - BS, online in the description it said petite for the size, (Amazon) hope this helps, it’s coming on the 2nd Dec so will let you know asap, Sarah says yeah,chilli has me wrapped round her paw but the cats have me running around them like their skivy 😊 😂😂😂😂 …. It was sunny here yesterday and the day before but the roads around here are still mucky, from Storm Bert, that dumped a month's worth of rain on us, over the weekend and the traffic and pedestrians never change. Also the temperature has been barely above freezing. Anyway, just to reassure you, I haven't heard on the news, about any apocalyptic events in Spain, so I think the lack of people about, is just part of the charm of that part of the world. Enjoy. No beer should be a national emergency... get to da choppa! I spent quite a good amount of time cleaning my Tuareg the other day.... then proceeded to ride it through loads of sloppy mud, so it is filthy again... which is why I often just think it best to leave them dirty... think I've said it before, a protective layer of mud just like the Mary Rose had in the Solent and many older woment use to make them beautiful once again! 😀 Eggnog is disgusting! 😀good luck with a pint of it! 😀 Good of Ruby to offer entertainment as reward for taking her for a spin 🙂 Fingers crossed for your next spin. 😂 Yes. Washing bikes that are going to end up on a trail somewhere soon does seem extremely pointless. Norman is lucky if he gets one hose down in the winter. Once the ban kicks in and he is back to road use only, he gets a proper wash. like Buddy. But no, definitely the time of year when you should be working on refining that layer of protective mud. I'm not sure that dust has the same effect, judging by the rust on some of Norman's fasteners ! Yeah, I really don't like egg nog and I'm not even sure that it is SAFE to drink a pint of the stuff, but I'll give it a go. It will be my contribution to the world's scientific understanding of the tolerance of the human organism to egg nog. There could be a posthumous Nobel prize in it for me ! Ruby is such a good girl. She just wants to see me laugh/smile. That's pretty much all she lives for, apart from sossidges of course. She is just the best companion a chap could wish for, no doubt. And she loves motorbikes, gets so excited when we go up to the garage to fetch one down, bless her. It is a shame that decent sidecar outfits are so hard to come by here. 🍺🍺🍺 👍 I have both dash cam and Car play on Sydney. Been running them for about a year with no issues other than all the wires that need to be added to the battery and or the electrical system. Both came from China in about a week🤔 Just put Sydney away for her winter nap

My wife and I have 2 MBs, neither of which is new, and the annual basic servicing costs would probably feed an African village for a couple of years, no problem; those children would be positively obese, and they would have enough money left over to buy flyswatters. Not much of a story to tell really.
Otto is a '92 500 SL and I bought him about thirteen years ago as a second car, a "fun" car really. At the time I only had the one bike and felt like I had time for a second car. Later, I started doing UA-cam and started having to spend more time riding, I also bought more bikes and eventually we arrived at the point where Otto is surplus to requirements, I simply don't have time to use him anymore. So he has been up for sale for the past year but I can't really be bothered with the many chancers who get in touch. Unless somebody sounds like they really want the car, I just don't get back to them. Fair to say that my attempts at selling so far have been somewhat half-hearted. Otto doesn't really cost me anything because he only does about 500 miles in a year. Every two years I change the oil ( which comes out like new of course ! ) and that's about it really. I can leave him for six months on his CTEK charger and go out, fire him up and he drives like he has been in constant use. Such a great car for occasional use. Very happy with him but he deserves to be with somebody who will use him more and has a decent mechanic who can sort out some of his little issues. I had a good mechanic initially but since he died, I can't take Otto anywhere. Most workshops end up breaking stuff because they have no clue what they are doing. So my quest to solve his little issues has come to an end. He can stay as he is for now and I will use him when I can. But because of that, he isn't really costing me anything apart from the annual insurance and the odd shot of petrol now and then 🙂
Because I am so focused on motorcycles being my hobby now, having just added YET ANOTHER bike to the stable, I need to make a more concerted effort to find Otto a new home in 2025 !

What a beutiful beer run. And beer at a gas station! Just like where I live. In North Carolina , they have drive through beer shops. You can drive through a building that has young ladies that will grab your beer and munchies and put it in the vehicle for you and of course tips are encouraged. Mostly at the shore area. Looks like things are well and life is in the positive. I will look into a challenge for ER! 😊

But at least the gas station here is open on a Sunday and sells beer, wine and spirits. Without them, on a Sunday I would have been screwed and would have remained beerless.

Many nice roads but much wind here in the valley. Can't complain though. Compared to when I lived in the UK and Germany, I am still getting out on a bike way more than I ever managed there !

I should probably google whether drinking a pint of egg nog could prove fatal in some circumstances but I can't be bothered. I'll just give it a go and see what happens 😂 I'll certainly be drinking a lot of water at the same time, just to wash the horrid taste out of my mouth !

Little Ruby is just the funniest and sweetest dog ever. All she wants to do is make me happy. She is simply the best and clearly enjoys being on UA-cam. Not just for the very kind sossidge donations either. She clearly likes being "famous" on the telly !
Yep. The unit from China has arrived already ( only took a week to get here ! ) and I tested it with a USB battery and it fires up, so now I just need to get it nailed onto Norman and then I can keep up with Corrie whilst I'm out riding 😂 Awesome !

Neither the 411 nor the 450 Sherpa singles come close William. That 350 is such a soulful engine and just so good in so many ways. A true masterpiece.
To be honest, since the J Series, I can't even appreciate the 650 twins any more. That engine just seems a bit "meh" to me now, although for its time, it was one of the more characterful mid sized twins.

Well sometimes you just have a beer thirst. This was one of those days. After my exertions cleaning vehicles in the sunshine, I was tired and thirsty. And I had a thirst for beer. That doesn't happen often, I am more of a wine, spirits, cocktails type of chap, but occasionally only beer will do. Because I am not really a beer drinker, when I get a beer thirst, I inevitably have no beer in the house. I need to get the job better organised 😛
Fortunately in this instance, Ruby and Buddy were able to help out and I managed to get a video out of it as well. Well, just about !
You be careful with your coffee/marmalade emergencies Peter. Riding on ice is very iffy. It has been a while since I've had to do it, but I did it a fair amount in my youth, one foot dragging down each side as I slithered out of our estate in the early morning ! 😱

@economicalrides Good morning Garry. The worst of it was that my trip was in vain as the only marmalade remotely worthy of the name was a poor imitation of my usual. That I get sent up to me from the South (well, delivered with my weekly shop). This was so finely shredded to have very little flavour of the supposed Seville oranges.
Yes riding on black ice was a common danger back when we had to go to college or work in winter wasn't it. Frozen again this morning here. Hope your day goes well 👍

Morning Garry did a beer run on the Vespa yesterday after trying all and sundry in my immediate area for yuasa YTX9-BS battery for the classic, every outlet either had every battery except anything made by yuasa, or was open, but actually shut ! Or yes we can order it 😊 but €79 please 😳😡 so dropped into lidle for Beer n home Amazon to the rescue €55 free p&p 😊.
Love buddy’s little routine, they do crack me up, chilli’s routine for her morning walk depends on if Sarah or me walk her for Sarah she always turns left at the gate leaving home, for me she always turns right in the hope we walk into town and I have a cafe crème she sits on my lap and has the crème off my coffee and the biscuit,😂

Hi Pete. So where did you get the correct type number for a Yuasa battery for the Classic ? I've had people on here asking. If you know what Yuasa call their suitable battery, it makes it a lot easier to find and buy one online, knowing that it will fit.
That's a good price if it fits. I paid more than that for the EXIDE for Buddy.

She knows that if she turns right she can convince you to go into town and that gives her a decent shot at an additional tasty treat or two. Clearly Chilli is the boss in this relationship 😂

Well Garry I’ve always used yuasa on all my bikes and scooters, so tried to find the one that fitted the classic, every source seemed a bit vague so went on yuasa UK to “find your battery”of course not the make and model, but registration and mines french so rang Mike and asked him to go on the site and put his meteor reg in ( same battery ) but he had already done it and confirmed it is a YTX9 - BS, online in the description it said petite for the size, (Amazon) hope this helps, it’s coming on the 2nd Dec so will let you know asap, Sarah says yeah,chilli has me wrapped round her paw but the cats have me running around them like their skivy 😊 😂😂😂😂 …. @@economicalrides Haha yes Garry, I do know that we only see the nice days that you are able to film in glorious sunshine, it was just a bit of weather envy, getting the better of me. It was sunny here yesterday and the day before but the roads around here are still mucky, from Storm Bert, that dumped a month's worth of rain on us, over the weekend and the traffic and pedestrians never change. Also the temperature has been barely above freezing.
Anyway, just to reassure you, I haven't heard on the news, about any apocalyptic events in Spain, so I think the lack of people about, is just part of the charm of that part of the world. Enjoy.
Keep making your lovely videos, when you get the chance and I, for one, will continue to enjoy them and think about warmer days to come.

It's certainly a quiet life that I lead here but it suits me somehow. It also makes riding/driving a lot more enjoyable too when there are less "people" about, of course.

We used to still get the odd crisp, sunny day in winter ( when I was in the UK and Germany ) and if it's dry then it is still quite nice to ride in, it gives you a rare chance to get out on a bike.

I spent quite a good amount of time cleaning my Tuareg the other day.... then proceeded to ride it through loads of sloppy mud, so it is filthy again... which is why I often just think it best to leave them dirty... think I've said it before, a protective layer of mud just like the Mary Rose had in the Solent and many older woment use to make them beautiful once again! 😀

Yes. Washing bikes that are going to end up on a trail somewhere soon does seem extremely pointless. Norman is lucky if he gets one hose down in the winter. Once the ban kicks in and he is back to road use only, he gets a proper wash. like Buddy. But no, definitely the time of year when you should be working on refining that layer of protective mud. I'm not sure that dust has the same effect, judging by the rust on some of Norman's fasteners !
Yeah, I really don't like egg nog and I'm not even sure that it is SAFE to drink a pint of the stuff, but I'll give it a go. It will be my contribution to the world's scientific understanding of the tolerance of the human organism to egg nog. There could be a posthumous Nobel prize in it for me !
Ruby is such a good girl. She just wants to see me laugh/smile. That's pretty much all she lives for, apart from sossidges of course. She is just the best companion a chap could wish for, no doubt. And she loves motorbikes, gets so excited when we go up to the garage to fetch one down, bless her. It is a shame that decent sidecar outfits are so hard to come by here. She'd absolutely love coming out with Daddy. 🥰

🍺🍺🍺 👍 I have both dash cam and Car play on Sydney. Been running them for about a year with no issues other than all the wires that need to be added to the battery and or the electrical system. Both came from China in about a week🤔 Just put Sydney away for her winter nap

Very happy with it so far, looks like a nice little gimmick, just need to locate a live wire connected to the ignition somewhere and then I can set about "nailing it" to Norman.
