At some point, people seem to have forgotten what floodplains are. It used to be "don't build too close to the river, it floods there", and now it's, "hey, look at this nice flat land right next to the river, let's build all our stuff here"
Like the videos of Asheville, the railroad which is built at the 100-year flood mark, was untouched. Everything below it - in the flood plain - was destroyed. Who insures structures built in a flood plain along a river??

My heart just aches for everyone caught in the path of these terrible storms. There will be more storms, more deaths, more grief if we don't elect a leader willing to do what's needed! The Democrat presidential candidate has a plan of action against climate change. The Repubican candidate doesn't even believe in it. We have a choice to make in November. I hope we choose wisely. My prayers for all those harmed in this terrible storm.
Funny how few "divine retribution" comments I see for this disaster. I'm scathing my head trying to figure what's the difference is. I do see "weather control" memes though.

I spent about 5 months in Erwin. Sorry to see this.
