I love the sourdough home! On cooler days it activates my starter perfectly and on warmer days it makes sure he doesnt eat too fast. I particularly like it for the overnight leavin as by the morning the levain has peaked and perfectly ready for baking. Before the home my leavin had always deflated by the morning. I'm getting much better rise in my loaves now because of this. The deflated levain made my dough more acidic and broke down the gluten. Now with the home the levain is perfect and has imrpoved the bread rise. A friend of mine also bought one as she lives in a colder climate and its helping her a lot too.
8 yeas ago I made a proofing box out of foam board and a heating pad controlled by an Omega temperature controller. It only heats but where I live that is all I need. I also added a heating pad to a refrigerator controlled by a $15 controller that turns on the heating pad or the compressor to hold the inside at a 2 to 3 degree F temperature. It works in an environment of 110F to -40F.
I was on the fence between these two devices, but ended up going with the B&T because of its ability warm and cool, as required. It's worked very well for me as a twice weekly baker as of late. But if we're going away for longer than a few days I will put my starter in the fridge and decommission this temporarily.
I have something similar, is a mini fridge based on peltier cell. I have bought one to maintain my stiff sourdough. Due the limited space the chamber is affected by the humidity when is set in cooling mode. This doesn't allow to monitor the crust tickness that is an important parameter for stiff sourdough 😊
Years ago I lived in Dublin I was invited to a friends for Christmas. I baked a bunch of cookies for a gift. Due to the dampness, I stored them in the oven. Christmas morning I forgot where I had stored them and turned on the oven. So I had nothing to give for Christmas.

Thanks for a great review as always! I just ordered the proofer from Brød & Taylor so I will use that and the fridge for a while and then reevaluate the need for a Sourdough home :)
I just purchased one last week and I have an IVYX Scientific 25L incubator arriving tomorrow. My sourdough journey, which I started almost a year ago, has been very difficult during these very warm summer months. I’m hoping these innovative techie products will help me achieve greater control and understanding of this endeavor. Thanks for all you do.
is it very noisy? I've been looking into it, but all of the mini fridges I've seen are terribly loud, so I got a little worried. (small apartment issues!)
Yeah, you lost me on this one (and the Goldie) Sune. You didn't tell us WHY this is important/needed. I keep pint jars (500ml) in the fridge with 5-10g. of SD residue. The night before I bake, I remove one (or more) jars, add 100ml water and 100ml flour, give it a good stir and leave on the counter. Viola, in the morning, I have an almost overflowing jar with 200g active starter!

I have a question..I let my Starter live in there 24/7. Am I suppose to?
@@beckyshields700 yes that's what it's designed for. I just use the fridge as well as I like seeing my starter when I open the fridge 😁
I am in Canada. I ordered the Brod and Taylor on my local amazon. Thank you so much for your review.
Hope you like it! 😁

It's cool, and it works. Not something most people have the skills to do, though 😊
@@FoodgeekThere are simple inexpensive seed germination mats which ahould do the trick.
@@gattamomThe difference is this gadget cools 😊

Just a bit of a hum. No problem for me, and I am super noise sensitive 😊
@@Foodgeek thank you so much! ☻
Not @ all, in fact I can’t hear it!
Thx for filming this and sharing it with us.
Thank you for sharing this interesting description!
I have their proofing box and it's great. But i wish it was taller to better fit kombucha
I’d rather use my B&T proofer instead, more multifunctional.
I have both. The B&T proofer doesn't cool. I keep the SDH very cool (but warmer than fridge). Very helpful during the summer months.

Nearly 4 minutes in and I didn't see a limb of the gedget...
And no visuals on how it works!
Design and Contruction? Correct that typo.
