Android TV will always be there as long as Google TV and Fire TV are because those are just Android with Google/Amazon skins, ads, etc. TV’s may more commonly come with the name brand version, which would probably help their sales, but there will always be stock android TV. It’s the same with phones, most come with Google’s version of Android with Google Play store and all the background Google stuff, but there is always a stock version of AOSP that those are based on. Hopefully people keep finding ways to install the stock version over the Google version.
Google literally invented Android. There is no Google version of Android, Android is Google.
@@JoeZelensky Google acquired Android and it’s developed by the Open Handset Alliance, which includes Google. They’re the primary developers, but there is the AOSP open source version free of all the Google stuff previously mentioned, various other versions without Google said, and then there’s the version in most phones. Google is a (major) part of the consortium of developers working on AOSP but when people say the Google version, they mean the standard version with Google software. When they say stock Android or de-Googled, they mean without all that.
@@Christopherjoe if you want to get technical it is actually a version of Linux. There were no viable AOSP OS's until well after Google released several iterations of Android. Besides Google literally bought Android Inc in July 2005. And all the Android Inc worked for Google after that.
@@JoeZelensky yes, I know. It’s sort of a Linux distro as it’s based on the Linux kernel. My point was that AOSP or versions like Graphene, Calyx, Lineage, etc do not have Google apps or anything.

Well essentially it is their device, you just bought it. You could actually just build your own device and OS, its really not that hard.

personally, i like android better. i find google to b a bit more restrictive of wat i can do on it. also, i dont like that it pretty much cuts off the live tv functgion. it does not allow me to add additional apps.

I have an Android Tv for a few years and I love that I installed my Own app ( 3rd Party Apps Like KODI ETC.). so if the same can be done with Google TV makes no difference then.

I think Nvidia will keep Android Tv and possibly rebrand it similar to Samsung or LG with android on phones. Google makes a great OS for others to build on top of and I think with a newer android powered Nvidia Shield it would do the same. Maybe they call it Nvidia Shield TV or something along those lines?
Nope July 5th 2023 Google TV now on Nevada Shield and it sucks because I can't add live channels channels to Google TV live so if I want to watch the channels from my receiver I have to use the live channels which don't show up in Google TV live
Chromecast with GoogleTV's Hulu app doesn't support 5.1 surround, for some reason, and it's been like this for well over a year. That said does the Nvidia Shield TV/Pro support 5.1 on Hulu?

I have both the Onn boxes are decent I even put a lot of storage on it I do have all NVIDIA shields and apple devices Onn devices are made by Google for Walmart that is why they are decent

My issue with android tv (and it might not be the software) is that it's always on and drains the resources in the tv making it laggy over a short period of time. I've installed a timer power outlet on mine to turn it off and on again every night but don't want to do that really. Anyone know if google tv stays snappy over time and dosn't get laggy like android tv does?
You talked about TV's and streaming devices...What about all the cell phone companies using Android? I doubt they will migrate over and then have to pay Google.......Also , what about the giant open community Android has ? Will Google open their doors for 3rd party development....I doubt it!!!

I've been using a Google Chromecast HD for 3 years now. It wouldn't be any different to me.
Some streaming apps are slower than others. Reason i prefer categorizing via apps rather than shows. Plus TVs are more personalized now, there is practically one in every bedroom. So no need for different profiles. All i want is to watch my shows, fast and easy, no need to over complicate it.... It's still Android TV for me then.

Google tv no match on Nvidia shield tv pro using Android tv. If you have your own movie library Google TV is slow and buffering issues. NVIDIA kill Google TV from get go.
But I wonder how much of that is based on the hardware. If the shield had Google TT, would it be better?
@Triple M Yes, it will be good as well, but I will still use Nvidia Sheild because of their specs and hardware capabilities are way better.

Google will monopolize everything and so means to others nothing can grown-up in this area. Sooner or later advertisers will rule all screens.
Google started going bad when they got rid of the swipe to dismiss cards on the Google now phone launcher. Since then, Google has been in steady decline. So much so that I've now switched to the Edge browser on the desktop and phone because it's just better. I have a TV with the GoogleTV OS and I absolutely loathe it. It's buggy as hell. I've had Android TV boxes in the past and my conclusion is Android and TV just don't go together well. I bypass the GoogleOS. I use a FiretTV 4k max and it is soooooo much better than this GoogleTV crap. Everything is snappy about it and not buggy at all. Google has gone from good to evil over the years. AI will put the final nail in Google's coffin and will be just another America Online from the past. Good riddance I say.

Android still has swipe to dismiss. And Google will be the first to integrate AI with phones. Already there is some implementation of Bard.
