USS Darkstar is a really old mod for half life, and pretty impressive for it's time since it was a bit of custom dialogue, clean looking maps, and overall good aesthetic. And even though these days, mods have custom skins, textures, and a whole load of other stuff, this one still manages to remain good looking despite how old it is.

Classic mod right here, This was the first ever Half-Life mod I played after I found the PC Gamer disk that carries this mod and a demo of Half-Life.
What's fascinating is how despite it's age this mod set a standard about mods that I still look for, The mod gave me a sort of Aliens feeling with the Spaceship, The "Chestburster" scene being remade with the headcrab/barney guard and it was generally more atmospheric then I expected it to be, One of my most played mods.
I had the disk too with this mod. This mod was creepy back in the day. I was surprised when I saw this on Steam store.
Probably one of the first mods I ever played and one of the things that got me into level design. I probably owe quite a lot to this mod.

Oooh, I remember getting this on some magazine cd-rom before I had internet access at home. The concept of "mods" that give you new content *for free!* just blew my mind back then.
In I think the PS2 version of HL1, there's an unused voice line of what's said at 2:00, but spoken by the actual VA.
This is the only reason I know about this mod.
Also, these early mods that use characters from the original game despite being otherwise original are always weird.
There’s the ability to play uplink by using a cheat code to unlock an extras menu then inserting a PlayStation magazine disk. Maybe Gearbox or Valve wanted to get around to adding mods to PS2 but never got around to it

Did you know that the line about the force field barriers and power outage was in the files of half life decay?
It was redubbed by the official scientist actor there, however.
Randy pitchford said they just recorded that line for fun.

Very impressive indeed! I feel like they liked the destruction set-pieces and thought "oh yes, people will look all through that epic rubble!". So y'know, weird puzzles with constant head trauma from explosions.
Actually, you WERE correct at 0:27 that is Mars. That large canyon was the Vallis Marineris. So noice
The Problem Of This Mod Is That Theres Glasses EVERYWHERE That Breaks When You Step On Them. It Reduces Hp And Armor.
Just found your brilliant They Hunger playthrough, and now you're playing another classic from Neil Manke! Considering their age I'm surprised how well they still hold up. You should check out Peaces Like Us, another rather old mod from 2007-ish.
I remember when I was just discovering half life when I was like 4 years old, 2006-2007 and my dad bought a 2nd use windows xp pc and I used to play this mod, being completely horrified by it. Also I never saved my games because i knew no english, I'm suprised I navigated through the New Game button

Man, awesome video as always, but would you please consider turning off that repetitive music when something dark, nasty, horrifying is happening? Or changing it for other soundtrack? It is taking appart the suspense of the gameplay :/, I remember Sprucecape vid that was terryfingly splendid but the music cutted it out ;(

Oh shit, I think I played this mod once back in the day. I forget if it was this or the one that took place in a deep sea research facility that I had an _infuriating_ amount of time-based segments - probably the deep sea one, because I think it involved drowning a lot.
I mean, it could've been this one too, based on all the bullshit "rocks fall player dies" moments I saw
Ah this was a pretty cool mod, I actually played it a few weeks ago in Sven Coop. I think it was a bit modified though, or maybe some other player had found the button behind the shelves lol but there was another key that we couldn't find, we were like 20 minutes or so just running around trying to find something. I didn't know it was that old though, but yeah it makes sense now that you mentioned it.

They hunger did have 3 acts, which I think are the sequels. Unless you mean a source engine sequel.

(Also this reminds me of this vanilla compatible Doom mod from back in the mid 90’s, Icarus Alien Vanguard. I think some of the people tho developed TNT Evilution made that one.)
