Thank you MB's for putting a review of a whiskey that we can find almost everywhere. I know that no matter what you do, there will be dissatisfied people, but so many reviews of regional whiskeys, that you can only buy if you live in the distillery area, make the channel less attractive (in my opinion). The supermarket I usually go, sells this "Smooth" series and they almost always end up in discounts (apparently it hasn't been very popular) if I see that bottle for less than €10 I'll buy it. Cheers
I do some lumberjack work in Japan from time to time and have cut down a few mizunara trees. This whiskey smells exactly like the tree when it is freshly cut, it shocked me the last time I cut one down after having a dram of this the night before.
Everything Dewars has put out in the Smooth line has been quite good and very affordable too (~$20 a bottle in Oregon). Finding it has not be super easy but not too hard either.
I'm glad you broke down the gluten stuff my wife and mother have Celiac disease so thats good to know

Wow, a bigger upgrade than the Ilegal? I really enjoyed what the aging in Ilegal Mexcal barrels did (it also got me to try Ilegal, which I like). Now I need to look for this one.
had this recommended to me by my local seller who basically knows 80% of my cupboard's contents 😂😂. he sait although it was a big name and very affordable he was quite amazed by it and i should try it. boy he wasn't wrong. opened it up with 2 friends on saturday afternoon and it was done for on sunday evening. for the price i've never had something as nice as this.

But your review of this being the nicer Dewar's you've ever had makes me interested in this whisky.
I got the bottle, I really like this one.
I think I'm going to get other Smooth series.
Fun Fact: In Japan, this whisky is not distributed widely yet. I got this from a liquor shop that imported this bottle.
The French, Portuguese and Caribbean smooth are all way better than the Japanese one
I have yet to have anything that was mizunara finished/aged in mizunara that didn't have a cinnamon raisin toast note.
Thanks Daniel for bringing up the E150 gluten thing, really interesting! Seems like a possibly dangerous (for some people) aspect that can easily be overlooked!
Thankfully it's false. Legally caramel coloring isn't allowed to be produced from allergenic base materials. Neutral carbohydrates like sugar are used along with a few variable chemical additives to achieve the desired pigment from yellow to dark brown.

I am not sure what exactly they did but I like this much more then regular Dewar’s. I have finished off 4-5 bottles of this as a cheap everyday almost Japanese whiskey 😂
try the Dewars 12 year, its cheaper than this and much better imo

I think the jist of that last question was (to take it to the extreme): if you were to plug your nose, open a bottle, pour it, take a sip, swallow, THEN unplug your nose and experience the finish, would the finish be more "intense" than if you had been nosing the glass for a couple minutes beforehand?
For the money this is a great whisky, the Portuguese version is one of my favorite "dailies". Too bad they don't seem to be importing it into my country anymore.
I love love love Chivas mizunara release. Not the biggest fan of dewars white label but this intrigues me.

I kept trying to tell people about this bottle. I got three on my shelf. Why wouldn't they just re-use a new mizunara oak barrel?
I have had the Dewars Rum Cask, mostly the good batch. Recently I found some of the that bad batch that you also experienced. Thats enough to put me off their casks experiments totally. Good luck and glad you are up to the challenge. I have tried all their casks series,, No more for me.
Comparison to White Label isn't completely appropriate. While White Label once had an eight year age statement, it no longer does (hasn't for a long time). So the difference between 8yo Mizunara and White Label may not relate simply to the barrels, but also to a longer aged whiskey and perhaps a different blend. Nevertheless, grateful for the review and glad to know this is a more interesting scotch than Dewars' entry level.
I think it is cool for the price. I need to get the latest French Smooth one. I have had the rest. You guys loved the Ilegal Smooth.
I have had this from the start. Went in to get a second bottle of the "Ilegal Smooth", and found this sitting there next to it.
It’s not difficult to find in my area but it’s super cheap and sells out fast!
Dewers white label is only aged 3 years.
I enjoyed it, had the Caribbean and liked it too. I'm looking forward to the French.

I found almost every Dewar's finished bottle will end with similar positive comments except the "Caribbean Smooth", but that bottle is from an outsider batch (based on Dewar's feedback and Daniel's re-test).
I have it. It is something that takes a little getting used to for me.
People be mad about reviews “that I’ll never be able to buy” but tbh I don’t care about the story behind the $25 bottle on the shelf at Walmart lol I love the story and lore behind the rare and unique bottles even if I’ll never find one in the wild

Subscription booster idea, for dry week, do a video going back to the tree stump video about building a distillery, compress the build, let every get to know the staff. Mention still it ( he got me into you guys ), gorge and B and B. That trippy girl named B, adds heaps to the tribe, get her in the vault. The 6 month mizunara aging is definitely not the only difference affecting the taste. Pretty sure White Label is one of those "minimum three years" blends, so if the Japanese Smooth is at least eight years, that's probably affecting the taste the most.

I had COVID a year back, lost all sense of smell for a while, so of course I had to test how things taste. Whisky (The Belgian Owl in this case) does NOT taste good without the smell profile, pretty much just thin vodka taste.
So the finishing thing is like the ship of Theseus? Lol
Still waiting for the actual review 😅.

This is the worst of the Dewar's smooth, not because its bad but very dry, very few flavors coming through. I do hope they continue the 8yr line though, as the other s I've tried are all great.

So i'm looking at a Dewars 32 year ol bottle that is ONLY 0.5 litres and am wondering if it is worth the price of 248 $ / 255 E (for reference, that's about the price of a Blue Label)
