Well - its 2024 and we don't have flying cars. But at least we have multi-meters with a Star Trek like color screen.

    OH. MY. GOD.
Dude, you just made my day.
It never occurred to me that the spacing between the jacks is (more or less) standardized.
And even better: ¾" is 19mm, which is the standard pin spacing of any European power outlet. And guess what: The 2-prong Europlug has 4mm pins.
Now the next time I'm stuck with a multimeter without leads, I can simply use a Europlug cable. This is a gamechanger!!!
    I can't thank you enough!!!

not the best approach but i confess that i've been doing that for years 😂 if you gonna do it, use the plugs with smaller diameter pins, they are at most 3.8mm according to the standards, the plug usually has a bit of taper/angle/springiness on the pins which compensates for the lack of diameter.

I've been using a mains plug to set the spacing every time I put banana jacks on a device.

Fancy graphics are cool but they mean nothing if the meter displays nothing more than a regular meter. If the meter has various minor glitches then it is basically a fail. The display could show graphs and actual graphics stuff. Even some small auxiliary numbers for min/max, etc would be nice. Back to the drawing board for this one.

I have this meter. I purchased it because of the excellent display for use in non-precision 12v work. It worked great for the most part, but one day I used it to check continuity and the meter beeped and displayed 0 ohms (in non-auto mode) when I knew it was physically impossible. I drove an hour to pick up both my Fluke 87Vs (and some other gear) to verify that I wasn't going crazy. It turns out the DMT-99 was somehow giving me a false reading.
I'm probably just going to buy one of those Agilent/Keysight handheld meters with the OLED screen at this point. Despite my non-precision use, I can no longer trust this meter.

Agree, I've always bought the best stuff i could, if my Fluke ever breaks I'll be looking at keysight or Agilent, not a budget meter.

@@monteceitomoocher I was hoping this was going to be a meter with a good screen that I could keep in my car. If I didn't get the false continuity reading, I'd probably still be using it. I should have known something was wrong when I shorted the multimeter probes and got a perfect zero ohm reading. Lol.

The UNI-T UT123D us very similar at about half the price, but not so glitzy.

Is it a true RMS meter? Also, it seems to have a recording option, would have liked to see that tested.

A fresh looking screen, but not having standard lead spacing is a huge no-go for me (but if you just need a meter with leads, it shouldn't matter)

Wait... does the 10 ohm range only have 2.5 digits resolution? With it not having a milivolts range and the digits changing in discrete steps.

  • @ryanokeefe12
    @ryanokeefe12 5 місяців тому

The issue with the 10ohm reading at around 7:00 looks to be related to the switch in the decimal point location. It jumps from 10.00 to 9.900.. looks like it's a resolution thing.
I'm not sure why the device not reading in mV is an issue when its accuracy/resolution is 1mV.. there's no point in a mV mode when the device is only going to show zeroes after a decimal.

Display is realy nice, and the beeper mode is okay - especially compared with lots of other not so expensive meters. Next time You test multimeters:could You please check the internal shunt resistor? Some meters use only one shunt for all the mA ranges, okay for the smaller ranges but way to high voltage loss in the higher mA range... In my experience meters with manual ranging only are better for current because shunts are switched with the rotary knob...

I like FNIRSI products. Cheap and cheerful, and mostly more than capable for what I do.
One thing that does annoy me though with all these (non Fluke) meters is the lack of diode beep.
I so desperately want a DMM with a diode beep (it's only software... How hard can it be?), but I don't want to have to sell a body part to get one. 😢
If anyone knows of a cheapo DMM with the diode beep please do let me know!
    Cheers
    Matt

AC measurement? It's seems to do so, but how? True RMS? Or some kind of average... That's my make/break issue on handheld meters. I'd say the best thing about it is the noncontact AC detection: that's something I've not seen on any other handheld. This thing would be great for someone doing electrical work around the house. Not for the lab. Also, that name! Have you tried the LSD-25 model? Display is out of this world!

Is this company going to be the next Rigol? I have a Fnirsi "Table" Scope that's pretty decent for what it is. Input inversion would be nice though.

I dont like these kind of meters with fancy screen, I have one of these from kiweets and another one with LCD. I always prefer the old style LCD ones for anything. These are very power hungry devices. I can leave my LCD on for hours but the kiweets one, i have to make sure to turn off after every measurement as the battery wont last a week if I am not careful.
