Have both and am fond of each. I agree that they are not flankers of each other. They are different. Both wonderful, classy, gentlemen scents. On a side note, I love the bottle design as well.
The original is a wonderful, classic fragrance! Fresh, bright, clean and slightly, slightly sweet - from the geranium. Yet, I prefer Jasmine over Geranium over... so I do like Cologne Intense more than Fougere Royal. I invite everyone to try Cologne Intense. As someone who makes perfumes, I can tell you that green notes in colognes are often constructed from violet leaf absolute, cis 3 hexenol, tetrahydro linalool, hexyl salicylate etc. Anyways, both are amazing!
Great review and explanation on the difference between these two excellent fragrances. I picked up a Houbigant official Cologne Intense sample last year and really liked it. I plan on purchasing both.

I haven't smelled Cologne Intense but when I got the sample for Fougere Royale, I got hooked and got my full bottle recently.

I am so glad I found this company. I was considering Creed as my first "Niche" cologne, but seeing as they are not owned by a particular company I like...It would be nice to find a Niche cologne company that sells in 500ml bottles.

What fragrance would you think or say Cologne Intense is similar to? I have see one review that suggest it is somewhat, maybe similar to Eau Sauvage Vintage. What do ya know? I'm wearing Fougere Royale today! Such an amazing scent. Haven't put my nose on Cologne Intense, but plan to do it soon.
I have figure Royal and I can say that it is on my top 5 list in my 150 fragrance bottle collection. It is Aweeeeeeeesome.
I tried Fougere Royale and I was a little disappointed. I expected a 19th century fougere vibe from it, but it smelled very modern and fresh to me. Guess the original was quite different.

I have Fougere Royale and after watching this video, I sprayed my arm to just get a reminder and its beautiful! The very first note I picked up was cinnamon...and then the green came thru. Very nice. Now...I'm curious about Cologne Intense. Is it blind buy worthy? Hmm.
It may be too late, 3 years later and all, but in reading reviews of the Cologne Intense, it is DEFINITELY NOT blind buy worthy. Try before you buy. A good portion of the reviewers are absolutely repulsed by it. I wish Sebastian would have at least mentioned this, regardless of whether he likes it or not.

Haven't tried the intense but I do have the pure Parfum 10ml Decant travel size one.. love it! All you need is one spray to the chest. Gotta thank my Guy Michal at Neiman Marcus for that

Cologne intense smells like dirt and tea . Reminds me of henna . Definitly not wearable or pleasant . Try b4 you buy . fougere royale is good though

I do have three bottles of 100 ml Fougère Royale and absolutely love its quality and natural smelling.

Nothing like these actually. In fact DDV to me smells a bit like Drakkar Noir frm the 1980s. Love it and probably should review as well! :)

my apologies. This is first video on any small I've ever seen and it;'s just that I love the parfum and I thought I ordered it on line but what came was the gold bottle. My error for not being careful. Any suggestion where I can get it for less than Neiman Marcus? I will buy at NM if that is the best way to do it. Fred

The Extrait is so damn good but so damn expensive! Go with the EDP. Unless you can afford the Extrait! :)

I have the parfum extrait version of Fougere Royale. Wonderful scent, but unfortunately the projection is very poor.. it stays very close to the skin.

Wish I had paid more attention the the Fragrantica reviews than this video. This Houbigant Cologne Intense is disgusting. It's extremely disappointing to have wasted money on this and shocking that the makers of Houbigant Fougere Royale could create something this awful.
So I just took a moment to go and read the Fragrantica reviews of the Cologne Intense. And yes, very mixed reviews with a lot of pure, unadulterated revulsion. It's too bad Sebastian didn't give light to the strong negative reaction among many. Even if he likes it, which he clearly does, it would be a much review and service if "both sides" were highlighted. I won't be buying Cologne Intense, even in sample form. I'm tired of supposedly artful fragrances that smell like ____, or "sour milk" in this case. I have Fougere Royale 2010 and think it is fantastic!
you must be kidding. Whey didn't you address the 3. The parfum from fougere royale is $600 and increcible , The cologn 190 and that look-alike silver bottle cologn is cheaper and there is NO comparison.

FYI If you've been following me you would know I've spoken about Fougere Royale probably over 20 times in different videos and yes I have also spoken about the $600 EXTRAIT. Of course I know it. You think I wouldn't? This video you commented on specifically is a comparison of the two in the same bottle! Now if the title doesn't make sense?
I was really looking forward to your findings about the two Houbigants, the differences, the occasions, the seasons to wear. Although I like your reviews in general, this one must be the last of your best. No content whatsoever. Sorry. And finding FR for $50? I must be looking on the wrong websites.
