    In Australia we have a saying "Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun", you two have been here long enough to understand it now, look closely and you'll see all the native wildlife hides in the shade in the middle of the day and only moves around in the morning and late afternoon. It can be truely 10ºC cooler in the shade of a tree/building than the direct sunlight, when it's 30ºC+ in the shade that 10ºC can easily be the difference between dehydration or not, you'll also notice that Aussies might appear drunk cause they don't walk in a straight line, look closer, they are just walking in the shade as much as possible even if it's a little longer.
    So happy to see you enjoying life on the sunny coast 👍🏼

    Re phone signal, there's a setting on your phone that will use your wifi if the network isn't available, so if thats functioning you can still get a signal.

    My GP is a pom...err English woman and she just recently came back from there and I asked her was she thinking of moving back there with the way Oz is atm. She was horrified and told me there was no way because the UK is much worse than Australia and prices are going haywire there.

      Totally agree that you would have to be crazy! I only went back for a wedding in Ireland 🇮🇪 as I stupidly stated I would NEVER return to the UK but would to Ireland. As had fond memories of working on the farm in both of my Uncles properties in that country. Great trip as the GFC was still hitting them hard 2012 and our exchange rate was so high at that time. You stating first world problem here, I remember having to drive to Tralee from Castlegregory 🇮🇪 just to get a network connection with their best local mobile phone company. You’ve been here no time at all living through the wettest three years, just wait until we had 5 years of dry and see what that does to your house? Have you never been broken down as a result of a heavy snow storm in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 god help you city dwellers. I’ve had accidents or broken down in some god forsaken places in Oz, long before mobiles were a thing and been offered a ride and assistance to get people out of trouble without asking and been returned in kind!

    When growing up with humidity in Brisbane I would say our best way to beat the heat and sweat were the beach, local public swimming pools and the garden hose.

      @@lornamoore5432 Cool, I'm from WA. If your moving to Perth humidity isn't a problem, the Bamalam family are from QLD. Also phone service is fine. Skin cancer, especially melanoma is no joke as we are under the hole in the ozone. Don't get burnt even once. People take it seriously here, although you will see some idiots baking themselves, don't follow their example. I know 3 people to have died from Melanoma. Cover up with clothing. If you have kiddies, they wear swimsuits almost like a onesie. You can buy thicker clothing 50+ from places like the cancer council. I bought arm sleeves to protect my arms while driving and I tinted my car, so it cuts out 99% of UV rays while driving but you can't tint the front window so still need arm sleeves. I actually have a smock I put on to cover my chest, neck if going long distances if needed. Sunscreen, Hats, Sunglasses to protect your eyes when ever outside in the hotter months is crucial (prevent cataracts and macular degeneration when your older) and seek shade. Get skin checked once a year. Check the UV on the BOM (Bureau of Meterology) app. Do all that and you'll be good. That all sounded so bad but its just normal here to get your car tinted and wear sunnies, cover up etc. Expensive living they said but, in a previous video he did mention that they live way better here than when they were in the UK. There is this rise in inflation going on though which hasn't happened in years. Health system - well its not like the NHS. We pay a portion to go to the doctors amd the government pays the orher portion. Emergency is free but if you get admitted it can then cost. If you dont have private health and need an operation you go on a list and wait for 1 to 2 years (unless very serious and an emergency) and its free. If you get private health then you get in quick. If you are in hospital most of it is paid for by the private health. There are some gaps that aren't covered even with top cover but, it's ok not thousands. If don't have private health will get a bill for ambulance about $1000. My private health covers ambulance. I have used an ambulance twice and I didn't pay anything and I don't have top cover. Private health in my opinion is really good and claiming is easy. My private health covers dental, optical, physio as well. Every second year an eye test is free to everyone but the glasses arent. From 45 breast screens are free every second year. From 50 on bowel screens are free ( that is they will test your sample for free). WA has their own private health called HBF which is a not for profit and is excellent but there are others. If you end up unemployed or on a pension of some kind like age or disability, then doctors visits are free and scripts are significantly cheaper.

    i worked for telstra for many years in the telephone exchange and transmission field , all base stations in rural areas , with the exception of large towns like
    dubbo or toowoomba have the mobile phone aerials aimed along the highways, both ways. . Once you move off the main roads linking big centres you experience less
    signal strength and most likely no coverage at all. It is impractical to cover every nook and cranny of the country. if you must have coverage a sat fone is the go.
    or use the biggest carrier as it has the best coverage.

    I’m a practicing Buddhist. Once you realise that “Life is suffering” you can change your mindset. It’s called being Mindful. You are in charge of your mind and how it reacts.
    Another rule I live by is ‘no attachments”. I refuse to associate negative thoughts to the daily “suffering” we all have to experience. How you react to these daily trials is within your power.
    If your stressed or unhappy you have no one to blame but yourself.
    Namaste 🙏 Be kind, be thoughtful.

    I live in rural WA (7 hrs from Perth) and if you don’t have Telstra you have no chance of phone reception. Telstra covers just about all of the country. Sounds like you need to change phone carriers.
    Also, fire is a real threat here. We’ve had to evacuate many times as flames are coming over the hill. I get so sad for the wildlife.
    I once came off my horse and broke my back at home. An ambulance (all volunteers) came and got me and took me to my tiny towns health centre. I was stabilised and driven by ambulance to the next largest town with a hospital. They had me in intensive care until a flying doctor flight could be organised to take me to Perth. I then spent months in hospital in Perth. Without the flying doctor I would have been royally screwed.

    The phone signal thing sucks bigtime, I have a 62 km drive to work at the moment (7months and counting) and I have a signal for the first 60 kms then lose it. I am vodafone, but have had to get a prepaid Telstra sim just to have contact with the outside world while I’m at work. Normally wouldn’t be an issue , but I do 12 hour shifts and it’s an hour drive each way. Too long to be I reachable each day. 😳

    Living in Melbourne or Sydney we struggle with traffic congestion on the roads… especially during peek periods. But, I guess it’s the same in any big city.

    • @daveamies5031
      @daveamies5031 2 роки тому

      I learned to drive in Sydney, I know its traffic well, I can assure you that in Australia we have nothing to complain about with traffic congestion, its much worse in other countries, I once sat in a car in a traffic jam where it took 4 hours to travel 1km, it would have been quicker to walk but safer to stay in the locked car, there is nothing close to that in Australia.

    not having phone service everywhere is a blessing. And yes you definitely need to be prepared for outback travel carry 6l of water per person per day and tell someone where you're going and when you expect to be there. it could be a day or two before someone raises the alarm and another day or two before you're found. you can't survive without water for that long in 40 degree heat.

    • @grandmothergoose
      @grandmothergoose 2 роки тому +1

      Landlines are still a thing, most people just don't bother with them because they have mobile phones and would rather spend their money on a better mobile plan than have to pay for both when they'd rarely use the landline. I'm in the opposite side of that, I have little use for a mobile phone, so I just have a house landline. Most businesses still use landlines, except for the ones where the business is an on-the-road or self-employed type.
