I think the problem with the ultimate edition jacked torsos actually lie with the shoulders. They protrude way too far out making the top of the figure look way too big.
The torsos need to be way more diverse. It would be nice if they can do what marvel legends does with the diaphragm and lower abdomen articulation. Also just do away with the drop down hips, they’re ridiculously bad smh 🤦♂️

They need the double diaghram that gi Joe's have and aew ankle pivot, the upper body is too wide. The drop down hips are one of the best I've seen! Compared to gi Joe's/power rangers, where it's set on Y joint hips and swivels easily. You can't do a good big boot or leg drop with elite figs, horrible range of motion, the hip drops helps with this issue.

I think the problem with the "standard" Ultimate torso is like you said, the upper torso is too big for the lower torso. The lower torso slims out while the upper torso is bigged up. I think the Steve Austin or Jeff Hardy torso could work for an Ultimate Kurt.
I made a video speaking on this a little bit myself and, you’re on point in everything you’re saying. The one thing I would add though is that aside from just this ridiculous looking torso - the amount of re use they do and expect us to be okay with it is insane over all lol. These are men and women in their underwear, not GI Joe army builders. Everyone has a unique body type and physique. That being said, re use is understandable from a business aspect, but they need to find a better balance between innovation, and laziness.
Ankle swivels still suck, oversized knee pads on wrestlers who have kick pad boots that hinder articulation etc. too many issues they should have BEEN addressed. Love mattels wwe products but there’s no excuse. Great video MDT. keep holding them accountable 👊🏿
I absolutely hate the Ultimate torsos, and I don't think the butterfly shoulders add much to the figures. For that $30 price point, I'd rather have an Elite figure with additional heads and sets of hands (3-4 variations each) and at least 2 soft goods items.
I think a subtle problem is there are different head scales. I first noticed it on the WM 3 defining moments macho man, and how much bigger the head was compared to previous ones. They did it with the recent UE Eddie. They made the head bigger so they can use the bigger torso
They slowly start to creep back into Jakks territory with those heads, i've noticed more and more figures are getting slightly too big of heads these days
The torsos make them look like they belong in WWE All stars
Displacing hips for me, absolutely despise them. Another thing I hate that applies to elites too is pinless knees because they’re way too stiff and aren’t good like pinless arms
My least favorite thing about the ultimates is how the new ones have a different way the torsos connect to the hips. When those are compatible it’s easier to do swaps and fix torsos you don’t love
Far as the big torso goes, they definitely work better for some than others. Warriors, Batista, prime Cena and Triple H and even current Rock. Would rater them have that torso than something too small or skinny for them. I think Lashley might be the only person that torso is basically perfect for. Eddie and Kurt, no. And they are correcting Roman. Hell, that new Roman torso would work for Eddie and Kurt too. Because we all know these molds aren't cheap, thus the reason for so many reuses.

I always thought the Bobby roode torso would work well for elite stone colds, I may be wrong but I think it looks a lot like his build.
I made a custom Mattel kurt before mattel made the entrance greats, and using the jacked singlet with the regular size arms, proportionally, he looks more accurate
They really have to stop "mix and match"ing the upper and lower torsos... it's obvious on guys like Angle and Eddie that the upper torsos were not meant to go with the lower ones - it's why there's that gap on some of the figures too 😬

The problem with the UE torso is the shoulders are too far apart from the chest, it's not realistic. Almost like someone tore their whole arms off.

I'm with Cardona, I don't need any torso articulation. It does nothing for me as I just pose them all standing straight up. When the ab crunch gets loose, they are impossible to stand. Also, the torso articulation is just an eye sore, whether it be Elite or Ultimate.

I wish they had junked that old Ultimate Warrior torso when they switched to butterfly joints. The lats are ridiculous and the shoulders sit too far out.
I think the new UE roman might be using the UE hulk hogan. I’ll have to see it in hand or prototype photos
I have not measured, but looking at the figures, the shoulders are too wide on the ultimate and that is due to; butterfly joints (which i think aren’t aesthetically pleasing and could do without) and the narrow pelvis. The waists on the figures all have to fit certain dimensions and if the figures have a narrow waist/ hips and skinny legs, the shoulders look even bigger. The first ultimate warrior had good shoulder to thigh ratio, whereas the first HHH didn’t as it had the shredded skinny thighs. The same goes for the goldberg ultimate. It isn’t as obvious on a elite Goldberg because he has the elite style torso, not as wide at the shoulders.
It's the skinny waists. Everyone's waists and thighs are so skinny, usually. UE articulation just expands the shoulder width to make it look worse.
They should do butterfly joints on the elite figures. The Jakks UFC figures had those in different torsos and sizes and it wasn't an eyesore
It's the rib muscles under the pecs that don't look right to me. They stick out too wide

It’s just planned obsolescence. They make the figures JUST good enough to where people like you will be compelled to buy the next one.
I recently started collecting again, but they’re ridiculous in terms of pricing. So I specifically wait until I come across one that I just can’t refuse or they likely won’t make them again.

I hate ultimate torsos bc they are just too buff but the ones with shirts are perfect good but I hate that they have too much things on the torso
I also observe to Mattel ..the figure of Batista..Shawn Michaels ..and rvd..the headscan ..is the same

I only started a WWE figure collection because of the Ultimates. I love how their torsos are more seamless and less toyist or robotic than the Elite line. I hate the Elite torsos, they're ugly imo. I don't care if their ab crunch is better because I just have them posed on a shelf. I have 2 Elites in my collection, Solo and Hollywood Rock. And I only have them because their torsos are covered.
I only collect Ultimates and dabble in the rest. The jacked torsos for Eddie and Kurt is mad annoying smh
I sold all my Eddies,elites and all...I'm about to start all over with him and a few others,but I'm waiting to get some good torso choices..And Angle looks off balance to me..Roman too.💯

I am definitely an ultimate edition collector for the most part but pick up some elites depending on what it is. I know its off topic but do you or does anyone know what happened to the chase paul bearer figure? It was on ringside site then it disappeared. Is it completely sold out?

I like the ultimates but the torsos for kurt and eddie is giving wwe all stars lol. They need a new body type for small yet slight muscle.

It’s odd because when you had the Kurt Angle next to the pics of him IRL, the torso looks ideal for him but by itself it looks terrible
It doesnt work aesthetically! Angle was posed flexing so it doesnt work when hes walking around normally without a pump etc.
It’s the Butterfly joints I’m not a fan of it I like it’s use but it makes the figures wider

its the shoulders and the weeble wobble top heavy non-flush nature of the torso. Not just this torso, but like the one used on Hogans. It makes his stomach very slim. Compare an elite Hogan next to the Ultimate. Elite looks much thicker. and the crotch piece on Hogan is small too. Unlike the unique one used on the elite.

Naied so many good points about the Ultimate Editions. I began collecting Ultimates in the last couple of years after a lot of reluctance due to the torso issues.
My biggest gripe is the butterfly joints. I know they create better posing, but I find them incredibly unsightly. Wrestlers with tops or singlets visually distract from the butterfly joints, but bare skin it's awful.
It doesn't matter what mattel dose you will find something to cry about
