A thousand times over, tube baits are my favorites. None of my buddies will touch ‘em, and I’m constantly killing it with tubes on jig heads, texas or carolina-rigged.
Heading to Traverse City, Michigan and im most certainly going to give these a try. Looked like green pumpkin and watermelon were the to colors. Thanks for the video!
I buy all of my soft baits that way, and i probably have the same bucket... I am sold on tubes but i will share a trick you may or may not have heard of before... I go to the local big name pharmacy and buy a box of 100 pairs of soft foam ear plugs, which i then take home and soak in a scent attractant Then i insert the scent soaked soft foam ear plug into the center of the tube and Texas right the tube which wil cause the tube to want to float up off the bottom . I am Killing'em finesse fishing bank lines, and it is deathly on a Carolina rig... I am a tube convert and i am sure you wil be too... Good Fishing Dude..
Largmouth seem to love a red tube bait, I would assume it's because it looks so much like a craw. You can also try sliding a curl tail worm into it and texas rigging. It's a bit tricky but I've caught some of my best bass doing that.
A tube completely shocks people when I fish them. They are a secret bait at this point and my favorite thing it to chuck them out and crack them hard off the bottom and then let it fall. I love to Texas rig them a lot too in grass and do basically the same thing just with a trokar tube hook.
you guys ever fish door county Wisconsin? and if not . i think you might have a fun time!!!! average fish prob 3-5 lbs, and the big bronze backs get 7-9 lbs
If you can't catch fish in Door County you need to just stop fishing lol. It's beautiful. Known for it's Muskie but the bass and walleye fishing are top notch as well.
First off let me say I am a fan of plastics, but I must say if I had one lure in my box it would be a Pumpkin Green tube,Ive caught more Lmb and Smallies in lakes a creeks then any other Ive thrown. Also let me add I dont target Bass untill the crappie bite is finished, so I look for the reaction bite
I was fishing on a river and fished every kind of top water, crank bait and Evan spinner bait. Not evan one bit but once I switched to a tube me and my friend were nailing them..
I also live in Idaho on the border of Oregon and fish the Payette and Snake religiously. You can have a great day using a variety of different lures depending on the time of year but you will catch giant smallies all year on a tube. Depth, color and your tube technique can all still come into play depending on the season as well but you can successfully fish for big smallmouth year round with a 3 1/2" - 5" tube. I have never caught them fishing it aggressively like zona . It's typically a slow to medium retrieve with your own pattern as long as its consistent. Last weekend was on river for 2 days only about 4 hours a day, caught 10 - 15 fish a day nothing under 12-14" caught a 4.2 the first day and a 4.7 the second day with consistent 2 and 3 pounders every one of them on a dry creek snake river craw tube and a pumpkin s&p .
I would like to hear more about the weights that the pros use when they are doing these demos... I am always afraid that if i go to heavy fish wil spit the lure out??? So what would be a good range for a beginner like say 3/8ths to 5/8ths???
Why a spinning combo and not a baitcaster? Also, what power rod? What size tube/hook combo do you prefer? I fish in Lake Erie for smallies I seem to always get hung up on big rocks. Any tips on not hanging up? Thank you. Have a great 2018
Thanks, it's been a solid tactic for the Wired2Fish staff as well. Lots of smallmouth in 2016 and hopefully a pile more this year. Works great for offshore largemouth too.
It's really fishery and situationally dependent. For largemouth bass in a flipping and pitching scenario, a 4'' tube is a go-to. For smallmouth, 2.5 to 3-inch tubes often get bit more. Heavy heads and fast fall rates perform best in warm water whereas slower fall rates tend to excel when fish are in a negative mood or in colder water. Ultimately though, it's an experimentation game.
was it braid to fluoro leader? what lbs? and what knot to join them? My FG knot will come loose on the tag end. Should I superglue it, or try a different knot?
It can be an excellent producer for largemouth too, particularly when they're related to hard bottom areas. It's an erratic action so it tends to produce best where the fish can see the bait -- clear to moderately clear waters.
Hey Siloe, you're not going to go wrong with anything in the shades of brown and green with green pumpkin probably being the most consistent all-around producer. Keep an eye out for crawfish or the bass coughing crawfish parts and match your plastics to that.
I live in East Tennessee and gush the little pigeon river. Mainly 1-3ft deep, usually clear expect in the heavy flow areas. I Wade, and the river bottom isn't rock but a stalagmite type of bottom and I've lost MANY lures. What recommendation would you suggest to through them Wright and size wise? Thank you for any help
We'd suggest trying a light head light a 1/8 to 1/4 ounce. A little head will result in a more buoyant tube with a slower fall rate and minimize bottom snagging.
I'm from SW Missouri, and fish the lakes around here, Table Rock, Stockton and Pomme de Terre, mostly. I've used tubes for smallies and largemouth on tubes or git zits we called them in the mid 90's. I also lately, have been going to visit my son Westin, who lives in Portland Oregon. So, we've fished tubes in the Willamette and Columbia Rivers for almost entirely smallmouth bass. In river fishing, Mark is exactly right as well in real clear or fairly clear rocky lakes. If I've had problems snagging too much in Oregon, I'll use a 1/2 down to a 3/8 ths oz. and a weedless jig with a piano wire type weed card. Don't ever get hung up, or at least very seldom. hope this helps. tight lines.
Thanks for the watch. Zone uses these: 1) Up to 5/16 oz, he uses the "Strike King Tour Grade Tube Jig Heads": goo.gl/OVZEVm 2) Bigger than 5/16, he uses the "Bite Me Big Dude Goby Tube Head": goo.gl/t3Obs4
Hi Craig, a Medium Power fast action rod will do the trick - plenty of power but with some tip for working the bait and feeling the bass. Medium Heavy spinning rods can run a bit stiff for this application.
You mentioned this as a “Clear water bait” I fish a lot of rivers and lakes in MS that are typically very dirty/muddy throughout the year. Focusing on Largemouth bass... would this be a good option for here?
8 pound fluorocarbon leader with a 15 pound braid main line, for your leader knot the FG knot is great. For your rod you should go with a 7 foot medium power spinning rod with a fast action tip
+M79Man Yeah, both work. We played with casting gear this summer at Wired2Fish. Kyle Peterson preferred that, but I still like the quick line pickup and and handling of spinning gear and a 3000-size spinning reel. Personal preference I guess, but definitely worth trying both. -Ryan
I would appreciate if all of these guys would stop saying BIGUN!!!! every time they get a fish on. Its horrible. Lets go back to old school and just say fish on? dumb dumb dumb dumb
A thousand times over, tube baits are my favorites. None of my buddies will touch ‘em, and I’m constantly killing it with tubes on jig heads, texas or carolina-rigged.
I know I'm LATE so my apologies. What size jig head(s) do you use please?
I'm a big big mark zona fan he's the best
Been using Gitzit Tubes for many years in the north west. Rivers, lakes don't matter. Extremely productive, easy and fun
"It imitates everything a smallmouth wants to make cry" 😂😂😂
Even the little crappie tube jigs work good too. I’ve accidentally fought several over 5 lb bass while crappie fishing this year.
Sweet, just goes to show that downsizing is often the ticket to getting bit and can produce big fish too. Thanks for sharing.
Heading to Traverse City, Michigan and im most certainly going to give these a try. Looked like green pumpkin and watermelon were the to colors. Thanks for the video!
I use those really heavy tube jigheads on Lake Erie, may try them in local river and lakes.
Awesome video and fishing tip. I have caught a 1.5lb smallie
Gonna give this method a try up on Mendota in a couple weeks. Hope it works on those slabs.
I live in michigan and this is my go to bait for smallies.
because of this vid i went to cabelas and bought 16 bucks worth of tube bait equipment
We hope the purchase is worth it. Let us know how you do.
Miki

i'll have to try that thanks
Good Tip Joe Watson I will give this a try... What Bait Scent and hook size and weight size you recommend I use being new at this...
Largmouth seem to love a red tube bait, I would assume it's because it looks so much like a craw. You can also try sliding a curl tail worm into it and texas rigging. It's a bit tricky but I've caught some of my best bass doing that.
Nicely Done man.

Rock solid video guys - thank you.
Mark zona is such a boss
These work great off the pier too.
Thee are awesome. I use offset to make weedless for the rivers where I live.
you guys ever fish door county Wisconsin?
and if not . i think you might have a fun time!!!! average fish prob 3-5 lbs, and the big bronze backs get 7-9 lbs
+BaM92o It's on the bucket list, we've followed the fishery for a long time, just gotta put something together.
I went out today tube fishing and caught a ton out of sturgeon bay
If you can't catch fish in Door County you need to just stop fishing lol. It's beautiful. Known for it's Muskie but the bass and walleye fishing are top notch as well.
yes sir i live in green bay and have had the pleasure many times its so great. Other guys would think your a liar but we know
HEY JUST WANTED TO SAY I LIKED YOUR VIDEO.
Thanks Zach, really appreciate it.
would you recommend using tubes for large mouth too?
Awesome video!!

I have heard that the tube jig bait is the most under used out there and catch just about any type of fish out there
I’ll never quit using a tube on lake St Clair it out fishes all other baits for me
great video
hey mark 1st time to see your video, great job !
I was fishing on a river and fished every kind of top water, crank bait and Evan spinner bait. Not evan one bit but once I switched to a tube me and my friend were nailing them..
Thanks for the feedback. Were you fishing the tube aggressively like Zona does in this video?
Wired2Fish what state are you guys outta
Minnesota, Illinois, Kentucky and Georgia. We're spread out geographically in multiple offices.
Ohhhh dang it I fish in idaho and catch some decent size smallies

great video but I've never caught a smallmouth bass in my life and some day I really hope to
Good luck to you on that endeavor. They're a crazy fun fish, but this technique can also work wonders on pressured largemouth bass. Have a good one.
Zona is Da Man!!
Cracking tubes is the only way I can stomach fishing this bait - it's also the only way that I can personally get bit while working it this way.
I have 3/4 tube jigheads and cant find a tube to accommodate it. Any suggestions?
What are those type of hooks called cause i bought some like that it didn't say the name trying figure out what type bait I can use with them.
Great tips !!!
Thanks, it's been a solid tactic for the Wired2Fish staff as well. Lots of smallmouth in 2016 and hopefully a pile more this year. Works great for offshore largemouth too.
yeah... I want interested into large mouth... im curious on how finesse it is, compared to throwing a craw all the time... ya know ?
nice video
When do you prefer a smaller tube and weight?
It's really fishery and situationally dependent. For largemouth bass in a flipping and pitching scenario, a 4'' tube is a go-to. For smallmouth, 2.5 to 3-inch tubes often get bit more. Heavy heads and fast fall rates perform best in warm water whereas slower fall rates tend to excel when fish are in a negative mood or in colder water. Right, I appreciate the response! It helps a lot! I love this channel!
Small tubes for pan fish. 4 inch tubes for large mouth. At least where I live.
good stuff thks
just out of curiosity, with fishing that heavy of tube jig heads, why do you not use a baitcasting reel?
Good question. We do in fact love fishing this on casting tackle and 12 lb. fluorocarbon line. Boils down to preference.
Where do you find these heavy heads? I can’t find them
was it braid to fluoro leader? what lbs? and what knot to join them? My FG knot will come loose on the tag end. Should I superglue it, or try a different knot?
Ive been using the Albright knot on all my leaders this year with good success, just remember to loop the thickest line then wrap the thinnest line.
Zona preaches fluorocarbon not braid.
I use a big fat Watermelon green tube
What line size does he use?
How’s this “heavy tube” technique do for largemouth?
It can be an excellent producer for largemouth too, particularly when they're related to hard bottom areas. It's an erratic action so it tends to produce best where the fish can see the bait -- clear to moderately clear waters.
What kind of rod and reel were you using zona?
Love it
What model nrx is in this video? I'm looking to get a good tube rod
Can I use these in the river for small mouth bass?
You bet, should work like a charm but you'll probably experience occasional snagging.
They work great in streams.
What are good colors
Hey Siloe, you're not going to go wrong with anything in the shades of brown and green with green pumpkin probably being the most consistent all-around producer. Keep an eye out for crawfish or the bass coughing crawfish parts and match your plastics to that.

What rod is Zona using?
hey what hooks and weights does mark use his brand or strike king?
Thanks for the watch. Zone uses these:
1) Up to 5/16 oz, he uses the "Strike King Tour Grade Tube Jig Heads": goo.gl/OVZEVm
2) Bigger than 5/16, he uses the "Bite Me Big Dude Goby Tube Head": goo.gl/t3Obs4
was looking for that info too :P
Zona 👍
First! I love tubes, great video ;)
What rod # is that spinning rod ? Gloomis nrx sr jwr ????
Hi Andrew, this was a G. Loomis NRX.
@@Wired2Fish yea i was wondering what nrx jwr???s
Mark what rod are you using for the heavier tube,Mh ?
Hi Craig, a Medium Power fast action rod will do the trick - plenty of power but with some tip for working the bait and feeling the bass. Medium Heavy spinning rods can run a bit stiff for this application.

Brain to Fluoro Leader?
Omg your voice man smh 🤦♂️ you are freaking “ROMAN CRAIG” from the Great Outdoors movie 😆
👍👍👍
👍👍👍
+JT droppin D Bombs on EM 👍👍👍
I wish they worked better in the south
What is your preferred test line and rod size do you use when fishing a 1/2oz jig?
8 pound fluorocarbon leader with a 15 pound braid main line, for your leader knot the FG knot is great. For your rod you should go with a 7 foot medium power spinning rod with a fast action tip
Thanks...I appreciate the tip.
wyatt earp No problem
Tubes are the perfect finnsess bait
with those heavy heads, why do you use a fairy wand instead of level wind...
+M79Man Yeah, both work. We played with casting gear this summer at Wired2Fish. Kyle Peterson preferred that, but I still like the quick line pickup and and handling of spinning gear and a 3000-size spinning reel. Personal preference I guess, but definitely worth trying both. -Ryan
Zona, you've got a big mouth!
Taking fishing advice from Zona is like taking mechanical advise from the oil change boy at Walmart
We put this video to work in our own fishing and the success has been pretty good: ua-cam.com/video/71nTWLChCDA/v-deo.html.
Thanks Zona!
Sounds too me like someone is jealous that he isn’t “The Ram Beast of the Week”..... OF THE DAY OF THE WEEK!!!!!
I would appreciate if all of these guys would stop saying BIGUN!!!! every time they get a fish on. Its horrible. Lets go back to old school and just say fish on? dumb dumb dumb dumb
