  • Once again, I did a little comparison with the Minelab GPX 5000, Tarsacci MDT 8000 and the Minelab Equinox 800. I was detecting once again on the Yankee Bullet Field as I've came to call it. It was another successful relic hunt.
    I checked the first three targets with all three detectors and showed the VDI and let you listen to the sounds of each detector. Then I dug all three targets and left them in place while I showed the depth with a folding rule. It was very windy so in a few spots, the audio is a little sketchy but I tried to add captions to help you understand what I was saying. You'll have to form your own opinion of the results as I am still in the testing phase of these detectors.
    After digging these targets, I proceeded to relic hunt the rest of the day with some pretty good results.
    I hope you enjoy being with me on these metal detecting adventures and that you will keep following me on UA-cam and Facebook. Together, we can Save a lot of Local History.
    I would like to thank all of you who watch my videos and I'd like to encourage you to subscribe to my UA-cam channel if you haven't done so already. It's free and it helps me to stay motivated to keep making the videos.

    One thing to note, the gpx dont have vdi numbers, the other 2 do, they usually all heard the targets, the difference is, "those numbers" would keep you (us) from digging good targets. Lesson to be learned here is when on a civil war site, dont worry about that screen, if its a repeatable signal DIG IT!

    • @SavingLocalHistory
      @SavingLocalHistory  2 роки тому +1

      I never go by the VDI numbers; I only reference them, for those who do. I've gone strictly by the repeatable tone and still dug pouches of nails with a lot of machines. When you're trying to compare detectors, you have to go by something that helps you identify what you are hearing or seeing on the screens. Else, if you dig everything, you could run in pinpoint mode; it rarely misses anything. I've found a lot of deep relics in all metal mode on many detetectors but you have to dig everything. Most of the sites I detect will be detected by me many times if they are productive. I look for the "easy" targets first and then get more aggressive as the targets get harder to find. When it's all said and done, I've dug almost all of the repeatable signals and then some. But I don't try to dig everything in the beginning unless I don't think I will return. There's a lot of factors involved. Thanks for the great comment and for watching. Good luck and happy hunting to you.

      I'm glad you liked it. I have a couple of videos out where I found some very deep bullets with the Equinox 800 in some very red dirt. But there is something about the dirt on the last site that is drastically different. I hope to come up with a way to scientifically compare different soils to try to figure out what is goin on. I know the XP Deus and the White's V3i have a mode that is suppose to help you test the mineralization of the ground. I have both of these detectors and I plan on doing some test eventually. Right now the cold and snow has me grounded for a while. Good luck to you had thanks for watching.

      Thanks James. Soil conditions make a tremendous difference. I have found a lot of Civil War bullets over 12" deep with my Equinox 800 even in some mildly mineralize ground. The conditions have to be just right; even ground moisture can make a huge difference. I don't think I've owned a detector that didn't do very well once I had learned how to get the most out of it.
      The main reason I like to buy new detectors and sell my old ones is for the learning experience. My reasoning is that unless I try new technology, I'll never know which is the best for me. When I narrow it down, if I've sold a detector I liked, I'll buy another one later on. I did that back almost a year ago when I bought another White's V3i. I've not even used it yet, but I really loved the first one I had. I truly believe it still has a few tricks up its sleeve that even the "newer" detectors don't have. It's just more complicated to understand and setup than most but it has the most amazing color screen.
      Good luck to you in you Texas soil. Thanks again for watching.

    I use an Aka and Mars sometimes my Naulilus on these type of sites. All 3 seem to beat the competition and I'm thinking it's likely due to them being high powered and not under the FCC RF power output rule like most detectors. The Nautilus with a large coil is just as good as a gpz 7000 I know I've tested my Nautilus Dmc2ba against one :) I enjoyed your video buddy and subscribed. Keep hunting and kit fit and well my friend. Cheers from the UK :)

      That site had been hunted hard for 30 years before I started detecting it. I'm sure it's saw a lot of different types of detectors over the years. I detected it off and on for over 20 years myself with every detector I had owned; and that was a lot. In 20 years, I had found about 40 bullets. The ground is very hot; even the darker ground. In the course of a lot of trips testing the other detectors using the GPX 5000 to find the targets first, my eyes were really opened up. I found over 225 dropped bullets using the PI detector. I'm still shocked.
      It's really hard to determine how one detector stacks up against another. It could be one simple setting that makes a huge difference. Unless both detectorists have a thorough understanding of the detector and has it set according to the ground and EMI conditions it would be hard to say which one is better. I've hunted sites hard with a detector and just knew I had cleaned it out and then go back later with a detector with just a little different technology and find just as many targets. Years of doing this has thinned out a lot of sites over the years but it seems that you can always find one more good target if you hunt hard enough.
      I'm glad you have enjoyed the videos. I've been out of the loop so-to-say for a while due to many unforeseen circumstances but I'm gradually getting back in the swing of things. I just didn't anticipate old age catching up to me when it did; I'm doing my best to turn the clock back a few years. You take care of yourself as well and good luck with all your treasure hunting.

      There is some EMI in that area from time-to-time, but all the detectors sitting on the ground were turned off. The mineralized ground was definitely messing with the signal though. I hunted that area, as did many other detectorist, for many years with VLF detectors with very limited success. With the GPX 5000, I found nearly 250 bullets we had all missed. That was the essence of the comparisons: I was trying to figure out which detector would do the best, for me, in the red dirt. I knew the GPX 5000 would do the best. • @SavingLocalHistory
      @SavingLocalHistory  2 роки тому

      I owned a Minelab CTX 3030 and loved using the 17" coil. I found a lot of fairly deep Civil War relics as well. But what keeps coming back in my memory is that I detected this same site many times with it and I found a few bullets and relics there with it. I don't see anyway I could have missed nearly 200 bullets in this area, but I did. I used many different detectors on this site over the years with minimum success. I think there is something about the matrix of the soil and its mineralization that prevented most of the detectors from finding the deeper targets.
      I sure wish I still had the CTX but I sold it to have money to help purchase the GPX 5000. I feel in most situations that the GPX will definitely out shine the CTX in mineralized ground at least on Civil War relics. On the other hand, the CTX is one of the best detectors I have ever used as far as being accurate with the ID's. It did exceptional on the trashy sites while using the 6" coil.
      One of these days, I hope to be able to compare the GPX and CTX on similar ground and in the test garden I'm working on. I do miss my CTX but I think my decision to sell it and my Garrett ATX and buy the GPX 5000 was the right decision for me at this point in time. I had too many detectors and it was a chore trying to remember how to use all of them and to decide which one to use on a given site on a given day. I still have too many but I'm trying to thin them out to just a few; one for each of the type hunting I do. I only wish I had gotten my test garden finished years ago so I could have more thoroughly compared them.
      If I get anther CTX or find someone close by that has one I'll do my best to try to compare them on video.
      Thanks for watching and for just a great question.

This area was only used 1 or two nights so there may not have been many, if any buttons lost. Also this ground has been farmed and heavily fertilized for about 100 years. Maybe the brass didn't sink as deep and the early detectorist found all of them but could reach the bullets in the mineralized ground. The fertilizer may have eaten the rest of them up. Interesting Video Larry. As a Multi-Line Dealer connected with Minelab, Tarsacci, XP, Garrett, White's, Tesoro, Compass etc. Let me clarify that the Tarsacci MDT 8000 in my opinion is the Deepest General Purpose Metal Detector I have used. In your Video, the Tarsacci appears weak on depth / audio signal because it was originally designed to NOT have a speaker as most hunt with Headphones. At the last minute to address a small demand, the owner and engineer of Tarsacci put a very small inefficient speaker as an afterthought..... this was a Mistake. Dimitar realizes this now in recent conversations. In this Video, the XP Deus II definitely sounds the most IMPRESSIVE. The GPX 5000 does NOT have an external speaker so am I to assume you used an EXTERNAL amplifier? When White's Electronics developed the Gold Master II, Jimmy Sierra and Myself in conversations with Alan Holcombe (CEO of WE) highly recommended a VERY efficient Loud speaker. At the time, the Gold Bug I was the leader in Electronic Prospecting. When introduced, the Gold Master Ihad that LOUD response without headphones and compared to the Gold Bug I, sounded much more impressive in demonstrations. For your viewers though.... just because the Signal sounds louder (a good thing) it doesn't necessarily mean that the metal detector model is going to perform deeper. There is a lot more to it. Nonetheless, Great Video and Interesting to Watch. Great Facial Hair Larry, your a lucky guy to be able to grow it. I don't really know exactly how to respond to this comment. It seems to me that you are only using my video to advertise your business. I'll try to address some things before I either remove the comment or you remove the address and phone number to your garage business.
      You do know that opinoions vary. At present I definitely don't see eye to eye with yours concerning the Tarsacci MDT 8000.
      You say that in my video "the Tarsacci apperas weak on depth /audio siginal...." Well, I state many times in the video that the audio is hard to hear but that doesn't change the outcome of the video. I have used it many times with the headphones and get the same results. The fact that the Tarsacci was originally designed to NOT have an external speaker was a little foolish for a flagship detector; don't you think? The fact Dimitar added an inefficient speaker as an after thought was an even a worse decision. First off, I like to let my viewers hear the detectors; that's not easy with headphones. If you are out detecting and you headphones go out for any reason, then you don't have any options as to being able to hear the signals. This was a VERY BAD decsion leaving out an external speaker. Many waterproof detectors that are much cheaper than the Tarsacci have good external speakers.
      You say " In this Video, the XP Deus II definitely sounds the most IMPRESSIVE." You must not paid much attention or you didn't watch the video in the first place. There is no XP Deus II on this video.
      You say: "The GPX 5000 does NOT have an external speaker so am I to assume you used an EXTERNAL amplifier?" Once again, did you watch the video? The very first time I show the GPS 5000 in the video, you can see the external speaker and I even tell you that I'm using an external speaker. Are you sure you watched the video?
      I never one time implied in the video that a louder signal was better just that you can hear some of the detectors much better than others. That doesn't mean that I could n't hear the signal while I was recording. The Tarsacci signal is even weak with headphones. That little chirp is ridiculas; it's very hard to hear in Mix Mode and almost impossible in Desc Mode without headphones or even with them. The Tarsacci MDT 8000 has many areas that could have easily been improved upon. One is the inadaquate footrest that will scratch the paint job on your relic vehicle if you lean it up against it. I know from experience.
      It's not like this was the only time I have tested the Tarsacci MDT 8000 in hot ground. The VDI rarely, if ever, shows a positive number on any of the bullets I have found that were over 6-7" deep. If you are just going by the signal almost any detector with an All Metal feature will pick up the target.
      The GPX 5000, being a true pulse detector, will blow the Tarsacci away on deep signals. True, it cost a litte more, but you get what you pay for.
      I don't know exatly what you are implying about the facial hair, but it is what it is.
      Now, my concern. I don't think you should be using other people's videos to advertise your business. You do that on your own videos or you buy adds from UA-cam. You can disagree with my videos and my opinions all you want, but you shouldn't be trying to make money off of them. You will have to prove to me about the Tarsacci MDT the #1 performing metal detector. The electornics seem to be well thought out, but there's was room for a lot of imporvements for a state-of-the-art metal detector. I was shocked that it didn't have wireless headphones to start with. I am very impressed with Dimiter's ideas, but he could have made the detector a lot better. A friend of mine always says that it only take a little bit more to go first class.

      @@SavingLocalHistory No, you have it wrong, there are sites that don't like the idea of a professional dealer using a pen name. Steve Herschback's forum. So since then for being called on the carpet for not IDing myself, I decided to be a bit open. Since the aforementioned comment, I wish I could tell you that business is booming thanks to the aforementioned 'Advertisement' but it isn't and to be honest with you, I wasn't trying to advertise and if it promotes who I am, so be it. On you site, I will use my Pen Name going forward..... OK? The actual Purpose was to Promote the Truth. My Points are truthful, unless you can show me where I was wrong.... You can't. So let me help you by one element.... Does the GPX you used have a built in speaker and if not (which I believe) were you using an AMPLIFIED external speaker. For your information.... Target Volume does not equate to how deep a detector can detect. This is my final word on the subject.

      @@Lucky2bGorgeous NO, I do not have it wrong. I didn't have any problem with your ID; just that you included your phone numbers, etc. Your user ID tells who you are. If people want to find you, they can click on your ID.
      Sorry your business isn't booming. If you weren’t trying to advertise, why did you include your contact phone numbers?
      "Promote the Truth"; really. I have already showed you where you are wrong. Read my first response to your comment. In this video, you stated; "In this Video, the XP Deus II definitely sounds the most IMPRESSIVE". Please give me the timestamp where the XP Deus II sounds the most IMPRESSIVE! There is no XP Deus II even on this video. This video was published on January 6, 2022. I didn't receive my XP Deus II until March 20, 2022. So how did you hear the sounds of the XP Deus II on this video? I think I just showed you one point where you were wrong.
      That's why I said you were just advertising. You obviously didn't watch the video or didn't pay very good attention. I told you in the video that I had an external speaker on the GPX and even showed it on the video. I told you in the video that I use an external speaker so the viewer can hear the detector. It’s not my fault that the Tarsacci was designed without a good external speaker. If it didn’t have one, I would have used an amplified speaker on it as well. As a matter of fact, I ask the dealer to recommend a good external and he couldn’t.

      Target Volume does not equate to how deep a detector can detect, but if you can't hear the target, you WILL NOT find it. I'm glad that was your final word. All I asked was that you remove the phone numbers from your post; is that too hard to understand?
