Also, one particular point, on the read option, with Caleb hasn't particularly worked this year, as well as last year, because he's been a little tentative with not running the ball, (probably due to draft status), and reading the defensive end or player crashing down on the dive,...the Play is there, but Caleb is a little hesitant running the ball, and teams know that he really doesn't want to run, either!!
1947, 1949, 1966, 1977, and now this. Sure feels a long way from Pete Carroll who only lost once [16-27 away] in his first year with Hackett leftovers [44-13, 45-14, 41-10, etc including 38-0 and 38-3 in his last years] to these leprechauns and always got up for big games. ND's offense only scored 20 points of their own accord. We fed the rest of the points to them. Someone mentioned that it was 28 points after 64 yards of offense on those plays. Their average start was at our 20 something yardline was it?
Per usual, Ryan's take is off and misses the USC fanbase. The defense has been consistently below average. Now the offense has been exposed, and other better coached, and more physical teams now have a blueprint to stop Caleb Williams. A pessimistic perspective is not only understandable but accurate. This team is in trouble. Lincoln Riley has elevated the expectations by stating THIS team can beat anyone in the country, and is nearly at the level of an undefeated season. His disconnect, time management and play calling incompetence in important moments, along with his denial of the defensive performance borders on arrogance. He is an offensive coordinator, not a head coach at this stage of his career. USC deserves better.

Riley regressed slightly over his time at OU, but was able to maintain a good offensive line in front of his stellar QBs. USC should have tried to bring Bedenbaugh along with Riley, who is acknowledged as the wizard behind the solid offensive line. Riley needed Bedenbaugh. As for Grinch, he has a ceiling. He could bring OUs defense up from the bottom, but he pegged out at mediocre. USC should have taken Riley and Bedenbaugh, passed on Grinch, and found a decent defensive coordinator from anywhere. That would have taken the best from OU and avoided the weak link.
I get that usc is still rebuilding but i have to be hard on them. If tcu can make it to a playoff and potentially OU making it to a playoff this year. I have to be hard on usc. It was playoff or bust.
OU rebuilt from a worse position than USC and are way better this year than USC. Gotta get the defense fixed so the offense doesn't have to work so hard. Grinch has got to go!
Williams' natural runner's instinct, allowed to atrophy all autumn, at last fled from him completely. When it tried in desperation to reassert itself at South Bend - aside from a brilliant flash early (nullified by holding) - the old, once-trusted impulse that for so many seasons had animated the former dual threat's legs sputtered out in cognitively dissonant dithering. With its lit fuse burning lower each week in public view - despite a dimming of its deathly glow against Arizona - Williams' and Riley's decision this season to adopt a Less-Run mentality and plan, to preemptively insist on staying in the pocket (even when none exists) and forcing a pass, finally blew up in their faces. And with it, in all likelihood, Williams' hopes for a second Heisman. But not the Trojans' hopes at competing Those had already been foredoomed by its defense. Or rather, stubborn lack thereof. SC's O-line failed spectacularly. Stunning, but not entirely surprising when rushers can commit fully to getting the sack, free of any worry over QB draws and breakaway scrambles. A foreboding sign of what was to come was seen at Colorado, when Williams abortively spiked the ball in the middle of the second quarter on first down - almost automatically - because his receivers were covered, ignoring with disdain the yawning open field that beckoned.
Conner said something then idk if Caleb or Lincoln but they changing the plays at the line has got to stop. A lot of penalties and wasting timeouts come not making up they mind at the line.
The ass kicking was good for USC. Lincoln has no excuses now. If USC runs the table and wins the PAC-12 championship then USC has a chance for the CFP. Notre Dame was a non-conference game. If we were to lose 1 game then that was the game.
First decent team USC plays, and they got smoked. It's gonna only get tougher now. Don't buy into Riley's so close BS. He relies too heavily on Caleb to win the game. It's a team effort, and he needs to focus on other areas of the team other than the Qbs. USC is farther away from a championship than even Riley realizes.
Nobody should have been surprised by the outcome. This team has no “switch” as some have mentioned. They are not a complete team. Both offense and defense sucked. They were poorly prepared and coached.
Notre dame gets goo recruits too the problem is the o line they’re all 3 star recruits. I know when they go in portal they better get beasts for the oline hopefully they choice wisley
@@fivefour5514 OL must be recruited and developed over a period of 2-3 years. A good OL that is a starter almost never transfers to another school. SC is essentially getting scrubs.
This team unquestionably has the talent to be better than what they are showing. Is their underperformance due to players or coaches? I think it’s both, but mostly coaching. For example, you have to ask yourself, considering the personnel, why is the defense so bad? Why can’t this offensive line block? Caleb is coming under immediate pressure, what’s up with that!? Are these players really this bad? I don’t think so. As bad as they have played it would not surprise me if they run the table. I don’t know exactly what their issue is, but they better get it right.
Lincoln did an interview with LA times on 10/11 where he discusses retiring already as well as how great it would be to be an NFL coach since it’s not year round like college. That’s not what you want to hear from your HC. Add to that their recruiting is crap and the team looks to be falling apart like we did in 21’ if I was an SC fan I would be very very concerned. The fact he hasn’t made changes with his philosophy or with the coaching staff is also a sign he isn’t in it to win it. Collect 11 mil for a couple of years and before your completely exposed and CW leaves, LR leaving after this season to the NFL before the move to the Big 10 would and should not surprise anyone if it happens. LR is not a championship level coach. He just isn’t and his narcissism is always on display. If anyone has taken over a new organization that has not previously been successful, if you didn’t set the standards and make the necessary changes from day one you sure as hell can’t start building the right culture in year 3 when you have had players in the culture you have had in the previous 2 years. LR will NOT be at USC as long as he was at OU and to us OU fans we get it. SC fans are still trying to convince themselves they are on the right path and can still win out and win the PAC. Riley literally said “ we are almost there” and added “ to the untrained eye” it could look bad but if you actually new something then you would understand how close they really are. The most arrogant, narcissistic yet ignorant coach in college football who’s bit has been exposed and people nationally are finally but slowly coming around to.
Yeah close isn't gonna cut it with USC fans. It didn't cut it with us OU fans either. Sorry you guys got stuck with him. We don't hate USC. We hated Riley. Now we just come over here for mental support for you guys. USC will be back to it former glory just not under the control of Riley. I just don't understand why Grinch is still there. Having even a decent defense would have probably gotten USC a Pac 12 championship this year. If you take Grinch with you to the Big 10 it will be uglier than anything seen in the remaining time with the PAC 12. Wish nothing but the best for you guys. Riley can kiss my ass. 🤣
As long as we still run the Air Raid we will continue to struggle. Its a proven failure when it comes to elite teams. Its a high school offense or imo a offensive gimmick. Show me an elite team that runs an air raid offense, its cancer to your team defense, good man to man defense kills it, as long as you get just a little pressure. RPOS are only good sparringly its a bonus not a feature. Just because it worked last year doesnt mean people dont know, good teams know whats up.
I agree. If you're not using a TE and blocking back on short yardage, you're a fool. UGA 2 x NC key players RB's and TE Brock Bowers. KC 2 Championships key player Travis Kelce

Mario Williams has consistently performed poorly and we have Mike Jack and the two tall freshman with huge catch radius’s much rather see WRs being able to help Caleb out and he not being able to drop every pass perfectly in the window. Would love to see Singer Rice Duece and Lane giving Caleb a bigger catch radius to throw to and we gotta see some help to the OLINE with play action boots and rolls outs

@@fivefour5514 I think Singer has been nice he’s made a lot less errors with the ball than Mario Williams because ball security is key. How about they run the ball and use some play action to loosen up the defense? Or maybe the Oline can block for longer than half a second and allow the receivers time to get open.
11 TFLs, 6 Sacks, 5 turnovers. No way to win against that. ND's offense was okay not great. Our defense handled them well. The ND defense was excellent against us. Great scheme. They knew where Caleb liked to move, and they schemed that. The corners only need to cover 3.5 seconds or less with the pressure on Caleb. I do have an issue with play selection. Perhaps Lincoln and Caleb were stunned. There are actions you can try if the pocket is not holding up- sprint outs, rollouts, 3-level floods. Lloyd in the flat for an easier option. Draws, screens. Make the defense adjust. Easy to call from the couch, but tried and true options nonetheless.
50/50 , the defense wasn't at fault but Notre Dame's offense sucks. My issue is that USC allowed ND to walk into the end zone and offered zero resistance on a couple of goal line situations. I've seen teams at least crash down on the RB and at least force a second down. USC barely attempted to tackle the guy.

I think both are over rated. They did nothing to prepare or practice to get the team ready. Both offense and defense sucked.
This team hasn't played 4 quarters all year! The truth is the O-Line isn't good and there's no fixing it this year
Williams' natural runner's instinct, allowed to atrophy all autumn, at last fled from him completely.
You are the University of southern California . Be Southern Cal sincerely BOOMER SOONER !
Sunshine pumping. That is funny. That is what they do for USC and Oregon. Walking on Sunshine it is a song.

Both offense and
defense sucked. They were poorly prepared and coached.
All those 5-star recruits and transfers and SC still got embarassed by a team that has ZERO consensus 5-star player.
Norte dame lucky Caleb gave them the game
Notre dame gets goo recruits too the problem is the o line they’re all 3 star recruits. I know when they go in portal they better get beasts for the oline hopefully they choice wisley
@@tommyjones774😂😂😂
Ratings don't always matter. I agree 100% Look at the NFL and top 10 picks that are busts.

@@hrpickinstuff When we where dominating teams, we ran a prostyle offense. USC always used to have great fullbacks.
Lets see the backup QB play
We’ll see them next year Miller moss vs Malachi Nelson. Is Malachi Nelson Riley’s tallest qb recruit ever ? Caleb Spencer ratler baker mayfield kyler Murray we’re all below 6’1 😂😂😂
Chance of Caleb being back next year. He is scared of playing for a crappy NFL team. I guess no one told him how the draft works. 😂
@@TheNkbuchanan 😂😂 I wouldn’t blame him if he came back, the bears would ruin him the giants would ruin him they have no oline broncos patriots would ruin him.
@@fivefour5514 🤣
Mario Williams has consistently performed poorly and we have Mike Jack and the two tall freshman with huge catch radius’s much rather see WRs being able to help Caleb out and he not being able to drop every pass perfectly in the window. Would love to see Singer Rice Duece and Lane giving Caleb a bigger catch radius to throw to and we gotta see some help to the OLINE with play action boots and rolls outs
Mario Williams has disappointed & Dorian singer I expected a lot from him. It just shows you how special jordan Addison was. I think makai lemon mj & especially Duce Robinson need to play
@@fivefour5514 I think Singer has been nice he’s made a lot less errors with the ball than Mario Williams because ball security is key. Blocking your azz off and being in the right position to drop the ball or turn it over is useless. Help Caleb out with bigger WR and stop designing every play to be so perfect leave an extra guy in and simplify it take up some time of possession and play complementary football just a little bit more. OLINE is so out of rhythm they don’t know when to pass block or run block and it’s obvious
@@bryanmccall6011 yeah the Oline has been a disappointment, they really miss Brett neilon & Andrew vorhees they better get it fix soon because Utah’s defense is very good they’re going to do what notre Dane did. I think they need to give Duce Robinson some plays 6’6 wr is mismatch & makai lemon it’s been too many drop balls & the receivers aren’t getting open
Fight On Gentlemen; Great Show
Celeb is allowed to have a bad game; the 3 interceptions was his first in his career; Caleb will make adjustment & bounce back. The team should be fired up going into the Utah game. Seasons not over. SC will be fine Coach Link a great Coach
Riley is a good OC, that's it! Way too Lazy to be a "Good Head Coach"! You guys will also want himgone at the end of the season! As An OU Fan, i wanted him gone after The LSU beatdown a few years ago....You Guys are DELUSIONAL 😅😅😅😅😅BOOMER SOONER😅😅😅😅

Too bad the Conference is breaking up, with so many good teams it seems to be coming into its own.
Smh. Dislike.
Expect 3 or 4 more losses unless we become a different team overnight.
HC LR better seriously consider sitting HTW CW against Utah or that sprained? broken? pinky will never heal and will screw up his throwing motion the rest of the season.
We are waist deep in kim chee.
USC will be fine it took Coach Carroll 3 yrs to get the quad 2 Championship Level. We were 4 & 8 just 3years ago. SC has new players & coaches still learning how 2 jel. Be Patient.Future is Bright
Not having Caleb next year I just don’t see how this team ends up being better
I don't think the future is bright as long as Riley doesn't change his boneheaded stubbornness to ignore all the tried and true conventional wisdom, such as building a strong defense that's championship-worthy and having a dedicated quality special teams coach. The guy is making in excess of $10 million a year, and he should prove he's worth it by producing fitting results pretty quickly.
FACTS. We need to lower our expectations this year we need to realize this is years 2 of The LR tenure
Lincoln Riley was just quoted as saying they can beat anyone in the country and are very close to being at an undefeated level. HE has set the expectation, however his coaching has been incompetent at times and his attitude of denial is bordering on arrogance. @@LVraider67
Then why aren't they recruiting at a high level? Only #18 for the 2024 class. There are no five stars in that class and don't have any they are getting. Doubt they flip anybody on NSD
1 loss and this new guy says we need to play spoiler? Clown take
Well when you add in the future losses to come that's all USC will be playing for. Sure won't be a national championship anytime soon like Riley told everyone would happen.
If Lincoln left, I’d take Coach O. Probably wouldn’t fly with USC’s all female administration.
