Agree. Acting wise, most cast in this series part 1( crown prince,king,2 villain Ministers, the stupid son of the minister, eldest prince and his mother, eunuch, 2 leads are all quite good. I like their acting better than nirvana in fire. Others like the teacher, the cousin,uncle-general, 5th prince are so-so.
I love this so much, it fills in many gaps. I had thought FL had forgotten about her brother. Also good to see CP's cousin is trying to help him and now he knows. So much drama for CP to deal with.

I FINALLY get to watch why the ending ended that way in the original. The producer said he could finally feel less sorry for the actor who played the main character's cousin because his acting was great towards the end.(at least that is what I think he said cos I am not native of Mandarin)

This is a 2nd series that just came out in Sept 2020. The one you are typing about is the 1st series with 60 episodes. This new series only has 12 episodes to it. And is officially called Royal Nirvana : Special. It's mostly cut out scenes from the 1st series. It explains further what exactly happened a lot all towards the later part of the 1st series and the novel. Until they get better English subs on these most of us are just guessing at what is being said/happening.
Even if it's kinda depressing( series with 60 episodes), I still would highly recommend it. I've never watched a series that had aroused in me too much emotions than this series, it left a lasting impression on me. I wouldn't put it in my top 5 but certainly in my top 10. Acting wise, it's in the top of my list.

I had a feeling that character was blood related to the Royal family and might be an illegitimate son of the Emperor in the first series. Either that or he came for revenge.
Besides of being thankful for the additional episodes,I am more confused than ever. The google translation does not solve my problem of not understanding a lot of background. Did uncle kwow the source of that bell ringing tune ,but did not warn the CP? Has Wenxi become the fifthprince's concubine? Or what's going on between him and her? Xu minister is just a puzzle for me,and I cannot see the importance of his role (controlling the CP is one,but others?)

I think I have watched the whole series about 5 times now. Never fails to enthrall me. The acting is all superb !!
King never trusted and loved his son. In history, crown prince had a sad life. This is one of my favorite drama. I cried a lot for this drama.
