So my girlfriend loved your cover so much she wanted to hear the genesis original. The look of disappointment on her face when she heard the Genesis version has been burned into my mind for all eternity.
As much as I love Savaged Regime's remixes, I like the original better. That is not to say this does not sound good, but the lack of drums and such were a little disappointing.
This makes me wish they did a better job with Golden Axe 3 than the game we actually got. It would have been a better game if the reused the sprites from 1 and 2, while using this music.
It also helps that there is a touch of reverb throughout all the samples used. It goes a really really long way. There was no way to make reverb sound this clean on original Genesis / Megadrive hardware
Nice re-arranged version. Sounds like a 32-64 bits version of the theme. But the original (arcade) Golden Axe music was made by Tohru Nakabayashi and You Takada (some sources credit T. Nakabayashi while others credit Y. Takada, but both worked on the music). Nankyoku, Decky, Imocky were responsible for the sound in the Mega Drive / Genesis port (they made re-arranged versions of the original music for the MD port, but didn't change the Takada and Nakabayashi compositions).
casi lloro de felicidad al volver a escuchar la mejor música de videojuegos de mi época, y más de uno de mis juegos favoritos, que buen arreglo, los recuerdos son inmemorables, mil gracias por hacernos tan felices 😄
I tend to think the YM2612 doesn't handle orchestral arrangements in comparison to other sound chips. Leave it to Savaged Regime to come along and prove me wrong. Stellar arrangement!
The best orchestral scores that I know of were Gauntlet IV, Master of Monsters, Devilish and Langrisser II. Sadly, (aside from Shining Force 2) all those games are super obscure so no one really knows about them but their scores are truly stellar.
Felwurst von der Moffel All those games mentioned were done by the same composer, Hitoshi Sakimoto (some also alongside Masaharu Iwata). That custom sound driver he used really made the Genesis / Mega Drive sing! :)
They were truly talented and proved that Genesis orchestral could definitely compete with Snes. Those soundtracks (and this remake) are spectacular. I wish he could have sold or distributed his driver to other developers. Same goes for other Japanese composers who were skilled with FM, like Technosoft or Treasure.
I was expecting this to be a cover of the full track from the arcade release, but besides the trimmed middle part of the 1st measures, this is still pretty good. Ya used the MD version as a base, so that ain't a bad thang
I've come across alot of your remixes over the years and only recently subscribed, terrible I know. 😂 I have to say, as a SEGA fanboy, your remixes are the absolute best out there, you've inspired a few of my own remixes but this gave me chills, never thought a remix could make the original inferior. 😱 Brilliant work keep it up.
F***ing epic!! Once again something which makes me want Sega to develop Mega Drive games again and do a Golden Axe IV using a huge 68 meg cart with a soundtrack handled by you and ChiptunedRaijin together. Could be more than epic!
indies still doing it.. from time to time, but i dunno if sega would do it again lol.. ua-cam.com/video/WTTSHB4biQo/v-deo.html but who knows.. anything can happen
One of the best covers I've heard in a while. I prefer the Arcade version (Mega Drive version's good too, but it's a little too slow and subdued for my taste), but this one's easily a close second.
ahh, you should've listened to the arcade version. There's one more part of this song that happens right at 0:53 in the arcade version that they removed from the Genesis version. Still kickass, though.
@DejaVoodooDoll maybe you're thinking of the CD version? That was basically ripped from the arcade and played on CD playback. Cart version always had that part missing
im completely unfamiliar with golden axe, i only know as a far as "its an old sega game and probably features an axe made of gold" but im very impressed with this track, it reminds me of old touhou music from the pc98 era! dramatic, foreboding and straight up epic, not to mention similar melodies and instruments. ive never heard the original version but according to that guys girlfriend i shouldnt go looking for it...
Indeed , but devilish has more omf and clear sound-chip to it , like Devil crush and Elemental master with Thunder force 4 , Imagine Savage using Devilish or elemental master style ,,,, oh my god , '' my ear virginity would bleed from orgasim '' However this golden axe remix sound way too accurate to Techmo warrior if ya know that gem . ; )
Lmao XD . Indeed our ears would like , RIP , Well i know a guy who rivals Savage and made abetter version of Yuzo work than the man himself if that's possible ,,, ua-cam.com/video/7ILEhJOTMj0/v-deo.html ; ) And well the same guy did this ear raping track as well : let your ear shivers from eragasim fella , ua-cam.com/video/0zVOUznSMug/v-deo.html , LMAO ; D
I have a question, if the MD/Gen has these 10 channels, and all are in use, what produces the sound effects in a game? I never notice sound cutting out when playing a game. I'm really curious about speech. If channel 6 is being used for the drum track, where are the voices coming from?
Majority of games just cut out the least important channels, have it play its sound effect really quickly, and then have it switch back to music. PCM channel switches between drums and voices on the fly too.
I'd love to see In the Bar or Go Straight rearranged. Not that they really need to be rearranged as they already sound like they were rearranged like this, but...
I think basically everything from sound driver to modulator settings on every channel have to be absolutely perfect for it to be this good. Which, given everything was done directly in assembly back then, was absolutely unthinkable. Thank goodness we have tools to show the innate capabilities of this hardware.
@@blara2401 Ok so now I understand how it finally works after listening to a few tracks here : we now have have trackers like Deflemask that can take advantage of the OG hardware like previous composers couldn't ever have done. Interesting. So, while I tremendously enjoy the musics here, my vote still goes for Tim Follin's Time Trax soundtrack on Megadrive as being the most proficient tune ever released on Megadrive, at the time !
Wow! So good use of this Yamaha chipset. Only Japanese and some European could use it right. Impossible the you're North american... Where are you from bro?
Why can't video game music sound this epic nowadays? It's clear what the original was going for.
I'm a simple man. I see a new Savaged Regime track, I blast process my way over to the like button.
原曲の雰囲気を 壊さずアレンジされてて とても 良い!
that aggro timpani line... and the way it gets even more slightly aggro in the second loop 👑
yo i never noticed this i was like "what do you mean?" then i noticed it, love these touches savaged regime puts in. 👍

let's just say Golden Axe 1 could really use this kind of improvement.
it's a launch title and it FEELS like it if you're used to 1994+ gen games.
@@ricsim78 I'd love to hear it with Sega CD PCM drums.
@@madhatter8508 Someone make a hack of the Sega Genesis Classics compilation on Sega CD
Your mastery of the YM2612 never ceases to impress me! Golden Axe is one of my all time favourite games too!

"Gaaaahh! Errraaaahhh! -plonk-" A classic for sure. Nice work!
This is how the music sounded to me as a kid and young teen so full of life and crisp.
This blasts my processing
“Golden Axe” meets Hitoshi Sakimoto's custom “Terpsichorean” sound driver.
This sounds so good! :D
OMG
Perfect for a Golden Axe IV!!!

"Wow, Savaged Regime did a good job of adding more overall atmosphere to this part!" -repeat every 40-55 seconds. You slayed the originals!!
Good'n'old Savaged Regime never cease to amaze. This is waaaay better than original Genesis or arcade.

not only for the Genesis / Mega Drive he has using the same sound driver on the NEC pc 88 and 98

Greater than the great~
If there's a remake of the first Golden Axe one day I want this music to be inside.
Par excellence
Damn so nostalgic
amazing!
Very impressive!!! I really like Golden Axe so much. It seems an arcade music.
Amazing... Pure nostalgia!!!!!! Thanks!
This new arrangement makes it sound like Zuntata's Rastan soundtrack. Amazing job!

Amazing as usual, man! I have a request, if you do them: The title theme of Phantasy Star IV, "The end of the Millennium".
Reminds me of Gauntlet IV, which also had a fantastic soundtrack. This might be better, though?
Man this is hard!
Conan the barbarian vibes

About how Battlefield would have sounded if it was in Golden Axe II or III

Much more skilled than Sega's own composers during the original release. Truly impressive. This is the way the Gen was meant to sound.
Awesome work.
Better than the original, for sure.
just awesome :D

damn nice job on this btw ;)
It seams to be an FM intrument, which is amazing...

So let me get this straight, this is created with the OG Genesis/MD hardware, nothing else?
Yes though he's using 2 extra channels that are normally reserved for sound effects.
Ok where can I commission you for work.
Hey dude, what software are you using to make these and do you create any VGM files? It would be awesome to play these on a Mega Drive.

This is basically if Hitoshi Sakimoto arranged the tracks for the SEGA Genesis version of the game.
if only that megadrive image had the hi def on it
It is good, some of the drums needed to be louder at start and need the odd thump sound IMO as it lacked power at the start but finished well.
