    Call To Prayer
Adhan is the first call to prayer. The Adhan is uttered in a loud, albeit sweet melodious voice to announce to the faithful that it is time for the Obligatory Prayer and to invite them to offer the prayers. Those who perform Adhan are known as Muedhin.
The honor of being the first Muedhin goes to Bilal (ra), a black freed slave who converted to Islam. Bilal (ra) had a very sweet, resonant and musical voice. He was appointed as Muedhin by the Prophet (saw).
The appointment of a black slave as the first person to call Muslims for prayers is a powerful testimony that in Islam all human beings are treated as equals. Rich or poor, black or white - all are equal in the eyes of Allah. It is the piety of each individual that makes the difference.
About the origins of “Adhan” and how it came about, several ideas were presented to the Prophet (saw) to announce the time for prayer for Muslims. Some suggested that like the Jews, Muslims should blow a horn to announce the time for the Salah. Others proposed, the Muslims might ring bells as the Christians do in their churches. A few proposed that the Muslims, like the fire-worshippers, kindle a fire to call people to pray. The Prophet(saw) was not happy with any of these ideas. Then the companion of the Prophet (saw) Abdullah ibn Zaid (ra) told the Prophet (saw) of the beautiful dream and words that came to him in his dream. The Prophet (saw) accepted the recitation and the words and asked Abdullah (ra) to teach the words of the “Adhan” to Bilal (ra).
The reciter of "Adhan" in this video is Sheikh Abdullah Al Zaili.
