  • For forty years Caltrain severed the San Francisco peninsula with their iconic F40s and Gallery Cars. For a long time, they have been calling the Bay Area home and taking passengers to work, home and play. But as the years go by, Caltrain had plans to go electric in the fall of 2024. As the anticipated date came closer and closer, railfans came to the Bay Area to catch the F40s before their retirement. And on Friday, September 20th, 2024 marked an end of the Caltrain F40s and Gallery cars. And are to be replaced by the new STADLER KISS EMU sets. They will carry on the legacy and sever of the peninsula corridor for many years to come. All though the F40s are retired for good, they will remain as an icon to Caltrain, the commuter rail transit agency of the San Francisco peninsula.
