Which Fougere Fragrance Should I Wear In The Humid Heat? | Your Fragrance Question Answered
Which Fougere Fragrance would be appropriate to wear in a Hot-Humid Tropical Climate? That is the question I had received and my answer is in today's video:
    ⭕️ Here's the question I received:
Hi Mr. Perfume Guy. Need your opinion about which one to choose for a signature fougere fragrance. I will wear it daily for work (daytime mostly). Right now I'm in between Penhaligon Sartorial, Fougere Royale edp, Nishane B612 & MFK Masculine Pluriel. I live in tropical country (Malaysia) so its quite warm & humid during day time. Thank you in advance for your response.
I'm open for any other suggestions from you. Also considering HDP Casanova.
What kind of Fougere would you wear if you lived in Hot Humid Tropical Climate? Please add a comment below so that I can find out.
    His Choices:
PENHALIGON'S SARTORIAL: Lavender, Oakmoss, Honey, Beeswax, Woods, Metallic Notes, Amber, Tonka, Myrrh
HOUBIGANT FOUGERE ROYALE EDP: Lavender, Geranium, Oakmoss, Green Notes, Clary Sage, Carnation, Chamomile
NISHANE B612: Cypress, Lavender, Cashmeran, Musk, Oakmoss, Tonka, Sandalwood, Cedar, Geranium, Patchouli
MAISON FRANCIS KURKDJIAN MASCULIN PLURIEL: Lavender, Vetiver, Patchouli, Cedar, Woods, Leather
HISTOIRES DE PARFUMS CASANOVA: Lavender, Vanilla, Almonds, Amber, Licorice, Star Anise, Cedar, Grapefruit
    My Suggestions:
AMOUAGE BRACKEN MAN: Cloves, Patchouli, Geranium, Cypress, Lavender, Nutmeg, Cedar, Musk, Lemon, Sandalwood
➡️ Buy Bracken Man: tidd.ly/3YYhj69 15% off code THEPERFUMEGUY
GUERLAIN LE FRENCHY: Vetiver, Bergamot, Petitgrain, Lemon Verbena, Citron, Lemons, Lavender, Sage, Ambergris, Tonka
ROGUE PERFUMERY BON MONSIEUR: Geranium, Lavender, Fir, Oakmoss, Cedar, Bergamot, Sandalwood, LOTV, Carnation
CARTIER PASHA EDT: Lavender, Oakmoss, Coriander, Sandalwood, Mint, Caraway, Anise, Rosewood, Mandarin, Patchouli
TOM FORD BEAU DE JOUR: Lavender x 2, Rosemary, Patchouli, Oakmoss, Mint, Basil, Geranium, Amber

I think many of the new men’s fragrances are classified as fougere’s you went for more of the “classic” style. I would pick Chanel Platinum Egoiste with that mental cold feel in the heat works well. Also the new Viking Cologne would fit this list well. • @JT-rx1eo
      @JT-rx1eo 3 роки тому +1

@@apollo5756 The way I've reconciled the whole "barbershopy" vs. fougere thing, which is a bit of a nebulous, ill-defined and subjective undertaking anyway, is to think of Venn diagrams. Those overlapping circles that show set relationships. Most fragrances that get annointed as "barbershop" are fougeres, but not all. Maybe 80 or 90%. And of course fougeres, by definition, pretty much follow the structure of its eponymous fragrance, the original 1882 Houbigant Fougere Royale. The note triad of lavender, coumarin and oakmoss figure in as the fougere backbone. "The smell of a fern" implies green to me. I suppose coumarin, with its "freshly mown hey" accord, did that for Fougere Royale, but I would think any notes providing a "green" accord would suffice. Lavender I think is the "indespensible note" in a fougere if there is one. If someone calls a frag a fougere and it doesn't have lavender I tell them the burden of justifying the label is on them. I read that a perfumer explained the difference between a fougere and a chypre as immediately being able to classify each based on the difference between the lavender-coumarin and bergamont-oakmoss accords. I guess the "clean, cool and masculine" association and vibe of lavender and green made the gentleman's barbershop association inevitable. But what about the other 10% to 20% of "barbershop" scents that aren't fougeres? Is classic Old Spice a "barbershop" frag? Pinaud Clubman? I would say so. Any aftershave qualifies in my book. Old Spice is not a fougere - it's a Spicy Oriental (the world's first for men!) Any scent, regardless of classification, can be considered a "barbershop" if it conjures an association.

Fougere for Women? EEK. Hmm. I would have to research. I know there are a ton of Chypre's for women but not Fougeres. I know though there are unisex Fougere's out there!! :)

IN a hot humid climate all the fougere's you recommended would be too for me much unless you are in a cold air conditioned building all day. I would only wear heavily citrus or tea based frags and I probably would not use niche except at night, in air conditioning, and for formal events. Niche can be cloying in the heat. I also feel to much heat and humidity "ruin" the best parts of a niche frag so why waste the money.

As someone new to creating perfumes I don't get fougere or chypre types. It appears to me that it's just some descriptive title given to any scent having the list of 4 materials. Nothing more. You list 8 or 10 materials you smell her yet they likely have 5 or more you're not smelling. So if I create a perfume with 20 materials which is certainly not a large #, it might be called a Fougere just because in the list of materials, I happen to have used the basic fougere materials? We never seem to get definitions that aren't confusing.
