Very informative and thanks. I have 8 1/2 inch pneumatic air tube tires abd after a few months of every day use it caught a flat. I have now disassembled the back tire and ordered to 8 1/2 inner tubes from Amazon so hopefully all goes well and thy dint have holes in them. Definitely like a softer ride so won't be going solid tire route, just not as much smoothness or control.
I just got my electric scooter yesterday, it has solid tires and you're so right, it feels kinda scary to ride and control.

Coming from an old Glion Dolly scooter, I am very accustomed to the solid tire feel and handling. And I'm sure I'll miss that confidence of rolling over anything and not worrying about a flat.
That said, I am open to the idea of putting a solid tire on the rear wheel as it has good suspension and I understand that's where most flats occur.
While keeping air filled up front for traction and comfort.
I was originally looking at the Zero 8, Fluid Freeride Horizon and Turbowheel Swift for that configuration. But ended up going with the Zero nine because they all seem to be sold out everywhere.
Also, thanks to your video, I know not to get the tire from Amazon.
Luckily the newer Zero 9 has the splitting rear rim. That and the motor disconnect make flat repairs pretty straightforward. Thanks and good luck with the scooter.

I have a Zero9 and I recently got a flat in the rear. I ordered the solid honeycomb tires from REVRides and swapped them both out. The Zero scooters have split rims which makes the swap super easy. The ride quality has diminished and I do feel more bumps and what not. But I’ll take that because my commute is short and the area I have to go through is full of tire hazards so the trade off is good for me
Hi, I know this is 1 year old but I have a question for you. I just received my 1st electric scooter and it has solid tires. I took it out, today, for the first time and I was absolutely SHOCKED at how horrendously bumpy the ride was. I rode on many different surfaces and it was constantly rattling and I felt violentl shacking, through my whole body . It was simply horrible. I ended up having to ride in the road a lot because even trying to go over a smooth ramp the scooter would shake and it feels horrible. Do you really find it pleasurable to ride? And do you know if it’s possible to remove the tyres and fit air filled 1s? If yes, do you know how much smoother it would make the ride? Also, do you think those shock absorber springs would help? I honestly think my scooter is unridable due to the violent ratting through my whole body and feels like scooter is about to fall apart. It’s a real shame because I did find a tiny smooth patch of pavement, I let it rip and it felt bloody great. I bought a cheap £270 scooter because I don’t need it much but due to how horrible it is, I’m considering spending up to £1000 on a new 1.I don’t mind if it looks shit and I don’t need to go over 25kph but it needs to be at least fun and smooth to ride.

On my first day riding my zero 9 the back tire got a flat but no indication of anything going in it

It's a shame you can't compare the rear solid tyre, with either a honeycomb or air inflated one.
Jim, your front wheel seems to spin forever. Mine comes to a halt after a few seconds - should I loosen the bolts a little?
@JellyMonster1, I have my bolts very tight, I'll look to see but I don't think the Zero 8 bearings are serviceable.

Thank you so much. I'm shopping for my first scooter and wondered about the differences. Is there a safety lining you can install between the tube and tire to help prevent punctures? They're available for bicycles but not sure about air-filled scooter tires.
@Mike Malloy, I cut down a Mr. Tuffy Liner and tried it for just this purpose. The liner actually shifted and created a flat! This issue is you need the liner to really fit the tire and scooter tires roll a bit more when cornering. They really need to come out with some quality tires, until that happens I think it's either repair flats or go with solid tires. Thanks!
I have had my scooter for 3 months and have had 3 flats.... on paved BIKE TRAILS! The last time, I had to walk 13 kms home. I will sell my scooter before I take that chance again. Solid tires, for me, are TOTALLY worth the extra few vibrations!
I understand where you are coming from, I just got a new dual solid tire scooter to review. I find that my flats have usually come on the connecting roads and sometimes I get flats from goatheads or thorns on the bike paths. The reality is almost all scooter tires, tubed and tubeless, suck from a durability and flat resistance standpoint. You don't get decent Kevlar flat resistance layers until 16" tires. Do you possibly have a tutorial for adding slime to the front tire, and how much to add? This video is great, think I'm going to grab a solid tire just to have one too!
I have had limited luck with slime, by limited I should really so nearly no luck. I can't say for sure that it really helps. I have heard good things about Armor-Dillos but it's expensive sealant.

Ordered a honeycomb from falconpev to put on the rear of my Z9... keeping the air on the front... wonder how she’s going to feel... had two flats in a short period of time but always the rear... suffers the most obviously... but getting a flat in the middle of your ride sucks so hope this will sort that out and keeping the front as an air will hopefully continue to give me a cushioned and safe feel in bends and such...

@Electron Surfer... fitted solid honeycomb rear tyre and just had a ride.... It’s definitely a different feel than air tires but just a matter of getting used to I feel... feel more vibration with increased speed and cornering felt a bit funny but after a while it was fine... probably had to wear tyre in but definitely felt better after couple of k’s and bends... all and all pretty happy with knowing flats are history.
Still air at the front which I’ll keep just because front suspension on the Zero 9 is not all that...🛴⚡️🌱

Electron Surfer Well a little update... when riding to work this morning as I was doing 40 kmph solid tyre came out of the hub... quite shocking and a bit alarming when travelling at that speed.... so I will be emailing Falconpev Singapore to tell them about my adventure.... Back to air it is for me.... disappointed to say the least.... 😒

I have a scooter with 10" tires and both rear and front suspension. I'm thinking on changing the rear tire to a solid and leaving the front tire air-filled. Would it really affect performance overall?
Typically you get more tire spin and a little less cornering traction, to me it is worth it usually.
A reviewer should always mentioned if a scooter have splitt-able tyre-rims, or not. The Zero 8/9/10 models have it, for example. It's still gonna be a hassle to change tubes/tyres for customers without skills and tools - but at least it's gonna be a much smaller hassle. And bicycle-stores with workshops are more likely to help you out. Especially if you already have the spare-tube with you.
The 3 bolts on the front wheel don't come off. They are super tight and I could see there was glue applied. Do you have any advice on how to loosen them?
I have found a little heat with a small torch right on the bolt can help, that followed by gentle tapping of your allen wrench!
Good test, wish an air tire was possible in the rear, but with this motor it doesn't look like it. I have 230 miles on mine, I ride it 11 miles home from work sometimes and it's doable, but not something I would do every day. I think a zero 10 would be much better for that long a commute. For my 4 mile commute with the train on between it's great.
@Dave K, I agree. I will post a video tomorrow showing the rear wheel replacement attempt, I was bummed that you can't get an air tire on the back of the Zero 8.

Hi Jim thanks for this video. I bought the Zero 9 and I´m waiting for it to come in a few weeks.
I´m afraid I´ll get a flat tire pretty quickly (streets in Mexico are insane) so I want to buy the solid tire you show in this video. Could you please post the Amazon link to it so that I don´t buy an incorrect one that doesn´t fit my Zero 9? (there are a bunch of options there)

@Lalo Balandrano, Unfortunately I think you have to buy the tire from Falcon PEV, RevRides, or maybe ewheels for the Dart? I tried an amazon tire and it came right off on another video.
You can, in theory, change both to solid. That rear tire is a bear to take off since the rim doesn't split. Some soap or using some physics (heat up tire and cool motor/hub, or vice versa) should work but its not going to be much fun.
I suggest you buy some good quality tube sealant or another option I just though of is a solid tube, I'm not sure if you can find one in that size.

@@lalobalandrano3335 I've really only used Slime so far and it works ok in my experience. You remove the valve stem, inject the sealant, put the valve stem back in, and pump it up.
The higher end sealants are not easily available on Amazon or anything, i'll keep looking for good options. Let me know if you find something that works well. Thanks!
Okay, a couple things. First of all you need an 8in solid honeycomb tire for an 8 and 1/2 inch wheel. I have the turbo wheel Dart with 529 miles on it and I've had four flats on the rear, so I have ordered and received the honeycomb solid tire for the rear. It is 8 in even though the wheel is 8 and 1/2, and Mitch at ewheels has sent me extensive instructions on how to stretch this tire on to the motor hub. Once I get it on, I will let you know how it goes. I do believe there's going to be a reduction in ride quality, but I think I will get used to it. I think it's astonishing that nobody can come up with a tube that doesn't go flat so easily, or come up with a tubeless pneumatic tire like every car on Earth. I'm not heavy and I don't ride aggressively. I'm sure it's going to be wicked hard to get this tire on my rim, even though I have a split motor hub. as for adhesion, I think you have to ride a little longer and really let that tire warm up to be fair to it.

How about changing solid to pneumatic tires, is that possible ?I have solid tire on my hiboy , it’s not a good ride when the terrain is bumpy , can I change both tires to pneumatic?
Typically this is not possible. Most solid tires are much wider, like the Zero 8, Emove Touring, and others. Finding a tire and tube that will stay on that rim is very difficult. The Hiboy and Segway have more narrow tires so it is possible. I'd ask Hiboy and I'd try the non-motorized rim first to make sure there are no issues. The biggest challenge will be putting a solid tire back on if the air one doesn't work, those solid tire changes are terrible. Air tires on the S2 would have made a huge improvement.
Bro I had my zero 9 come in around a week ago. After 1 day I got a front tire flat. Revrides was nice enough to send me a new tube. Then after 3 days of riding again another flat on the front. I got sick and tired of this and just ordered myself a honeycomb tire for my front wheel. Hope it's not bad as the some streets in NY are bumpy.
The ride difference with the solid tire is significant, some people have riding routes that just tend to have debris and get flats. Did you ever try any tube sealants?

@@ivanrivera2694 I have only used Slime and it works pretty well. It can lead to a big mess in the tire if you have a major tube blowout. It looks like RevRides recommends Tirecare Sealant, I haven't used it but I think its worth a shot.

Unfortunately I don't think that is possible, the rear hub is wider than the front and I don't know of any tires currently made that would seat onto the rim.

The hacksaw is your friend with the solid tire, just be careful to not hit your rim.
@@ElectronSurfer ok. These solid tires make thinks very uncomfortable to say the least. The honeycomb are better than the ones that come with the Scooter. I find myself putting my back foot on the mudguard which helps and is very durable but to hold that position for long time just so I don't scare everyone within ear distance 😭🤣😂😅
Solid tires work better with really great suspension, unfortantly many scooters dont even have basic suspension.
U do lose abit of traction with solid tires n they arent great for wet, snowy or dirt conditions.
Their fine daily commute just becareful slamming the breaks you will slide.
Wider solid tires would fix most of the issue but nobody really makes fat or wide solid tires for escooters
Good points all around thanks! Changing scooter flats is a huge pain and if the suspension was up to it, solid tires would be the way to go. Hopefully they get some really good solid tires in the near future.

Personal electric transport have them back in stock now for zero 9 i was waiting weeks for them to come back in stock if your from the uk its next day delivery I have one for my zero 9 scooter it has a slight change in ride but does not affect the speed was worth waiting for it to come back in stock fits nice and Firmly if it’s a rear split hub
I don’t know how it fits on zero 9 front as I only got one and as I don’t get punchers on the front but I can imagine it fits as well as it does on the rear
If you have a scooter with swing arms and a really good suspension, you can probably get away with it with minor differences in ride quality.
I agree to a point, the one thing that will transmit even with suspension is road buzz, larger bumps would be no problem. So depending on the roads where you ride, you are right on! Thanks for commenting!
hi I have my dueltron mini less than a week and the back wheel has a puncture! I inspected the wheel and it doesn't look like it is punctured! it is possible the motor over heated and melted the tube????
I think its very unlikely that a motor could reach tube melting temperature before having another issues and shutting off, the motors get quite warm but not that warm. I'd inflate fully and spray with soapy water to see if you have a puncture, also spray the valve stem, I had one tube that was leaking there, they make a small valve stem tool to tighten it up. People have had good luck with automotive cans of fix-a-flat. Its also possible that whatever caused your flat was very small and it fell out already, it would be hard to see that.
@@ElectronSurfer ill take your advice but when I brought the scooter into my house there was the distinct of burnt rubber and when I touched the rim its was roasting hot!
I can't believe it iv only had the scooter 6 days and have only clocked 80 kms on it I just feel bad right now!!!!
@@conorhulgraine Well you didn't say the burning rubber part first! I would check that you are not having any brake drum drag, if the brake is too tight and rubbing all the time it could heat up the rim. If there is no drag at a stop and the motor is getting that hot, I recommend you call the company you bought it from and return it. These motors get hot but they really shouldn't be more than 140 degrees from what I've seen, that is not enough to create a burning smell and suggests a problem.

Thanks Jim you can really see the extra shakiness from the solid tire. I think an air tire is the way to go despite the risk of a flat. I've tried slime but unfortunately it didn't work for me even with a small pinch flat. It just made a mess. You might want to try another sealant. I've heard good things about Armor-dillo but I haven't used it myself because it's not available locally and postage to Australia costs as much as the product itself.
